South West Welsh Corgi Club Open Show (Pembroke)

18/2/2025

I’d like to thank the South West Welsh Corgi Club for their invitation to judge at their breed open show and to the exhibitors for giving me such a lovely entry. It was such a pleasure to fulfil my first judging appointment at the show which was the first dog show I ever attended.

Special Awards Classes.

Junior D/B 4/4

1st. Millie The Minx. 12 mth old Tri Bitch. This young bitch, although not over-sized gave a very nice overall outline. Lovely feminine head with correct proportions and ear set. Nice dark eye and expressive expression. Correct scissor bite. Closely fitting elbows, sufficient bone leading to good shaped feet. Good topline and rear angulation. She held her topline on the move. She moved freely round the ring with plenty of impulsion from behind.

2nd Ellesar Royal Surprise. 13 mth old Tri Dog. Attractive young masculine dog that is developing well. A masculine head with good stop. Not quite as good head proportions as the 1st placed. A good front with well let down chest. Very good front angulation and plenty of bone. Good feet. Good length with well sprung rib and a short loin. He moved well, holding his top line. Unfortunately, today he was a little unsettled on the table and on the move so did not show himself off to his best.

Graduate D/B 1/3

1st. Brynmay Star Explosion. 3 yr old R/W Bitch. Very pretty, feminine girl. Nice foxy head with good 3 to 5 proportions. Good sized, slightly rounded ears, set well on a good width of skull. Nice front with sufficient bone. Good spring of rib. Moved positively round the ring. Would prefer a firmer top line.

Open D/B. 7/8

1st Haresfoot Fates Align (nbt). 2 yr old Red and White Dog. This boy was on form today and demanded my attention, on the table and on the move. Good sized masculine dog, in good coat and beautifully presented. Masculine head with good ear set and alert expression. Slightly long tapering nose. Good shaped, dark eyes. Good front with tight elbows, plenty of bone and tight feet. Nice overall length with good spring of rib and very good rear angulation. Moved with steady purpose. Was straight going away and towards. Could give even more propulsion.

2nd Babaneira Kensington At Fablecroft. 2 yr old R/W Dog. Another very masculine dog. Well up to size, but with good proportions and balance throughout. Broad head, well set ears, good stop and muzzle. Moderate neck. Deep functional chest and good angulation front and rear. Moved with plenty of propulsion. Held topline throughout. Presented in top condition. The best muscled dog of the day.
