East Anglian Gundog Society 12th October 2025

Many thanks to the committee for the kind invitation and exhibitors for their dogs at the 40th Anniversary Year Open show. Also, special mention as I stood in for fellow judge Fran Glendinning who was unable to fulfil her Irish Setter & Italian Spinone appointment due to illness.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers

Junior (1):

1st – Mahon-Hunns, Middleton & Haskin- SUSQUDILLA YANKEE SHADOW (IMP USA) – 8.5month old male with masculine head, correct eye and colour, good width of skull with well-placed ears. Strong neck. Shoulders well laid back. Straight forelegs. Medium body developing well for his age. Good turn of stifle with decent muscle tone throughout. Coat of good texture & good quality. Moving with a good smooth free action. BP & BOB.

Limit (1):

1st – Mellersh-Tett – OAKMARSH LAND OF PROMISE OF ROGUEHART – 22mth old bitch, enough head but would prefer a deeper muzzle, correct eye colouring and alert expression. Decent strong neck. Well made in forehand. Good depth of body. Strong muscled quarters. Good oily texture to coat. Moving freely.

Curly Coated Retrievers

Junior (5,1abs):

1st Sutton’s – FOXRIEVER IMMORTAL SPIRIT – 15mth old masculine dog who presented a clean outline. Straight forelegs and good round feet. Lovely wedge-shaped head with good ear set, dark oval eye. Good neck length and slightly arched into a well-placed shoulder. Decent depth of chest and well spring ribs set well back. Moderate rear angulation firm in topline. Moving with good extension a lot to like about this young dog. Pushed his sire hard but had to settle for RBOB.

2nd Pavitts & Whitehead’s - FOXRIEVER FIRE CRACKER (ai) – 11mth dog who lost out to 1st on maturity, but has time on his side. Decent in head correct shape good ear set correct eye colour. Strong neck would prefer a little more return of upper arm. Good depth of chest. Body developing nicely and ribs beginning to spring. Well let down quarters. Moving soundly with drive from the rear. BP

Post Graduate (3):

1st Sutton’s – FOXRIEVER IMMORTAL SPIRIT

2nd Sutton’s FOXRIEVER FIRE Fly (ai) – 11mth old liver dog upto size, his head for me was too overdone and would prefer a darker eye to soften his expression. Good strong neck of correct proportions. Well placed shoulder and legs well under his body. Good spring of ribs well set back. Decent bone and feet. Good topline. Correct coat. Moving soundly

Open (1):

1st Solomon’s SH CH FOXREIVER MYSTIC MARVEL AT ELKSAR – 5yr old upstanding dog who is so very balanced in outline. Masculine in head with good width and rounded skull. Correct eye shape and colour providing a kind alert expression. Decent well made forehand with correct lay back of shoulder. Super bone & substance throughout. Round feet. Deep in chest with lovely spring of rib. Short in couplings. Decent turn of stifle well-muscled. Excellent coat & quality. Moving with great power. Interesting to see he was the sire to many of the exhibits today. BOB

Irish Setters

Junior (2,1):

1st Box’s FERNSTART HEART’S DESIRE – 14mth old bitch pretty in head and correct eye colour and shape. Enough neck length but would prefer more lay back of shoulder. Straight forelegs with good bone. Ribs beginning to spring and set well back. Decent rear quarters. Topline firm. Moving freely fore and aft. Presented in nice coat. RBOB

Post Graduate (5,2):

1st – Box’s BARDONHILL ITS NOW OR NEVER FOR FERNSTART – dog 2yrs old masculine headpiece with correct lean head proportions lovely eye colour and expression. Correct ear set. Clean in neck of good length. Correctly placed shoulder and straight frontlegs and neat elbows. Good bone. Well developed in body, with ribs well back. Firm straight topline and good tailset. Stifles well bent. Turned out in nice coat. Movement was erratic at times but once he got his act together, he moved soundly.

2nd Adam’s – PADUAN READY FOR LOVE AT DANBRYELI – 2yr old bitch sweet headed bitch correct eye shape and colour, good reach of neck and enough forehand. Straight legs good bone. Good depth of chest. Body well developed. Decent rear quarters. Carrying a little excessive weight today which affected movement & topline

3rd White’s PADUAN FEEL THE LOVE

Open (5,2):

1st Bott, Allen & Morgan’s SH CH QUENSHA CRIMES OF PASSION – 4yr old bitch who stacked presents that racy balanced outline full of quality. Such a feminine classic head, lean nothing overdone, correct muzzle depth, lovely eye shape and colour providing that kind intelligent expression. Superb front makeup, with lovely depth of chest, stood on correct bone and neat feet. Great spring of ribs, with ribs well back short in loin into well let down quarters with good bend of stifle. Good muscle tone. Presented in tip top condition. Her movement is where she excels. Free flowing with super front extensions and drive from the rear. Handled well. BOB. Delighted to hear she went BIS a worthy win and a worthy SH CH.

2nd Adams – HARREDS SOPHIE AT DANBRYELI – 7yr old bitch plainer in head than 1st, but she has a kind eye & expression. Good neck length and enough lay back of shoulder. Good bone and feet. Good depth of brisket. Ribs well sprung, just a tad overweight. Short couplings and well-made quarters. Moving soundly fore and aft.

Italian Spinone

Post Graduate (1):

1st Banks - DALEBOURNE KORE – 3yr old bitch of good size presented an overall square shape as the standard requires. Pretty head of correct proportions, with good divergent planes, kind eye and expression. Short well-muscled neck into a well-made front angulation. Good oval bone. Deep brisket and body well developed. Hindquarters muscular with enough bend of stifle. Presented in nice coat. Moving soundly around the ring. RBOB

Open (2,1):

1st James’s - SH CH INOSTRICANI FIANNA ShCEx – 6yr old bitch of lovely breed type, good size & proportions one who I have awarded well as a puppy. She has developed into a lovely young lady. Super head with great divergent head planes. Eyes of correct shape and colour providing that kind human like expression. Short strong neck, into a well-placed shoulder. Correct oval bone and large round feet. Neat fitting elbows. Good spring of ribs. Decent loin, good bend of stifle with well let down hocks. Presented in nice coat and moving freely. BOB.

Maureen Osbourne Memorial Reserve Best of Breed Stakes

A lovely class of exhibits.

1st Wilson’s IR SH CH RAVENSETT GIOVANNI – 4yr old male of nice breed type. Well-proportioned head lovely expression good reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Super well-developed body, lovely ribbing. Well made throughout. Presented in super coat & condition. Moving effortlessly around the ring to win him the class. (English Setter)

2nd McQuade’s GEMSWIN RIVER OF DREAMS – 4yr old bitch of correct size, nice pretty head, soft expression. Clean in neck and shoulder. Good depth of chest. Neat feet. Well developed in body. Decent rear angulation. Firm in topline and correct tailset. Moving with good rear drive. Presented well. (FCR)

1st Bott, Allen & Morgan’s SH CH QUENSHA CRIMES OF PASSION (Irish Setter)

2nd Marris-Bray’s- PLAIGLEN BIKER BABE TO HELENWOOD JW – black 21mth old quality bitch of nice size. Prettiest of heads, super soft kind expression with work below the eyes. Correct ear set. Lovely neck and shoulder. Superb bone and substance throughout. Great spring of ribs short loin and well-rounded quarters. Level topline. Great muscle. Moving true with the lovely Cocker bustle.
