Judging critique for Banbury & District Canine Association’s Open Show 5 May 2025

I was delighted to be invited to judge several breeds plus Varieties and Best in Show at this friendly show. My Best in Show was Hateley’s Shetland Sheepdog Mohnesee’s Meliya JW. A lovely typical example of the breed, well constructed throughout with pleasing head proportions and nice eye. Lovely coat presented in excellent condition. Moved well and soundly at all times.

Res BIS was Sanderson’s Skye Terrier, Esgia Highland Laddie. Seven years old. Lovely long head, good ear shape and carriage. Excellent lay of shoulder & return of upperarm, good forechest. Quality ribbing going well back to strong loin. Shown in lovely coat & muscular condition and really strode out on the move.

Best Puppy in Show was Carr’s Bichon Frise, Petit Ami’s Countin’ On A Miracle Bowiechons (imp NOR) Head in balance with body and fabulous expressive dark eyes surrounded by good pigmentation. Well angulated fore and aft. Coat in lovely condition. Moved soundly and never put a foot wrong.

Reserve Best Puppy in Show was Davies-Brown’s Smooth Collie, Blamorder I Dreamed A Dream At Wystry. Lovely outline and shown in excellent coat & muscular condition. Nice head of blunt wedge shape; very feminine and of good length. Moved effortlessly, very sound both coming & going.

Best Veteran in Show was Whitaker-Crosby’s 9 year old Whippet, Cobyco Could Be The Last At Mulcair JW ShCM VM. Feminine head eye and expression and well made throughout. Excellent on the move both coming and going.

1 Knott’s Zuni Someone U Loved Fallcat. BOB. Lovely example of the breed. Well balanced head. Muzzle of sufficient strength; good earset & size. Excellent bone & angulation throughout. Good depth of chest, spring of rib & nice strong loin & topline. Moved well fore & aft on neat well-arched feet. Good coat.

2 Dyde’s Jidace Calandrex. RBOB. Balanced in outline. Presented in good coat & condition. Lovely head, eye & expression. Nice ear size & set-on of ear. Good lay of shoulder & bend of stifle. Well-developed ribcage for age. Moved a little close in front.

1 Spearman’s Gifted Bravery. Best Puppy. Up to size. Good length of head with dark, oval eye. Small, fine ears. Good length of neck, sufficient bone. Good depth of chest & bend of stifle. Moved freely on well knuckled feet.

1 Hambling’s Chaseover Bellini. BOB. Lovely feminine bitch. Beautiful oval dark eye & feminine expression. Good strength in jaw & under jaw. Nice length of neck; good front & rear angulation. Nice depth of chest, spring of rib & well-muscled loin. Good length of tail. Moved well both coming & going.

1 Hambling’s Chaseover Tom Collins. RBOB. Muzzle tapering and dark eye. Good length of neck; nice forechest & depth of chest. Sufficient width infront and little too angulated behind. Good bone & feet. Shown in well-muscled condition. A little unsure at times which affected his outline.

1 Ryan’s Cavallibrook Demenza. Best Puppy & RBOB. Just a baby but oozing confidence and displaying required breed characteristics of being affectionate and absolutely fearless. Lovely head, eye & expression, open nose and dark eyes spaced well apart. Good muzzle and skull shape; well filled-in under the eye. Excellent angulation fore & aft. Pleasing bone & compact feet. Good quality coat of rich ruby red colour. Level topline held well on the move. Moved very happily & soundly.

1 Harthill-Speak’s Vertheyen Woody Under Gracewincavs. BOB. Good outline & shown in nice coat & condition. Well balanced head with lovely expression. Nice open nose; good pigmentation. Good lay of shoulder & return of upperarm. Chest needs to develop a little. Good spring of rib; would prefer a shorter coupling. Good tailset. Moved well, just a little close in front.

Danks-Kemish, Littlechild & Littlechild’s Ravensett Allegra With Alolfrana. English Setter. Well-constructed throughout. Lovely feminine head, nice eye & expression. Large open nose. Sufficiently well-rounded skull. Excellent angulation fore & aft. Good bone & topline. Moved well on good feet. Coat in excellent condition.

2 Hall & Oakden’s Spawood Proud Mary With Ghilgrange. English Toy Terrier. Lovely long head with flat skull. Good coat colour throughout. Sparkling dark eyes; good width of muzzle. High set ears of sufficient size, erect and held well; inside of ear facing forward. Good depth of chest & correct topline. Moved soundly fore & aft.

3 Busby, Busby-Alner & Busby-Alner’s Stanegate Sweet Dreams At Zakby. Irish Water Spaniel. Best Puppy AV VNB.

1 Welburn’s Oshowa Dream Come True. Eng Setter. Best AV VNB. Well balanced outline with excellent angulation fore & aft. Lovely head with enough strength but still very feminine. Nice eye colour and shape. Excellent length of neck, depth of chest, spring of rib & set-on of tail. Shown in good coat & muscular condition. Moved soundly & typically.

