Many thanks to the officers and committee for inviting to judge at this lovely retriever subgroup open show. Many thanks must also go to the exhibitors for entering and accepting my placings with grace.

Retriever (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling)

Puppy Dog 6

1st BPD RBD RBOB & BPIB Jenkins’ Tollelkin Villevenard of Whistlefire - 9-month-old male presenting a lovely, balanced outline for age. Well-proportioned head with pleasing wedge shape, good stop, and kind, intelligent expression. Correct ear set and eye colour, already showing the characteristic alert and eager look of the breed.

Good reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders and level topline. Well-developed chest for his age, with correct depth and ribbing. Strong, straight front and well-angulated hindquarters, giving him excellent balance.

Coat of correct texture and developing nicely, showing rich colour with clean markings. Moved with purpose and enthusiasm, maintaining topline and tail carriage throughout. Displays correct reach and drive, particularly pleasing in a youngster.

Confident, outgoing temperament; clearly enjoying his time in the ring. One to watch as he matures—showing real promise for the future of the breed.

2nd Trickett’s Tollpepper Celtic Zephyr - Quality dog of good overall type and balance. Pleasing head with correct proportions, well-shaped eyes giving a kind and intelligent expression. Correct ear set and good reach of neck flowing into a firm topline.

Well-ribbed body with sufficient depth and strength through the loin. Good front assembly with strong bone and tidy feet. Well-angled hindquarters providing drive on the move. Coat of correct texture and colour, well-presented and in good condition.

Moved soundly with purpose, holding his outline and tail carriage throughout. Not quite the animation or precision in movement of the class winner today, but a very worthy second. Shows maturity and breed quality—should continue to do well.

1st Jenkins’ Tollelkin Villevenard of Whistlefire – 1st in Puppy

2nd Shore’s Briztollie I Have A Dream JW - Pleasing overall type, developing nicely for his age. Balanced outline with good proportions and moderate bone. Attractive head with correct wedge shape, kind expression, and well-set ears. Eyes are of good colour and shape.Good reach of neck leading into a level topline and well-set tail. Chest developing well with sufficient depth for age, ribs well-sprung. Strong, straight front and tidy, compact feet. Hindquarters well-muscled and shows good angulation. Moved soundly with purpose, holding his outline on the move. Just needs a little more maturity and finish to complete the picture, but a quality young dog showing much promise for the future.

1st Bate-Ash & Ash’s Sinsircariad Old Fashioned - Well-balanced male presenting a clean, athletic outline. Pleasing head with correct proportions, good stop, and well-set ears. Eyes of correct shape and colour, giving a typical, intelligent expression. Strong neck flowing into a level topline and well-set tail, carried correctly on the move. Good fore chest and depth of body, with ribs well-sprung and firm loin. Strong bone and tight, well-padded feet. Coat of correct texture, well-presented. Moved soundly with drive and purpose, covering the ground efficiently while maintaining his topline throughout. Confident temperament.

2nd Gregory’s Exetollers What’s This - Pleasing male of good overall type and balance. Well-shaped head with kind expression, good ear set, and correct eye colour. Moderate neck leading into a firm topline and correct tail set. Good front construction with adequate forechest and depth of body. Well-ribbed with strong loin and good muscle tone. Nicely angulated hindquarters giving sound movement both coming and going. Moved steadily with a free and easy stride, maintaining his outline throughout.

Open Dog 4

1st & BOB Burgess’s Redmanhey’s Comte De La Fere - Quality male who immediately caught my eye on entering the ring. He presents a beautifully balanced outline with correct proportions and unmistakable breed type. Masculine without coarseness, with a clean, slightly wedge-shaped head, moderate stop, and kind, intelligent expression from well-set almond eyes. Ears of correct size and carriage, used to advantage. Neck is of good length, flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Straight front with tight, well-arched feet. Deep chest with well-sprung ribs and a short, strong loin. Firm, level topline held perfectly on the move. Strong, muscular hindquarters with a good turn of stifle and well-let-down hocks, giving excellent drive. Coat of correct texture and rich colour, beautifully presented with a pleasing amount of feathering. Moved soundly both coming and going, covering the ground with an effortless, purposeful stride.

2nd Jenkins’ Sh Ch Tollisty Moet En Chandon JW - Another quality male, very close up to the winner and unlucky to meet him today. Presents a pleasing, balanced outline with correct proportions and good bone throughout. Masculine head with a kind, alert expression and well-shaped eye giving typical Toller character. Clean neck flowing into well-laid shoulders and firm topline. Strong, straight front with tight, well-padded feet. Well-developed chest and good depth of brisket, with ribs carried well back. Firm loin and strong hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle. Moved soundly with good reach and drive, maintaining a level topline on the move. Coat of correct texture and colour, in good condition.

