Essex & East Anglia Pug Dog Club

Essex & East Anglia Pug Dog Club

Open Show

Friday 5th September 2025

My Thanks to the committee of this friendly club for their invitation to judge their open show held alongside Richmond CH Show, my thanks to the exhibitors for staying and for their entries and consideration on a warm day, and to my steward Jonathan for keeping the ring running smoothly.

Unfortunately the ground was very uneven with grass of differing lengths which some dogs found difficult to cope with and made it difficult to assess the movement on some otherwise lovely dogs, and placings reflected this in some cases.

Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch (1, 0A)

1st Makepeace’s Sandigara Hope and Dreams – sweet baby girl of 5 months, just at the right stage for age, good for bone and size, attractive head with large dark round eyes and high set ears, thick neck leading into a level topline, moved ok when settled. BBPIS.

Veteran Dog (2, 2A)

All absent

Minor Puppy Dog (3, 0A)

1st Kelsall’s Kelbrend Mister Marmalade – attractive 8 month old male, who here appealed for size, shape and substance, masculine head with high set ears, large dark round eyes, short muzzle of good width, moderate neck leading into a level topline, high set tail, moved out well here, BPD and RBPIS.

2nd Beech& Schofield’s Bubbapug Jelly Baby – another nice puppy of just 6 months and so less mature but where you’d expect at his age, well off for size and bone, attractive head giving the most appealing expression with dark round eyes, and black mask, well angled body but not as together on the move on the uneven ground.

Novice Dog (3, 1A)

1st Monk’s Roxmarr Grand Stand at Zoant – 10 month, excellent colour, attractive head with well defined wrinkle, high set ears, short blunt muzzle, black nose, level topline and balanced in front and rear angulation, moved well.

2nd Green’s Carpaccio Jack Frost – 4 year old, good for size, head ok but felt he had a prominent over nose wrinkle, short blunt muzzle, level topline with correct bend to stifle, lacked concentration but when he puts his mind to it can move out ok.

Post Graduate Dog (3, 0A)

Difficult class between nice males.

1st Tydeman & Wright’s Zuazu One Step Beyond – 2 year old, who for me was the most appealing for his overall size and outline, slightly arched neck with a level topline, high set tail and correct bend to stifle. Attractive head with high set ears, defined wrinkle, short muzzle, eyes large and round although could be a little darker, moved out well.

2nd Crump’s Lagniappe Little Big Man At Lunendales – 3 year old, well balanced with adequate bone, correct head, good wrinkle, correct ears, black mask and nose, eyes round, but would prefer them a little larger, moderate neck leading into a level topline, preferred the tailset on one, good movement.

3rd Green’s Nicrobi Lord of The Dance

Limit Dog (3, 0A)

1st Makepeace’s Hugapug Guy Fawkes at Sandrigara – 3 years old, attractive head with the most appealing expression, large round head with blunt muzzle, nose black, with round dark eyes, black mask, correct neck, level topline with high set tail, carried well, good turn to stifle, and sound movement with gentle roll. Slightly longer in body than my BD but a deserved Reserve Best Dog today.

2nd Reid’s Bubbapug King Of Puddings – 2 years, well balanced but on the smaller size compared to my winner so would prefer a little more of him, correct head with attractive expression, large dark round eyes, pleasing construction allowing him to cover the ground well on the move.

1st Truelove’s Nijacpugs Hot As Hell JW – 3 year old male of correct size and substance, clear coat of good colouring, masculine head, large and round with short blunt muzzle, high set ears and large dark round eyes, well defined wrinkle, dark pigmentation, thick neck moderately arched, well balanced body with level topline and high set tail, well laid shoulder reflected in good bend of stifle allowing for sound movement in all directions with the unexaggerated desired roll, pleased to award him Best Dog and Reserve Best In Show.

2nd Monk’s CH Macmoore Stand And Deliver of Zoant JW – 4 year old, attractive head with large dark round eyes, dark pigmentation, high set ears, correct neck, level topline, slightly shorter in the leg than the winner but well constructed throughout, didn’t cope so well with the uneven ground today.

BEST PUPPY DOG: KELBREND MISTER MARMALADE

Veteran Bitch (1, 0A)

1st Swinge, Swinge & Saffer’s CH Ragemma Saucy Suzie At Balthazar JW – loved this 7 year old girl who lives up to her saucy name and belies her age, correct round head, good ears, large dark round eyes, short blunt muzzle with black mask only showing the slightest of frosting, good neck, leading into a nicely made body of correct size and substance, moved out well with typical movement. Best Veteran In Show.

Minor Puppy Bitch (5, 0A)

Tough class with some promising puppies who will undoubtedly change places at different times.

1st Reid’s Bubbapug Empress Pudding – 7 month, appealing puppy for size and substance, well balanced with good bone, head correct for age with attractive expression, large dark round eyes and black pigmentation with black mask. Good length to thick neck, level topline and correct angles front and rear, strong rear action moving with drive and slight roll.

2nd Reynolds’ Croftren Glorious Grace – 6 month, another lovely puppy who matches one well for size, substance and balance, attractive large head with large dark round eyes, high set ears and black mask on short muzzle, good neck, high set tail, close up to one but not quite so settled on the move today.

3rd Ede-Rolfe & Rolfe’s Croftren All That Jazz

Special Puppy – Fawn Bitch (1, 0A)

1st Reynolds’ Croftren Come On Over – 6 month, lovely puppy, attractive and appealing in outline which is of good size with correct bone, large head, well defined wrinkle, large dark round eyes, short wide muzzle, dark pigmentation, moderately arched neck of correct length leading into a correctly constructed body, level topline with high set tail although this could have a slightly tighter curl. Sound movement in all directions I couldn’t deny her BPB and Best Puppy In Show.

Puppy Bitch (1, 0A)

1st Reid’s Roxmarr What’s Up Pussycat – 10 months, another of correct size with good bone, well balanced in proportions, feminine head with round dark eyes, would prefer to see a more defined wrinkle, dark pigmentation, well angled body with high set tail, tidy on the move.

Novice Bitch (1, 1A)

Post Graduate Bitch (2, 0A)

1st Tydeman & Wright’s Jobeile Dream Sparkler at Tartanmops – 19 months, appealing overall outline with good substance, large head with dark pigmentation, good neck leading into a level topline, would prefer a slightly higher tailset, well bent stifle, moved out well.

2nd Kelsall’s Flaikwell Damson Jam – 5 year old, correct for size and substance, large rounded head with large dark round eyes, would prefer a more defined wrinkle, dark pigmentation, well laid shoulder, didn’t cope so well with the ground on the move.

Limit Bitch (5, 2A)

Tough decision between some lovely girls here.

1st Makepeace’s Cedilla Cherry Jubilee at Sandigara – 3 year old, appealing for size with moderate bone, attractive head with correct ears, round dark eyes, dark pigmentation, wide muzzle with black mask, ok for neck, level topline and high set tail, moved out well, edged this class over 2 as she stood better in the final lineup, but started to feel the heat in the challenge which was a shame.

2nd Swinge, Swinge & Saffer’s Myter Crème Caramel At Balthazar – 2 years, slightly smaller in build than one but still with good substance, correct head with appealing expression, large dark round eyes with well defined wrinkle, dark mask on wide muzzle, strong neck, well bent stifle allowing her to move well in all directions.
