York Canine Association 20th July 2025

My sincere thanks to the society for the kind invitation to judge at your lovely show, and to my stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly and efficiently. A new venue for the society with plenty of space for exhibitors to set up. It was unlucky that after a few weeks of sunshine, we had a rather damp forecast.

Australian Shepherd

PG (1,0) 1 McKinnon’s Dialynne Enzo Ferrari. Upstanding 7-year-old red tri male who presents as all male. Well presented, with a clean-cut head showing good strength and a typical expression, aided by well-set eyes. Level bite, although I would expect this may have moved slightly with age. Nicely arched neck into well-laid shoulders and a good length of back. Well-angulated rear, all in a lovely quality coat. Unfortunately, his handler struggled to get the best from him on the move today. BOB

Briard

P (2,1) 1 Racks’ X’Walter Des Etoiles Taquinantes (Imp Bel)

9-month-old male who, despite standing alone, impressed with his quality. Super head with well-placed, open eyes giving the desired intelligent expression. Strong, square muzzle with correct bite. Good overall body shape, with well-laid shoulders and a strong amount of bone. Pleasing forechest, good depth of chest, and well-angulated rear, complete with the required double dewclaws. Movement was unsettled and tended to pace, though I suspect this was due to the handler not moving him fast enough to encourage proper gait. With maturity and experience, this youngster should have a promising future. BP and BOB

Welsh Corgi (Cardigan)

O (1,0) 1 Fox’s Gowerston Granville 2-year-old blue merle of good substance with a typical alert and active temperament. Head correctly proportioned, giving a foxy expression, with flat, broad skull and well-set ears. Well-laid shoulders, good depth of chest, and correct length of back. He had a good turn of stifle, which he used effectively on the move. BOB

Welsh Corgi (Pembroke)

P (3,0) 1 Hollingworth’s Highashes Hits the Spot 7-month-old who certainly hit the spot today. Appealed for overall shape and breed type. Correct length of foreface with well-set eyes and ears giving a typical foxy expression. Good length of back, well-balanced front and rear. Profuse coat over the rear gave the illusion of being bum-high, but hands-on confirmed a level topline. Moved out with style and confidence. BP

2 Ellwood’s Ellhar Indian Scout 0-month-old male with much to like. Today, 1st scored higher on head pattern. Correct bite. Good length of neck leading into well-laid shoulders. Straight legs with ample bone. Nicely sprung ribs of good length and well-angulated stifles. Moved out soundly.

3 Ellwood’s Ellhar Indian Squaw

PG (2,0) 1 Roper’s Twinan Raise Your Game JW Young bitch of pleasing type and shape, presenting a typical low-set, sturdy outline. Appealing head with flat, broad skull and correct foxy expression. Well-set, round eyes and correct bite. Good length of back with well-angulated rear. Moved out positively and with purpose.

2 Hollingworth’s Twinan Rising Star at Highashes Another quality bitch, and not surprising to discover she’s a littermate to 1st. Similar remarks apply, though I felt 1st had the edge in head properties today. No doubt they will change places in the future.

O (3,2) 1 Ellwood’s Ellhar Chief Scout Tricolour male with plenty of masculine appeal. Scored highly on head pattern with a flat skull and well-set ears. Eye colour complemented coat well. Good forechest and pleasing length of back from a broad, deep chest. Strong bone and well-angulated rear. Moved out with drive and purpose. BOB
