Open Show
Hounds
Enjoyed a super day at this very friendly and well thought out Open Show in the
heart of Cornwall, my thanks to the organisers of this lovely Dog Show who go that
extra mile to ensure everyone has a good day out, thanks also to John & Pauline
who were my Stewards all day and kept all the classes going so well in spite of the
weather throwing just about everything it possibly could at us!
It was good to have some lovely dogs present and the Hound Group was full and
very pleasing to see plus there were some super rosettes on offer as well as Crufts
qualifying for those placed; close decisions but you can only judge on the day as
clearly the conditions of the day suited some a lot better than others that’s for sure;
after having the chance to assess the BOB exhibits it came down to a lovely short list
& the following were the final winners:
Hound Group
HG1 Tervanty Magic Dragon (Whippet); HG2 L Wynd Where The Shadow Ends (imp
USA) (Ibizan Hound); HG3 Drymoor Marron Glace at Boscalla (L/H Dachshund)
lovely type & shape, nice smooth action in her movement flowing well around the
ring; HG4 Velourias Las Vegas (Saluki)
Hound Puppy Group
HPG1 Tervanty Magic Dragon (Whippet); HPG2 L Wynd Where The Shadow Ends
(imp USA) (Ibizan Hound); HPG3 Byelobog Granabrazo at Hawksflight (imp SVK)
(Borzoi).
HPG4 Stargang Morrissey for Devondax (Miniature S/H Dachshund) super sleek
compact & nicely angled, good clearance, moved out well.
AV Hound Veteran (9) 6 abs
1. Lawrence & Woodward’s Palmik Kandalama Dusk Till Dawn JW ShCEx VW
(Whippet) brindle/white parti I have judged before & is built on classic lines,
excellent shoulders & curves in all the right places topped off with a feminine
& refined head, she moved well with good forehand daisy cutting action &
sound rear gliding around with her 10 years proving no problem at all. Best
Veteran
2. Carter’s Ch Afilador Room On The Broom ShCM ShCEx VW (Ibizan Hound)
red/white of 9 years in superb condition, really like her lean head & well set
large erect ears, great for breed type & has very sound movement going
round with some style, was a very close decision today.
3. Westaway’s Abbilis Jive Talking at Treranch VW (Mini L/H Dachs)
Basset Fauve de Bretagne
Post Graduate (2)
1. Carter’s Rangali Booty Licious, wheaten red, appealing bitch nice rough coat,
liked her length & balanced shape & scored here in head balance, preference
for the front & shoulder placement on this one, level topline, strong quarters,
tail held aloft & moved out well.
2. Horn’s Mochras Marta attractive wheaten, good harsh coat, medium head of
balance with defined occiput, good expression from dark eyes, shoulders set
well from shortish neck, had good depth, could be better angled behind &
moved a little widely.
Limit (1)
1. Horn’s Mochras Marionette litter sister to 2nd in previous class, similar
comments apply as her head appealed as did her front, brisket & topline,
would prefer more bend of stifle, but she moved off with enthusiasm with a
fast gait which was sound.
Open (1)
1. Carter’s Gouvier Expresso Martini JW all male red wheaten with quite some
coat on him & has an attractive nicely balanced head, great expression &
attitude, liked his overall shape which he displayed well when moving, super
stride & lots of enthusiasm. BOB
Basset Hound
Post Graduate (1)
1. Cooper’s Houndsday Vito Andolini very handsome tri coloured male who was
nicely balanced throughout, lean head & calm expression, ears of good length
to scoop up those scents, short legs that had good strong bone, shoulders
laid back, good forechest, hindlegs angled with hocks well let down, sabre tail
set well, was very good moving with nice strong action; a nice dog who was
just pipped at the post for the final award.
Open (1)
1. Mackaill’s Clanwillow Future Voyager BOB another handsome male, also tri
colour, good strong boy with nice balance & plenty of substance throughout,
lovely lean head good dome shaped skull, good expression, can imagine this
one going across the fields as he had super action when moving & kept his
backline well, good padded feet, on the move he had good powerful carriage
& tail set, handled to advantage to take BOB.
Borzoi
Graduate (1)
1. Mackie & Preddy’s Byelobog Granabrazo at Hawksflight (imp SVK)
completely new one to me & just 10 months old, most attractive white/fawn
male who really impressed for overall balance, such a lean long head with
desirable veining, scissor bite, almond eye with good pigment, neck flowing
into his clean shoulders very nicely, absolutely no flapping of elbows as they
were held straight & true, good clean bone & excellent front held well under,
oval ribcage, nicely arched loin, good strong muscled quarters, tail of good
length nicely furnished, still developing but felt he should have a good future
ahead BOB & HPG3
Ibizan Hound
Limit (3) 2 abs
1. Carter’s L Wynd Where The Shadow Ends (imp USA) red/white lovely breed
type who should quickly gain his title, super ear set, masculine & lean head
flat skull, good strong jaw & scissor bite he is a hunter, tall and narrowly built
he uses his assets so well when moving, today he was controlled & true, very
nice hound. BOB & HG2
Open Bitch (2) 1 abs
1. Amahte’s Bewitched (imp Can) VW red/white grand lady of just about 12
years of age & such a nice type, shown in wonderful bloom, erect straight
front, the right depth from narrow ribcage, angled quarters, very attentive &
alert she moved off well, pleasure to see her.
