Many thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge at this lovely, well organised show. A warm welcome awaited at a superb venue with fabulous facilities.

A pair of wonderful ladies stewarding for me – Gail and Mandy – thank you both for keeping me on track and things moving smoothly along.

It was rather a chilly morning and this understandably affected some of the exhibits both stacking and moving.

Retriever (Curly Coated)

Puppy 1st Foxriever Immortal Spirit – 7 mth lad of good size. Presented a good outline. Correct coat with well defined tight curls. Correct wedge shape to head, dark eye and well set small ears. Sufficient forechest, strength to neck which was clean through laid back shoulders to correct topline. Balanced angulation fore and aft, good bone, depth and width to chest and decent width to second thigh and well set and carried tail. Food feet. Moved well. BP & RBOB.

Open 1st Foxriever Grey Ghost – 2 ½ yr old liver male. Better behaved on the move and stack than 2nd. Pleasing outline, although not quite as clean in throat as 2nd. Correct head and expression. Forelegs well under body, good bone and neat feet. Correct top and underline, correct moderate angulation and moved the truer of the 2 in this class. BOB.

2nd Rowancurl Gentle Gaelor – 3 yr old black male. Thought this would be my BOB but he was being naughty and difficult to assess. Another who presented a typical balanced outline and had a gleaming coat. Appealing head, strong neck and clean throat, well off for bone, a little flatter footed than 1st on this surface. He had a gleam in his eye and was not for co-operating, being unsettled on the stack and on the move where he was moving s little close behind and wide in front.

Bracco Italiano

Puppy 1st Callaiscroft Esprit De Vie for Amicofedel NAF – 10 mth boy who appealed on initial look. Presented a lovely correct outline. Good in head with clean cheeks, median line, depth to muzzle and typical large nose. Correct soft expression. Moderate neck showing strength, long well laid back shoulders with good width between. Forelegs strong, defined tendons, correct pastern, slightly flat feet on this surface. Chest broad and deep, good ribs, correct topline. Good rear with long thighs and good bend to stifle. Moved with animation and exuberance. BP.

2nd Bonbon Bonny A Dream of Agatha (Imp Ned) – Also 10 mth male but currently not the balance of first, being longer cast and not quite the same body condition. He too had a lovely head with chiselling below the eyes, deep muzzle, divergent planes and lovely big nose. Correct set and length to ears. Good bone, better feet than 1st. Not as positive on the move.

Post Graduate 1st Silvestre Stolen Kiss - 2 yr old male. This lad was giving his handler a bit of a hard time. Longer cast than 2nd but balanced. Good through front assembly where he scored over 2nd. Correct bone and good feet. Showed some drive on the move but he was being a little uncooperative today.

2nd Teverlarni Keep The Faith – Also 2yr old male. Didn’t present the same outline being heavier over the throat, neck and shoulders, shorter in body and with more rear angulation. That being said he has a good head, correct bone and good feet, is in condition and moved OK.

Open 1st Whitgun Renegade Master at Owlspoint JW ShCEx – Another 2 yr old male, appealed in profile. Lovely gloss to his coat and tough elastic skin. Good size and substance, correct angular head with spongy nose and divergent planes and good chiselling below the eyes, clean through throat and neck, a touch heavy over the shoulders if I’m being picky. Good depth and breadth to chest, well ribbed, correct topline and tailset. Strong in hindquarters, correct in angulation and fairly powered round the ring to BOB.

2nd Elfindew Kinky Reggae – What a lovely lady, mature at almost 5 yrs. Appealed immediately in her overall make and shape, lovely sculpting to her head, well laid back shoulders and correct return of upper arm, defined tendons to forelegs, feet could be a shade tighter. Correct topline and well carried tail and she moved like a powerhouse with style and fabulous reach and drive from her muscled long thighs and well bent stifles. RBOB.

Post Graduate 1st Malik Team Del Crepo (Imp Serb) – Rising 2 yrs old this lad presented a good profile, although tended to throw his front on the stack. Good through head with correct width to length and neat short triangular ears. Medium length neck into moderately sloping muscular shoulders, good bone and neat feet. Well sprung ribs, short backed, correct topline, moved OK.

Open 1st Bonapartist Unforgettable at Stonesview (IKC) – 18 mth male who was giving his handler a time of it but settled down as the class progressed. Definitely one who displayed the exuberant temperament typical of the breed. Slightly rounded skull, balanced ratios of skull to muzzle. Good through neck into shoulders with width between blades, good forehand assembly. Deep chest, sprung ribs, short strong loin, moderate rear angulation and once he settled displayed typical gait. BOB

2nd Sh Ch Bonapartist Peaky Blinder avec Aukskara – Mature 5 yr old male. Liked this chap a lot. All the attributes you would expect from a show champion but gave way today to the exuberance of youth. Appealed through head, neck and front assembly. A shade heavy over the shoulder, correct topline and underline, good muscular rear, moved well. RBOB.