1st & BPB Hipkiss’s Deltandamba Domino Dancing - Very promising young bitch who presents a compact, balanced outline, Her head is clean-cut and slightly wedge-shaped, with a good proportion from skull to muzzle and correct rather than exaggerated stop. Her eyes are well set, giving that alert, friendly expression beloved in the Tollers, and her ear set is nicely high and well back on the skull. Her neck is of good length, well-set into firm shoulders, providing the impression of natural athleticism. The forequarters show straight, strong forelegs with elbows well tucked in and pasterns of correct slope. Her body is well constructed – deep in chest for her age, well sprung ribs, a short back, and a topline that remains level. Hindquarters are well developed for her age, On the move she gives the impression of power and drive from the rear, paired with good reach in front – her gait is springy and jaunty.

2nd Rice’s Tiamaria Bella Rosa - Another attractive young bitch of good overall breed type who shows plenty of promise for the future, well-balanced and feminine throughout. Pleasing head, nicely proportioned with a clean wedge shape, correct stop and good breadth of skull. Lovely expression from well-set, almond eyes and ears of correct size and carriage, framing the face neatly. Neck of fair length, flowing smoothly into a well-laid shoulder. Her body is developing nicely for age, she has a good depth of chest and firm topline, though not quite as mature or as strong through the loin as the first. Hindquarters well angled with hocks well let down,

On the move she shows good reach and drive, maintaining balance and enthusiasm. Tail correctly set and carried, showing a happy and willing temperament throughout.

1st & RBB Trickett’s Cfyre’s High Tea At Tollpepper JW (IMP CAN) - most attractive bitch of excellent type who stood out for her balance. She presents a clean, moderate outline with everything in proportion, and moved with true Toller enthusiasm and drive. Lovely feminine head, correctly wedge-shaped with clean cheeks, moderate stop and a well-filled muzzle.

Neck of good length flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders and strong, straight forelegs with ample bone. Well-developed chest of good depth reaching to the elbow, ribs well sprung and a short, firm loin giving strength without heaviness. Topline firm both standing and, on the move, leading into a well-set, moderately feathered tail carried with lively action. Hindquarters are well muscled with moderate angulation, strong second thigh and good width through the quarters. Moves with purpose, covering the ground easily with good reach in front and strong drive from the rear.

2nd Rice’s Tiamaria Juniper Berry - Feminine throughout with a balanced outline and typical Toller attitude. Presents a clean head of good proportions, nicely wedge-shaped with well-set ears and a kind, intelligent expression. Neck of good length, clean and well set into correctly angulated shoulders. Straight forelegs with adequate bone, tight feet and good depth of chest for her age and maturity. Firm topline and short, strong loin giving an overall impression of athleticism. Hindquarters well developed, showing moderate bend of stifle and strong second thigh. Moves freely and with enthusiasm, maintaining her topline and tail carriage throughout. Covered the ground well with good reach and drive.

Open Bitch 5 (1 ab)

1st & Best Bitch and BOS Hipkiss’s Afonbach First Sign O’Spring At Deltandamba JW - beautifully balanced, mature bitch of excellent breed type, shown in first-class condition and handled to perfection. She immediately catches the eye for her clean outline, correct proportions, well-shaped head with correct wedge proportions, moderate stop and good breadth of skull, Well-set ears of correct size, carried close and neatly framing the face. Neck of good length and strength, cleanly arched and flowing into well-laid shoulders. Straight forelegs with plenty of bone and well-knit pasterns. Deep through the chest, ribs well sprung and carried well back, strong topline and short, muscular loin. Hindquarters are powerful, showing good width, well-bent stifles and hocks well let down. Moves sound, true and purposeful from all angles, covering the ground with good reach in front and strong drive from the rear. Maintains her topline and tail carriage throughout, showing the effortless, active gait so typical of the Toller.

2nd Strevens’ Tollisty Shincha JW - Lovely bitch of very good breed type who pushed the winner hard today. Balanced and feminine, presenting a pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Well-constructed throughout, showing quality. Attractive head of correct wedge shape with a kind, intelligent express. Moderate stop, good breadth of skull, and strong muzzle. Ears correctly placed and of good size, carried neatly to frame the head. Neck of adequate length, clean and well set into nicely angulated shoulders. Forequarters straight and strong with good bone, neat tight feet. Deep through the chest with well-sprung ribs and firm topline leading to a well-set tail. Hindquarters well-muscled with moderate angulation and good turn of stifle. Moved out with drive and enthusiasm, keeping a level topline and showing the characteristic springy Toller action.