Irish Wolfhound
Graduate (1)
1. Warwick & Gregory’s Cairnstorm Resolution very pale fawn of good size &
looked powerful yet still elegant, she had a feminine head with good dark eye
& pigment which accentuated her expression which was gentle, black nose,
muzzle slightly tapering, neck of good length to very well laid shoulder, good
strong bone, very sound front, lovely ribcage, good length of back, nice bend
of stifle, thick tail curving gently, she moved well in front & had an easy action
but was a little closer behind than preferred BOB
Pharaoh Hound
Graduate (1)
1. Turton’s Doucal’s Agwa Habib at Damoradaxies refined & lean in appearance
she was quite overwhelmed by everything & it was difficult to assess her, she
also dropped her ears constantly which spoilt her look, is too fine in bone &
light in body for me and clearly needs quite a bit of time spent on her to try
and progress her for the show ring.
Open (1)
1. Turton’s Doucal’s Pagella litter sister to previous class, for me this one was of
better breed type but it was difficult to separate the two for various reasons,
she also kept dropping those ears however preference for the head quality of
this one & the stronger body & bone, she has more depth of brisket & good
ribs, slightly weak in pastern, hindquarters with a moderate bend of stifle,
movement was all over the place as was her sister & needs a lot of patience
and time spent on her. BOB
Whippet
Puppy (2)
1. Woodward’s Tervanty Magic Dragon haven’t seen this elegant young lady
before, pale fawn/white trim, well what you see is what you get! Graceful &
super curvy, balanced & powerfully driven she drove off with such ground
covering ease retaining her shape, feminine classic type with neck blending
nicely, super front & clean shoulders, plenty of heart room, strong loin & good
angle to quarters, at 11 months is still very young but has good potential,
soundest of movers. BOB & HG1
2. Hooper’s Veredon Precision at Torbers finely built black of nice size, 10
months she had a very attractive head, good eye & expression, preference
would be for a cleaner shoulder & return & a touch more depth, but she is still
developing, ribcage oval, curved tuck up, nicely arched loin slightly shorter
coupled, second thigh not as strong, slightly unsettled on the table but moved
out with confidence.
Junior (6) 1 abs
1. Barnes Cushtiwood She’ll Do Nicely for Doddridge fawn/white and such an
elegant young lady, she displayed her virtues well on the stack, has nice back
skull, good dark eye & melting expression, strong arched neck, finely boned
good feet & arched toes, good depth & nice tuck up, loin strong, quarters had
good angles, moved well towards & away then around with precision.
2. White’s Pastida Cruz Escalades up to size male who was handled to
advantage here, he had a refined head, good dark eye, nice length of muzzle
& good pigment, straight front which ideally could have had slightly more
width, was curvy in outline good tuck up & hindquarters nicely angled & stood
over good ground.
3. De Graffham’s Cleeton We Go Together at Firesprite
Post Graduate (1)
1. Barnes Leathern Thumbs Up for Doddridge stood alone here but she was a
most attractive brindle and I liked her overall shape in profile, head is lean &
balanced with good oval dark eye, neck of good length, was unsettled in rear
movement today but the conditions of the weather and tent didn’t help that’s
for sure, she should do well.
Limit (3)
1. Durante’s Galemira’s Pandora of Duranridge pale red/fawn with brindle
markings one I found attractive, she was shapely & elegant with a very pretty
head, fine ears, good length to muzzle, long neck, would prefer a bit more
depth so elbow meets the lowest point of brisket, front could be stronger as
this showed on the move however her relaxed carriage, overall balance,
curves & quarters steered her through to take this class.
2. Pedley-Biggins Doddridge Dazzle Um With Viscar, brindle/white parti most
attractive and is of good size & shape with good curvy outline, her
construction fits her frame very nicely, she has a nice neckline blending into
her shoulders which were well placed & clean, she has a balance to her head
& nice ear set, good expression, was slightly hunched on the stack & clearly
wasn’t the happiest and to be honest I don’t blame her, it was cold and wet!
Open Dog (1)
1. Pedley-Biggins Roy’s Rocket of Viscar new one to me fawn/white very well-
muscled, he had a lean & elegant head, good bite, good neck & shoulder
placement, good depth, strong over his loin but this dropped away too steeply
for me, angled hindquarters & nicely toned, being shorter coupled he tended
to pull to one side at the rear on the move & needed to settle.
Open Bitch (4)
1. Barnes Doddridge Strictly Cha Cha JW, most beautiful and well-balanced
bitch, dark brindle with gorgeous expression smooth outline showing good
topline & the most graceful curves highlighting her many virtues, super
feminine, she is classy & is of good overall construction, like her very much,
she moved soundly and well but today lacked the flowing driving action I have
seen previously from her.
2. Hooper’s Veredon Veuve Cliquot Avec Torbers very attractive fawn and lovely
size & shape, her head is very lean & well balanced, she has good pigment &
nicely placed fine ears, good neck, shoulders sitting nicely, reasonable return,
good depth of brisket, good tuck up, was slightly flatter in topline, nicely
angled quarters, good hocks, moved okay here.
3. White’s Iscalades Goldilocks
AVNSC Hound
Open (3) 2 abs
1. Rickard’s Velourias Las Vegas (Saluki) elegant & attractively marked
gold/grizzle male of very nice breed type & balance, shoulders well laid,
strong front & good depth of brisket, strong loin, moderately angled
hindquarters, good tail set, nicely feathered, have judged him before & he has
developed very nicely, had a good long effortless stride here today and was
sound. HG4
AV Hound Open Stakes (11)
1. Carter’s L Wynd Where The Shadow Ends (imp USA)
2. Luckytails Skye at Zorionadax
3. Breezelyn Long Time No See at Damoradaxies
Jill Cross (Gilari)