Italian Spinone

Puppy 1st Lucoru Punchinello- Lovely 8mth male. Lovely head, divergent planes, oval skull, defined median, good depth to muzzle, large nose. Some strength to neck, well laid back shoulders, good legs, slight slope to pastern, large round feet. Well set shoulders, good topline sloping from withers and slight arch to loin, good ribs and some muscle to thighs, moved well. BP.

Post Graduate 1st Dalebourne Kore – Bitch who is rising 3 yrs old. Presented a good picture. More bone and substance than 2nd, appealed in head. Good forehand, straight legs, good oval bone and good feet. Correct topline, well muscled long thighs moved well enough although a little close behind today.

2nd Lucoru Perpetual Spring – On initial look I thought she’d win the class. Lighter in bone than 1st. Lovely head and gentle expression, large nose, good muzzle, good neck. Well laid shoulders, sprung ribs, moderate tuck, balanced angulation fore and aft, slightly flat feet. Hard to assess as unsettled on the move which cost her.

Open 1st Lucoru Blown Over – This was a very close call. Liked this lad a lot but have to admit he was initially not my winner. Lovely shape and size balanced all through. Good head, correct neck with strength and muscle. Well laid shoulders with width to blades, well angulated forehand, but when initially stacked not so well angulated behind. Correct body proportions and moved out well with drive. When handler turned him and stacked him the other way, his hind angulation was better and gave the balance I was looking for, and this and his steadiness today were the deciding factors. BOB.

2nd Sh Ch Inostricani Fianna – This is a bitch who I have admired since she first came out, I have long wished for the chance to go over her and was absolutely delighted to see her here today. She is ever bit the champion, everything in tip top condition and beautifully presented. She moved out beautifully as her obviously correct construction would demand and displayed all the typical attributes of her breed. However something made her decide today she was not for standing and despite her handlers valiant attempts she was not for co-operating and had to settle for RBOB.

Puppy 1st Rainethyme Rerite The Rules for Chanderhill – What a handsome chap, at just 7 months appealed on initial look. Beautiful black and white curled coat of correct texture. Flat skull, balanced with correct ratios for skull to foreface, clean dark pigment to nose with good open nostrils. Expressive dark eye. Neck showing strength, set well into shoulders, with good angulation and correct return of upper arm. Deep chest, sprung ribs, correct length of back and well set and carried tail. Muscular thighs and moderate rear angulation, moved with drive and style. BP and delighted to hear he went RBPIS.

2nd Lendever’s Icing On The Cake – 8mth lad who isn’t quite as balanced in profile as 1st being slightly shorter cast. Good head with parallel planes and flat skull, dark eyes, well set ears. Neck set well into shoulders, good layback of shoulder and well boned. Depth to chest and spring to ribs. Moved well but not the freeness of 1st.

Junior 1st Unica De Ubbadat – lovely bitch of 15 mths in beautiful, corded coat. Balanced in profile. Good through head, neck and forehand. Strong bone, neat feet. Deep chest, ribs sprung, correct length and well set tail. Best mover in the class and she drove from her muscled moderately angulated rear to take RBOB in strong competition.

2nd Rainethyme Remember Me – littermate to BP and very raw but everything in the right place and developing as one would want. Head correct, expressive eyes, well set ears. Clean neck into shoulders, good front assembly and level topline, rear angulation moderate and thighs developing. Was perhaps a little overawed today but her conformation and balance won her this place.

3rd Lendever’s Hold The Line

Post Graduate 1st Hercules De Ubbadot – 3yr old male with good, corded coat. Good for size and shape. Correct head and expression, strength in neck, correct forehand and return of upper arm, good bone and neat feet. Level topline, good spring to rib and depth of chest. Muscular thighs and moderate angulation. Would prefer a better tail set and carriage. Moved OK. 

Open 1st Ag Emera Dotty – Thought this classy 18 mth young lady quite beautiful. Lovely outline when stacked, exuded confidence and effortless power on the move. Appealed in head which has strength and femininity, flat skull, correct proportions, good nose and deep pigment, expressive eyes, well set and shaped ears. Short neck set cleanly into shoulders with good forehand angulation and return of upper arm. Straight strong boned legs and neat round feet. Chest of depth and ribs well sprung, brisket to elbow. Correct length to height ratios. Well muscled rear with correct moderate angulation. All wrapped up in a beautiful, curled coat. Drove round the ring and totally owned it. BOB and delighted to hear later BIS3.

2nd Zorrazo Everybody Gonna Talk – Honest sound chap of just over 2 yrs. Lovely correct head with good eyes and ears and intelligent expression. Good strong short neck set well into shoulders with correct angulation and upper arm, strong bone and neat feet. Correct topline and moderate rear angulation with muscular thighs. Slightly longer cast than 1st. Not as true on the move, would prefer a better tail set and carriage.
