Newark & District Canine Society

Breed: Gundog Group

Newark and District Canine Society Open Show 23rd February 2024

On a cold winters day, there was such a warm atmosphere at this well run show.  Many thanks to all those involved in ensuring the show ran smoothly with a special thank you to the wonderful stewards in the gundog ring.  Thank you to my fellow judges for sending many quality gundogs through to the group and puppy group leading to the age old dilemma of only 4 placings.

GSP J(3,1) 1st Cooke and Hammond’s Seasham Show me the Way 13mth dog – liked his outline with balanced angulation, bone and presence.  A nice head shape, clean in the neck, flowing through to his shoulders.  His chest will continue to drop as plenty of time on his side. Ribs well back, short and muscular in the loin.  On the move he has good rear drive and front reach, although a little untidy in his front movement which will tighten as he matures. BOB  2nd Beresford’s Tuptonsett Master Dexter 17th dog – he was tidier on the move than 1st but just not the drive and reach.  Liked his head and clean neck.  As an older dog his chest was a little more developed. Not quite the balanced angulation both in his length of upper arm and stifle of the winner. I am sure both these young dogs will come all when. PG (1,0) 1st Cooke and Hammond’s Seasham Show me the Way O (1,0) 1st Peebles’ Seasham Too Much Heaven JW 17mth bitch – smaller stature bitch with a very pleasing head.  Ribs well back, short coupled.  Had super rear angulation.  Not quite the rear movement of the dog for BOB.  RBOB It SPIN Puppy (1,0) 1st Barrett’s Barolo Forever Faithful 10mth orange bitch – what a lovely puppy presented in  good coat and furnishings.  Liked her head, with correct head planes and ear set. Excellent length of upper arm and shoulder angulation balanced to her rear angulation which gave her a very pleasing outline, with a correct topline stood and held on the move.  She moved to well and belied her young age. Should have a good future. BP and RBOB. A shame she was unable to stay for the puppy group. PG (1,0) 1st Davies’ Fiducia Everest 18mth brown dog – a young dog enjoying his day out but eventually settled nicely.  Very much at the leggy stage and is currently a little higher in the withers than I would like.  Lovely in the head, correct head planes and pronounced occiput.  Lovely coat and furnishings.  Erratic on the move but should improve as he matures. O (1,0) 1st James’ Sh Ch Inostricani Fianna – 5yr orange bitch.  Lovely compact bitch with so much to like from her balanced outline and angulation to her coat and furnishings.  Super head, correct divergent head planes, pronounced occiput, eye set and shape.  Good depth to her chest, ribs well back and short coupled.  Correct topline held on the move. BOB HV P (5,1) A lovely class of puppies. 1st Hardy and Phillips’ Nevedith Golden Reign 8mth bitch – pretty bitch, with the most balanced front and rear angulation of the class which ultimately gave her the 1st place.  Lovely head, clean in the neck which flowed through to her angulated shoulders with balanced upper arm to blade.  Her chest needs to drop but will come as she matures.  Ribs well back, good stifle.  A little erratic on the move but settled more for the challenge. BP 2nd Mellish’s Vizslanya Vulkani 10mth dog – Liked his bone and balance and will improve as he matures as there is much to like about him.  Balanced angulation front and rear but currently needs to tighten in his front which showed on the move.  Has a very masculine head, strong in his neck and shoulders.  Well sprung ribs and short coupled.  J (3,1) 1st Gammon’s Glenbrows Reminiscent 16mth bitch – a little overawed initially but settled.  Very much needs to come on all round including her ribs to spring and currently a little narrow throughout.  Liked her head, eye and clean neck.  Has a good topline leading to correct croup and tailset.  Moving a little close today. 2nd Mellish’s Vizslanya Vulkani. PG (2,0) 1st Porter-Manning and Porter’s Wallaroo Duncan Disorderly 2 yr dog – a lovely male presenting a nice outline stood.  