2 Thomas & Print’s Bilarnay Hotcross Bun. Irish Terrier. Really well constructed throughout. Pleasing dark, small eye. Good length of muzzle & skull. Ears set on well. Sufficient furnishings on head. Medium length of neck. Good depth of chest, nice topline with slightly arched, strong loin & high tailset. Good coat texture. Moved soundly on well-arched feet.

3 Fitzherbert-Stewart’s Olphae Fleur With Ottateck (AI) Otterhound.

1 Seager’s Blamorder Magic Maker With Freejack JW. Smooth Collie. Nicely made throughout. Good length of head. Sufficient strength in smooth muzzle. Nice almond eye shape. Well held ears. Good angulation fore & aft. Nice depth of chest & strength over muscular loin giving slight rise over the loin. Sufficient bone. Shown in muscular condition.

2 Ward’s Glenbrows Flame For Tantaraviz. Welsh Springer Spaniel. Res Best AV VNB. Lovely feminine head with nice eye & expression. Large open nose. Good pigmentation. Good length & strength of neck. Nice bone; well-developed chest. Good bend of stifle and well let-down hocks. Moved soundly on neat feet.

Moved soundly really striding out; shown in excellent muscular condition.

2 Hiam’s Ch Carradine Arfa Pint JW. Cairn Terrier. Lovely outline. Nice head with expressive dark eye. Nice head furnishings. Good ear carriage & shape. Good bone, depth of chest, nice topline & tail set. Good bend of stifle. Coat of good texture. Moved well.

1 Mutch’s Astleyview Crimson Moon. Irish Setter. Caught my eye on the first glance around the ring. So well put together. Shown in excellent coat & condition. Most exquisite head with lots of work in it. Dark very expressive eyes. Nice muzzle & skull shape. Excellent bone. Well angulated throughout. Moved soundly covering the ground well. Very mature for age.

2 Revillas Rodriguez’s Khumbila Centre Stage. Lhasa Apso. Shown in lovely coat & condition. Masculine head but not overdone. Nice round eye shape & expression. Open nose. Excellent angulation fore & aft. Good spring of rib & strong loin. Moved well with good head & tail carriage.

3 Lane & Lane- Ridyards’ Kulawand Skip N’Be Merry. Jack Russell Terrier.

1 Gill & Tobutt’s Wallensis Look What I Have Found For Geomondo. Min Schnauzer. Lovely young dog with all the essentials. Very well presented. Good length of head & skull of sufficient length. Nice neat ear shape & carriage; good furnishings on head. Medium neck, excellent angulation fore & aft. Excellent spring of rib with ribcage leading to nice strong loin. Good topline. Moved soundly coming & going.

2 Gray’s Purdyspride Rave On. Cocker Spaniel. Very nice dog with lovely outline & shown in excellent coat & condition. Appealing head, eye & expression. Large open nose. Excellent skull & crest of neck. Well sprung ribs leading to strong, short loin. Well-let down hocks. Moved well.

3 Piket’s Dandy-Lions Sno’Bodys Business (imp SWE). Standard Poodle.

1 Haydengold Just A Rumour At Sunandair JW. Golden Retriever. Well grown & so masculine. Excellent forechest and angulation fore & aft. Good bone & topline. Neat feet. Quality coat. Moved with drive.

2 Reynolds’s Kleinstar Moongazer. Dachs Min Smooth Haired. Lovely length of head, dark eyes with ridge over the eye quite prominent. Sufficient strength of muzzle. Good keel, Nice bone and topline. Good angulation fore & aft. Moved soundly coming & going.

3 Cato’s Winterfield August Delight of Earldax. Dachs Min Smooth Haired.

1 Reynolds’s Merryline Alexandra At Kleinstar. Dachs Min Smooth Haired. Well balanced head. Nice eye, open nose. Good high earset. Long muscular neck, good forechest and keel. Excellent spring of rib, bend of stifle & topline. Moved soundly.

2 England’s Dalens Queen Of The Seas At Silversport ShCEx. Dalmatian. Pleasing feminine expression. Nice oval eye with intelligent expression. Good head shape with flat skull. Nice earset & carriage. Pleasimg bone, feet & spring of rib. Good strength over muscular loin. Moved freely with long strides.

3 Webb’s Tenshilling Jimmy Mack JW. Pointer.

AV Brace 5,4 abs

1 Guy’s Kooikerhondjes. So well schooled. A lovely pair of examples of the breed, they looked so good together and were very similar in type. They moved as one, soundly around the ring.

2 Mardle & Barton’s Auldheim Candy Floss. Portuguese Water Dog . Well-made throughout with square outline. Sufficient strength of muzzle. Good shoulder placement & return of upperarm. Nice rib cage leading to short, strong loin. Good profuse coat of nice texture. Moved well both coming and going.

1 Coote’s Andeysson Cape Verde. Dachs Min Smooth Haired. Lovely to go over. Nice eye & expression; good ear carriage. Excellent angulation fore & aft. Good depth of chest & well ribbed back. Moved well and soundly both coming and going.

2 Moore’s Tenfield Klipspringer With Auryngra. Golden Retriever. Very nice outline; masculine head with good pigmentation. Nice bone; good angulation fore & aft. Moved well.
