The Northern King Charles Spaniel Club Open Show (06.09.25)

Thank you to the club for inviting me to judge this show for a breed I take great interest in. Thank you for the exhibitors for bringing your dogs and to the stewards who kept the ring organised and flowing between classes.

A pleasure to judge this memorial class in memory of a lady who not only mentored me in the breed but also became a great friend.

1st Baileys – Aldoricka Sweet Victoria

Eye catching 3 year old tri bitch. Compact and cobby ideal size toy spaniel. Quality domed skull, low set ears with plenty of feather. Large, dark round eyes set wide apart, lovely expression. Muzzle square and wide with good turn up. Good reach of neck, held proudly on the move. Well laid shoulder and good spring of rib. Good bend of stifle to hindquarters. Moved well and soundly. A quality bitch who was a delight to go over. Best Bitch and RBIS.

2nd Maddisons – Justacharma Northern Magic

5 year old masculine male shown in full coat. Good skull, long feathered ears and dark round eyes. Large open nostrils with nose set back, short and turned up. Good neck, well laid shoulder and good ribbing, elbows tight and close to the chest. Level top line and good angulations to hind quarters. Scored on free flowing sound movement.

1st Tonners –Headra’s Inspiration At Halbinsel

10 year old tri dog, shown in full coat. Masculine throughout. Long feathered ears, large dark round eyes, lots of cushioning and domed skull. He has good bone and good spring of rib. Straight forelegs, with enough angulations to forequarters and hind quarters. On the move he was sound and forward but kept his head close to the ground. BVD

1st Mochries – Chacombe Harry On Downsbank

10 month old quality tri puppy. Lovely domed head, large expressive eyes and low set ears. Nostrils well opened, nose short with defined stop. Lips exactly meeting with cushioned cheeks. Good length of neck, body is developing well with deep chest and spring of rib. Good strong bone. Well laid shoulder and good angulations to hindquarters. On the move today he was unsettled at times but showed his sound movement with reach and drive. BPD and BPIS

2nd Smiths – Chamcombe Hendrix at Justacharma

Litter brother to 1st with similar attributes to like. Well domed head, dark eyes and cushioned cheeks. Good bone and level topline and good angulations to fore and hind quarters. Slightly longer in loin than 1st but was more settled on the move and easy to see he is sound and true.

3rd- Maddisons –Mitapip Macallan

1st Smiths – Justacharma Magic Retained

16 month old male, large expressive dark eyes set wide apart. Nose short and turned up with defined stop. Good cushioning to cheeks with neat finish. Nice reach of neck, well laid shoulder and level topline which was held standing and on the move. Moved well, sound and balanced to and fro. Still maturing and in time shoud fill out, but the essentials are all there.

2nd Tonners – Headras Dont Stop Me Now at Halbinsel

16 months old male. Shown in lovely condition, coat still coming through but gleaming. Another young male who is still developing and needs more time to fill out but has good strong bone. Domed head, pleasing large eyes and turned up nose with defined stop. Good reach of neck, level topline and tight elbows. Moderate angulations to hind quarters. Moved well today with free movement.

1st Morleys– Baldragon Dream Chaser at LizLanMor

21 month old tri dog. A quality dog. Masculine in full coat. Lovely domed head, feathered ears, large dark eyes, drawing you in. Short nose turned up, defined stop. Cushioned cheeks giving neat finish. Bodying up well, with deep chest, strong bone, good spring of rib, level topline and good tail set. Nice reach of neck held proudly on the move. Well laid shoulders and good angulations to hind quarters. Straight when viewed from behind. Eye catching and foot perfect on the move, free flowing with reach and drive. BD and BIS

2nd – Graves – Mitapip Jackflash Macduff

23 months Black and Tan male, who was gaining more confidence as the day went on. He has large expressive eyes, good turned up nose with defined stop and neatly finished cheeks and tight lips. Just needs time to body up more. On the move, he was sound and when gaining confidence showing free movement, shown on a loose lead.

1st Dunfords – Headras Bruce

3 year old tri male. One I have not seen before but a quality male, very eye catching. Shown in full gleaming coat. Lovely domed head, low set ears with plenty of feathering. Dark eyes, turned up nose. Wide nostrils. Good finish to muzzle. Good reach of neck, well angulated forequarters and hind quarters. Good bone. Well sprung ribs, deep chest and level top line. Slightly longer coupled. On the move he had free flowing movement, very accurate.

