Wiveliscombe & District Canine Society Open Show – 11th January 2025

Retriever (Labrador)

I would like to thank Wiveliscombe & District Canine Society for the invitation to judge Labradors at their open show and for the exhibitors for graciously accepting placements. A good entry, but unfortunately a high level of absentees today.

Puppy (5, 4 abs)

1st – Hobans Meadowleigh Time to Dream BPIB

6 month old black bitch. A happy girl, very much enjoying her time in the ring. Good coat for her age, with a well-covered tail which she used to her benefit. Although initially unsettled, moved accurately and with drive when she settled into her stride. Nicely compact, rounded feet and nice bone. Good angulation fore and aft and good length of neck. Nice head with a gentle expression.

Junior (3, 1 abs)

1st – Evans Trendlewood Long Time Comin at Pudleigh JW

15 month old yellow dog. A strongly built, muscular young dog. Presents a complete picture in both profile and on the move, with correct angulation and a level topline. A sound mover who covers the ground well. He has a good coat and well-covered tail, which he used to his advantage. Masculine yet kind head with well set ears. Would benefit from tighter feet.

2nd – Braddons Trendlewood It Takes Two

14 month old bitch with a rich chocolate coat. Of a much smaller build than 1. Her coat was on the turn on the day, but enough present to display correctly covered otter tail. She was well muscled all over with good rear angulation and lovely feet. Held her topline in profile and on the move with well sprung ribs to complete the picture. I would prefer a darker eye colour to soften expression.

Graduate (4, 3 abs)

1st – Wallaces Dreammake For Tiaja JW (IMP DNK) RBOB

Lovely 2 year old yellow bitch. Presented a well balanced picture – everything is in proportion. Moved out at one with her handler with accurate foot placement and adequate ground coverage. Good angulation fore and aft which was complimented by a good length of neck and level topline. In decent coat. A lovely head with a gentle expression – good eye colour and pigmentation.

Open Dog (4, 3 abs)

1st – Evans Chyanhal Pentewan at Pudleigh

A very strong, masculine 4 year old black dog who was making his handler work today. Correct coat with well covered tail. Better rear angulation than fore and moved ok when settled. Neat feet and plenty of bone with well sprung ribs. I felt he lacked length of muzzle which detracted from his head and expression.

Open Bitch (4, 2 abs)

1st Hobans Meadowleigh Turn Back Time BOB

An eye-catching 4 year old chocolate bitch. Presented in solid, well muscled condition. Well sprung ribs with clean, well boned legs and tidy feet. Moved out well with drive and accurate footfall, abled by her correct angulation front and rear. Strong clean neck leading to a level topline and nice tail set. In decent coat with a well wrapped tail that never stopped. Broad head with well set ears and eye colour complimentary to her coat. Her overall balance was pleasing and filled the eye.

2nd – Braddons Trendlewood Tiger Lily JW

Pretty 3 year old yellow bitch. Of a smaller stamp than 1, she presented a balanced picture in profile. A beautiful head and expression with good eye colour and pigment – her expression exemplified kindness and intelligence. Good spring of rib and nice short coupling. She was dropping her coat on the day. Nice rear angulation enabled her to move with drive, but she unfortunately did not hold her topline on the move.