Balanced in his angulation, maybe prefer a little tidier front especially his pasterns/feet.  Well sprung ribs, strong topline and croup held on the move.  Enjoying himself on the move in the front but balanced with good drive from his correct angulated rear. RBOB 2nd Gammon’s Glenbrows Reminiscent O (4,1) 1st Bradley’s Ambravittoriya Art of Love for Marghele (Imp Rus) JW – 3yr bitch – another pretty bitch who won the class as presented the most balanced outline stood and on the move.  Liked her head and clean neck.  Her front construction was ok but would prefer more angulation.  Ribs back and short coupled.  Has good feet.  Moved with good drive. BOB 2nd Hardcastle and Bradley’s Castledogley Firenze JW  - 2yr bitch.  Finer all round than the winner.  Pretty in the head, neck and good front construction.  I preferred her length of upper arm compared to 1st but jus not as strong on the move.  Well sprung ribs, well held topline and short coupled. AV Gundog Veteran (15,2) – What a class of super veterans – all shown in such fabulous condition and credit to their owners.  1st Squire’s Sh Ch Taftazini Honour Wynna JW (GSP) – 8yr bitch.  Oh my what a GSP, if it were not for her slight grey muzzle you would not say she is a veteran, not a hint of her age on the move with the most fantastic rear drive coupled with balance and animation.  So wonderfully constructed, presenting a fabulous outline.  The prettiest of heads, dark eye, well set ears.  Clean in the neck, flowing through to balanced front angulation with good length of upper arm, correct narrower width at the top of her shoulder blades.  Elbows close in, superb feet.  Well sprung ribs, strong loin and coupling.  Moderate in the stifle, well muscled in her thighs.  Shown in superb condition with a fantastic sheen to her coat.  Not at all surprised to see she is a champion. Thrilled to see her awarded RBVIS – Well done. 2nd Reynolds Telurn Can’t Touch This SGWC (FCR) – 8yr dog – not surprising to hear this is a working dog – it showed in his fabulous muscle and condition.  Such a lovely head, dark in the eye, masculine but not at all coarse.  Lovely bone all round, balanced front and rear, nice depth to his chest.  In good coat.  Used his front and rear angulation to produce strong rear drive and front reach. Gundog Import Register J (1,0) 1st George Ainscough’s Siva Lovkyna Achouffe (SRP) – 10mth bitch So much to like in this young puppy. Super head, balanced front and rear angulation with a good length of upper arm which she used on the move to achieve front reach from good rear drive.  Should have a good future BP and GPGR4. O (1,0) 1st Moore’s Achouffe’s Summer Magic at Cavalmist (SRP) 3yr bitch – not surprised to hear this is the dam of the BP.  Presented a balanced outline stood and on the move.  Shown in fantastic jacket with the correct rough texture.   Lovely feminine head, liked her length of neck leading to good angulation in his shoulders, balanced to good angulated stifles.  Nice feet, strong in her pasterns.  Ribs well back, strong in the loin. Correct sabre tail.   Held her topline on the move, with front rear and rear drive BOB AVNSC Gundog P (5,2) This was a lovely and frustrating class in equal measures – 3 wonderful puppies of differing ages, all correct for their age and full of breed type, sadly what this means is 2 could not win, I found this as disappointing as the owners.  I am sure all the pups will have good futures.  1st House’s Gleadsbury Mad about the Boy 8mth dog (ESS) – A lovely young male presented in lovely coat and condition. Very balanced for his age both stood and on the move.  Super head, dark in the eye and well set ears.  Strong in his neck, good depth of chest.  Balanced front and rear angulation.  He moved extremely well for one so young with poise, balance and drive – it was this which won him the class. BPAVNSC 2nd Clarke’s Felleywood Lightning  9mth dog (GWP) – 1st time out for this young male, but shown in fabulous jacket and muscle condition.  Full of breed type, I liked his head, depth of chest, balance of his front and rear angulation.  