Reading and District Kennel Association – Premier Open Show (28.05.25)

Thank you to the society for inviting me to judge at this lovely show and for the exhibitors for their entry. I had a great day judging, thank you to the steward for keeping the ring organised and flowing and also for the English Toy Terrier Club for sponsoring the classes.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

Puppy (3,2)

1st Mrs C A, Mr A M & Miss L J Rhodes – Calonlan Zeus

9 months old tri male, with good skull and well set ears which were long and plenty of feather. Lovely large, dark round eyes and correct scissor bite. He makes a nice shape free standing, good neck, well laid shoulder, level top line and bodying up well. Nice to see a happy and confident puppy, moved well and parallel, tail never stopped wagging. Junior (6,2)

1st Mrs R Hartill-Speak – Verheyen Woody under Gracewincavs

16 months old male, nice headpiece with correct skull, high set ears with feather, good stop, length of muzzle and correct scissor bite. He has a lovely expression with large dark round eyes, just has that glisten to them. Nice length of neck, well laid shoulder and level topline. Good bone and bodied up well with good spring of rib. He moved well, parallel to and fro with drive.

2nd Mr B Rix – Ricksbury Elite

14 months male of a nice type with lots to like. Another with a nice head, large dark eyes and good length of muzzle. Correct bite. Good neck and lay of shoulder. Level top-line, good angulations, makes a nice shape, bodying up well. Lovely broken coloured Blenheim in good coat. Moved well parallel to and fro, another with good drive and muscle. Two promising youngsters.

3rd Mrs C & Miss J Lewis – Carleeto Red Velvet

1st Mrs C & Miss J Lewis – Carleeto Black Velvet

13 months black and tan bitch. Still very raw at this age but lots to like, with her sweet expression and large dark eyes. Correct scissor bite, skull almost flat between high set ears. I liked her compactness, giving her a nice shape. Good neck leading into well laid shoulder and level top-line. Good angulations throughout. She moved out well, just needs a bit more confidence.

2nd Mrs C A, Mr A M & Miss L J Rhodes – Calonlan Sweet Dream

18 months blenhiem bitch. Another that is a nice size and more compact. Nice dark pigmentation and large dark round eyes. Good neck, level topline and tight elbows. Just needs time to body up more. She moved out well today with correct tail carriage, she was happy to be in the ring with her owner, never stopped showing.

3rd Miss S Boonwaat – Korolevsky Bronislava

1st Mrs C & Miss J Lewis – Vina Minelli Du Chateau Noblesse Mit Carleeto JW

21 months ruby bitch. Draws your eye to her in the ring, with her clean compact outline and ring presence. Large dark round eyes, good length of muzzle, correct scissor bite, long ears with plenty of feather. Good neck, leading into level top-line and correct tail set. Well laid shoulder, good spring of rib, short coupled. Good bone, straight front and good angulations to rear. Dripping in a rich ruby coat of silky texture. Free flowing movement with reach and drive and never stopped showing. BOB

2nd Ms C J Stanton – Cassandy Bruce Banner

4 year old black and tan male. Very masculine, broad skull with high set ears,well filled under eye and large dark round eyes that had a glisten to them. Correct scissor bite. Good neck and level topline with tail set straight off the back. Good bone and spring of rib. He was full of substance throughout, dripping in coat. Moved out well and was parallel to and fro.

1st Mrs T & Mr J M L Warren – Rhymswell Fields Of Gold

12 months old male. He is a nice shape, well balanced throughout with alert expression. Wedge shaped skull, with slight stop, tight compressed lips and correct scissor bite. Dark eyes with a sparkle to them, set obliquely. Candle flame erect ears used at all times. Good long neck, well laid shoulder, straight front and straight forelegs of good bone. Back very slightly curving to loin and falling again correctly from loin to root of tail. Breed trait of thumbprints and pencilling included. Good angulations behind. Moved out well and confidently throughout the class, parallel and straight mover.

2nd Mrs Z Phillips – Ettology Interesting Times

13 months old bitch. Finer and feminine, clean outline and another with a nice shape. Long head with narrow wedge, clean tight cheeks and compressed lips. Dark sparkling eyes and erect ears. Straight front, fine bone, good neck and correct back line to tail set. Correct pencilling and some thumbprint apparent. Unsettled on the move, just needs more confidence but a nice exhibit, with compact shape.

3rd Miss L & Mr G Bailey & Hancocks – Witchstone Silent Whisper

1st Mr G & Mrs L Dixon – Lasagesse Kashmir JW

16 months bitch with ring presence and a balanced sleek and clean outline. Alert in temperament. Long narrow flat skull with wedge shape. Candle flamed ears used throughout, correct almond shaped eyes that were dark, sparkling and showed off her expression. Correct scissor bite. Long neck into well laid shoulder, straight chest, straight forelegs, well sprung ribs and good clean built body. Tail set on correctly and carried correctly on the move. Well rounded loin and good angulations throughout. Lovely dense coat. Moved out with reach and drive, very precise mover. BOB and later took TG1.

2nd Mrs Z Phillips – Ettology Big Bang JW

4 years old male with good thumbprints and pencilling. He has the correct skull and wedge shape. Nice dark almond eyes, correct scissor bite and erect candle flamed ears. Good neck, slightly curved back line from behind the shoulder to loin and then from loin to correctly set tail. Straight chest and forelegs which were fine boned, good spring of rib and deep chest. He is compact and does make a good shape. He moved out well and was parallel on the move to and fro

Puppy (3,2)

1st Mrs S Turner – Feyetas Hoochie Coochie Man

9 months old male, alert and confident. Skull slightly rounded between the ears, with thin blaze and symmetrical markings. His ears were large, erect and with rounded tips. His eyes were of medium size, rounded and dark, with dark rims and were set correctly, ten to two. Correct scissor bite and black nose. Good length of neck, well laid shoulder, tight elbows, level topline, good spring of rib and high set tail with plume. Moved out well and parallel, confident and lively puppy. BPIB

Junior (2,1)

1st Mrs J Matthews – Jaynepaps Aslephina Vela

16 months old bitch. Finer in type and feminine. Another with slightly rounded skull between the ears and large flaring ears with fringing. Symmetrical markings either side of blaze, correct scissor bite and black nose. Medium sized dark round eyes with unbroken pigmentation to eye rims. Straight forelegs of fine bone, slightly longer in body, accompanied with high set tail with plume. Moved out ok but needs a bit more confidence at times as dropped her tail.

1st Mrs J Matthews – Baillion Be Unique

22 months male. He certainly has ring presence accompanied with abundant coat of silky texture. Really draws your eye to him. Lively, alert and confident in character. Lovely proportions throughout, makes a great shape on the stand and movement. Eyes are of medium size, rounded and dark, unbroken dark pigmentation to eye rims. Black nose, correct proportions of muzzle to skull. Correct scissor bite. Nice neck into clean sloping and well laid shoulder. Level top line, good spring of rib, tight elbows and strong loin. This led into a high set tail, which was carried arch over the back with plume. He had free flowing action on the move, really covered the ground well. BOB and later was shortlisted in the toy group.

2nd Mrs S Turner – Feyetas Love Me Tender

3 year old male, who has a lot of similar qualities to 1st. Masculine in type, well rounded skull between his flaring ears full of fringing. Good length of muzzle, correct scissor bite, lovely eyes. Good neck, good deep chest, tight elbows, level top line and high set tail held arched over the back with plume. Even down to the finer details with his hare feet with his tufts of hair between the toes. This boy was full of coat and makes a nice shape on the stand and movement. RBOB