2nd Abbotts – Helmajon Sibelius

3 year old lightly marked Blenheim. He was very vocal today, excited and unsettled on the move at times. However, when he holds himself together he is a lovely shape and has free movement. Domed head, well set ears and large dark eyes, set wide apart. Good cushioning to face. Straight forelegs and good bone. Good reach of neck, deep chest and well laid shoulder.

1st Mochries – Downsbank Indian Ink

3 year old Black and Tan male. Another quality masculine dog, compact and cobby with a lovely temperament, tail wagging on the table and on the move. Lovely head piece, full of cushioning. Good spring of rib, deep chest, tight elbows and good strong bone. Level top line and short coupled. Good angulations to front and rear. Moved well to and fro with sound movement. RBD

2nd Abbotts –Helmajon Rhapsody In Blue

3 year old tri male. Very masculine throughout, with good strong bone. Nice gleaming coat, bodied up well throughout with his deep chest and spring of rib. Good length of neck, leading into well laid shoulders and level top line, tail held straight off the back. Good angulations to hindquarters well bent stifles and straight when viewed from behind. The movement on this boy is very precise; he is free flowing to and fro and shown on a loose lead.

3 year old Blenheim masculine male. Very cobby and good bone, shown in full gleaming coat. Domed head with low set ears. Lovely dark expressive eyes, short nose with good turn up. Cushioned throughout with neat finish. Good neck, great spring of rib and deep chest. Unfortunately was a tad unsettled today on the move.

1st Abbotts – Cofton Reach For The Stars

8 year old, ultra feminine smaller bitch. Very compact with short coupling and good bone. Nicely domed head, with expressive dark eyes, very sweet and gentle. Long feathering to ears. Enough neck leading into level top line which she held on the stand and on the move. Deep chest and spring of rib accompanied with straight front. On the move she was confident and happy, shown on a loose lead. BVB and BVIS.

1st Rutherfords – Rignolla Devon Dreamer with Potbelli

8 month old well broken blenheim, very feminine. Still needs time to mature but all the essentials are there. She has a typical head, with the most lovely large dark eyes and neat finish to muzzle. Good length of neck, leading into well laid shoulder and level top line. Well angulated hind quarters. In her class she was unsure of the flooring, but by the time the challenge came she had adjusted and had a lot more confidence, moving soundly to and fro, at one with her handler. BPB

1st Hayward & Walkers – Justacharma Magic Dance Dalshareon

17 months old, feminine bitch. A smaller type bitch that is compact and cobby with a touch of glamour. Very feminine head, with lovely expressive eyes and fill to face. Lovely coat with feathering throughout. Good neck, and level top line, with tail set straight off the back. Good angulations to and fro. On the move she was happy and wagging her tail throughout, showing active, positive movement.

2nd Morley & Hitchcocks – Justacharma Magic Trix for LizLanMor

Litter sister to 1st. These two bitches could swap places on another day. Very similar in lots of ways and shows off a lovely outline, with good angulations to and fro. Body is developing well, good spring of rib and level top line. Excellent coat condition. Happy and confident on the move, foot fall was excellent.

2 year old lightly marked tri. Appealing domed head, lovely expressive eyes and neat finish to head. Good neck, well laid shoulder, level top line. Good deep chest, full of substance and good bone throughout. Short coupled. Moved very well to and fro, active sound mover. RBB

2nd Abbotts – Helmajon Smyths Cadenza

3 year old, lightly marked tri. Smaller in type but proportioned. Nice square shape and short coupled just needs to fill out. Large dark eyes, domed skull and low set ears with feathering. Neat finish to muzzle. Good neck, well laid shoulder and level top line. Happy and confident, moved out well and soundly.

1st Smiths – Helmajon Clara’s Romance

3 year old well broken Blenheim. Petite and feminine, nice size. Very pretty head, with large eyes, well set ears and turned up nose with defined stop. Cushioned cheeks and tightly fitting lips giving clean finish. Compact bitch, who is a lovely shape, good angulations and level top line, short coupled. On the move she’s very sound and true, showing parallel movement. Never stopped showing for her handler.