Nowhere as near as mature or strong on the move at the winner, as he is very much at the leggy stage, but for a bigger breed I would not expect so much balance as the ESS has.  3rd Lewin’s Santallina Olympic Flame 6mth bitch (WSS) I am critiquing this lovely WSS bitch – yet another pup full of breed type and presented a wonderful outline stood.  Shown in fabulous coat.  Such a wonderful feminine head, good front and rear angulation, her chest will continue to drop and her ribs spring.  She moved very well and just as I would expect a 6 mth pup to do, sadly against the 2 older males she looked very much 6 mths when moving.  One who I am sure will come on very well. AVNSC Gundog PG (3,1) 1st Merry’s Gleadsbury it is Destiny for Anacapa 2yr dog (ESS) Lovely  young male, full of breed type, presenting a good outline stood and on he move.  Lovely coat and feathering.  Liked his head and eye, well set ears. Strong in the neck leading to good front construction with nice bone and depth to his chest.  Ribs well back, strong in the loin and topline which he held on the move.  Nice rear construction to balance the front, combined produce strong movement with such rear drive.  Sure he will have a good future.  Pushed for BAVNSC.  2nd Rose’s Plaiglen Raggtrade 4yr bitch (ESS) – A pretty bitch, liked her head, eye and ear set. Lovely coat and feathers.  Ribs well back. Not quite the balance of 1st and this showed on the move. O (8,4) What a super class to finish. 1st Tasker’s Zoldmali Ezmi (Imp SRB) 3yr dog (HWV) – So much to like about this HWV – has super bone, masculine but not a hint of coarseness.  Fantastic coat of correct length and texture, just the right amount of furnishings on his head.  Correct proportions to his head, dark in the eye and correct ear sent.  Strong and muscular in his neck, leading to good front angulation and depth of chest.  Ribs well back, strong in the loin.  Correct tail set.  Moderate stifle.  Shown in a good muscular condition.  Pleased to award him BAVNSC and sadly just missed a placing in a strong gundog group. 2nd Dummett’s Almondsbury the Pop Kids JW – 3yr bitch (Am Cocker Sp) – liked this bitch, shown in super coat and condition.  Moved very well.  Very stylish when stood and on the move, covering the ground well.  Gundog Group Grp1 Porter Manning and Porter’s Wallaroo Kinky Bootz JW 2yr dog (Weimaraner) – Presented such a balanced picture stood and on the move.  It was a strong group but he just powered around the ring with rear drive and front reach looking effortless.  Grp2 Jones and Athey Baricia Bella Rosa at Ninell – 19mth bitch – Golden Retriever – only young but showed herself very well in a strong group.  Lovely coat and condition, super head. Grp3 Saunders’ Carmelfair Corocenzo at Oxforddogs 4yr dog (Cocker Spaniel) Such a merry cocker, beautifully square in his outline.  Shown in fabulous coat and condition, moved very well. Grp4 Mahon-Hunns, Middleton and Haskins’ Susqudilla Bergelle Big Apple (Imp USA) JW -18mths dog (CBR) – what a super CBR, so much breed type.  In fantastic coat and condition.  Lovely front and rear angulation with a good stifle which is lacking in some of the breed.  Moved with purpose and drive.  Should have a good future. I heard later he has 2 CC’s, I am sure the 3rd will not be too far coming.  Gundog Puppy Group PGRP1 Youngson’s Linirgor Adeline at Treeveville – 8mth bitch (GR) – caught my eye as she came in and did not disappoint.  Beautifully balanced for one so young, shown in super coat and condition.  The most lovely expression with super head, dark eye and pigment.  Good front and rear angulation, used to her advantage on the move.  Should have a good future.  PGRP2 Harrisons’ Clonageera Summer Dreams at Millpoint 11mth bitch (Irish Setter) – presented in good coat and muscular condition.  Super head, liked her neck and set onto her shoulders.  Balanced front and rear which she used well on the move, but just not quite the drive on the GR. Pgrp3 Brown’s Campionside Silver Locket at Popebel 9mth bitch (Cocker Spaniel) PGRP4 George - Ainscough’s Siva Lovkyna Achouffe (SRP)
