Waverley Gundog Association

Breed: Retriever (Golden)

Thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge the lovely Golden Retriever breed, and to the exhibitors who graciously entered and allowed me the opportunity to go over their gorgeous dogs.

Golden Retriever

Junior Dog

1st Warden’s Holinbrae Eurastar at Glentochty. 14mth better behaved of the 2, preferred this boys’ leg length, so presents a more balanced profile. Better in forechest and feet than 2nd, good angulation, better tail set and carriage, moved OK on the surface.

2nd Bolton’s Goldmarker I Dreamed A Dream at Shiresmill. Also 14 mth, not as confident as 1st, good head and appealing expression. Deep chest but shorter on the leg, lovely coat, better head carriage than 1st, slightly higher tail carriage, also moved OK.

Graduate Dog

1st McCormack’s Flyngalee Topsy Turvy. Exuberant mover, lovely head, good pigment, strong jaw. Good front and rear assembly with well balanced angulation fore and aft, well bodied and well coated, level topline, good tail, good feet.

2nd Warden’s Holinbrae Eurastar at Glentochty. – 1st in junior.

3rd Evans Rathcloon Boom N Bangin.

RES 2nd Bolton’s Goldmarker I Dreamed A Dream at Shiresmill.

Post Graduate Dog

1st McDonald’s Lamancha Time Traveller JW. Larger framed than 2nd, balanced, a real handsome dog. Darker pigmented beautifully presented coat, appealing head, good neck into shoulders, substance with balance all through, correct angulation, in super condition, good head and tail carriage, well boned, neat feet, cleanest mover.

2nd MacLeod’s Bluebraes Bidey In at Rocamar. Another lovely dog, just not so positive on the move, crabbing slightly. Another in good condition, well coated and well bodied. Good head and tail carriage, feet a little flatter than 1st.

3rd Warden’s Holinbrae Eurastar at Glentochty.

RES Pratt’s Rosyth Keltic Lord.

Limit Dog

1st Wallis Lamancha Roll On Good Times. Best mover in the class. Beautiful coat and condition, good substance, balanced in profile, stacked and on the move. Appealing head and good ears, dark pigment. Good forechest, well laid shoulders, good legs and bone, neat feet. Deep chest, well ribbed, short loin. Well handled and presented to take Best Dog & RBOB.

2nd Warden’s Holinbrae Zoom Time at Glentochty. Not as well coated as 1st, didn’t move as positively although has good reach and drive, wasn’t as settled with a different handler, so appeared not as balanced when stacked. Overall a good dog with lots to like.

3rd Warden’s Holinbrae Eurastar at Glentochty.

Open Dog

1st Wallis Blue Gemstone Katrina at Camellis. 7 year old in good coat and condition. Balanced profile when stacked, positive and accurate on the move. Good forechest, strength in neck, good ribbing and short loin. Balanced angulation, better feet than 2nd.

2nd Bolton’s Megarvey Still Game for Shiresmill JW. Longer cast, lovely coat, but very soft. Appealing head and expression, good ears, strength to jaw and good pigment. Good angulation, balanced, although a little untidy moving away, good tail set and carriage.

Puppy Bitch

1st, McDonald’s Lamancha Unstoppable. 9mth Beautiful head and soft expression, strength to muzzle and strength in neck, clean throat, good front, well boned with lovely feet. Correct ribbing and short loin, good width to thighs and moved well, wrapped in a lovely coat. A really good balanced young lady. BPIB & delighted to see her go RBPIS.

2nd Hill & Smith’s Megarvey Cocomelon. 10mth with lots to like, although not the fluidity on the move of 1st. Good work in head, lovely eye, dark pigment. Good forehand and stood on good legs and feet. Correct through body and topline.

Junior Bitch

1st Russell & McCormack’s Flyngalee Dilly Dally. Better mover than 2nd although on a slightly shorter stride, good head and neck, correct pigment. Good front, well boned, good legs, feet OK. Balanced rear angulation, with width to 1st and 2nd thigh.

2nd McFarlane’s Bluebraes La Dame Blanche. Although longer striding she crabbed on the move today. Appealing head, strength in neck, good front and rear, feet OK, good tail set and carriage and held her topline.

Graduate Bitch

1st Russell & McCormack’s Flyngalee Dilly Dally - 1st in junior.

3rd Pratt’s Rosyth Kind of Magic.

Limit Bitch

1st McDonald’s Lamancha Obsidian Flame. Appealed in head and expression, strength in muzzle, clean throat, better front than 2nd. Good coat and body, correct ribbing, loin and topline. Good rear and feet. In great condition. Slightly proud of her tail today, moved well.

2nd Russell’s Grassyards Field of Gold JW. A nice bitch. Good head although not so strong in muzzle. Well bodied with good ribs, a shade longer in back than 1st. Not quite as well muscled, but good enough rear and moved out well, tail carried well.

Open Bitch

1st MacDonald’s Lamancha New Adventure JW. Yet another beautiful dog from this kennel, who produce such consistent typey dogs. This stunning girl never put a foot wrong. The best of movers, so balanced in profile and movement. Appealing head, typical expression, dark eyes, well placed ears, dark pigment. A powerful neck, clean throat, lovely balanced angulation front and rear, well off for bone, lovely feet. Flowed from neck through topline and onto tail. Super muscle tone and condition, wrapped in a lovely jacket, and she moved so positively and accurately to secure BOB. I was delighted to see her shortlisted for BIS. Well deserved.

2nd Palmer & White’s Linirgor Perfect Symphony of Cairnglen. I really liked this 7 year old. A really lovely head, dark expressive eye, excellent pigment. Good front and rear, balanced angulation, strong topline, well ribbed, in great condition and moved well.

3rd Harper’s Tullochmohr Shooting Star at Glynerva JW.

RES Pratt’s Rosyth Jennifer Eccles.
