Wigan and District Open Show 1st February 2025

Thank you to Wigan and District for the invitation to judge at their super hospitable show I had two lovely stewards who keep me on track . Judging is always a great reminder to me of how important presentation and handling are to show the judge the merits of our dogs.

Cocker Spaniel

Class 55 Puppy (4/5)

A lovely class of puppies all at different stages

1st Eisen’s Crankwoods Quick Step - an impressive 8-month-old black boy with excellent proportions for his age. He has a well-shaped head, dark gentle eyes, a strong neck, good shoulders, and a broad, deep chest with rounded ribs. He has neat feet, good bone, lovely angles, and excellent width to his thighs. His confident carriage, movement and excellent presentation secured his win. BP and Gundog puppy group 2

2nd Bayliss’s Wilanorah Sat’day Night Diva – At 6 month old blue lady, very much the baby of the class but she is a natural show girl who strided out with confidence and excellent carriage. She was truly square and has good angles. She has a developing head and lovely dark eyes. Fully of puppy naughtiness and exuberance and super merry, I could of scooped her up and taken her home! I will watch her development with interest.

Class 56 Junior (5/5)

1st Dolan’s Snowgate Shine On – This masculine dark blue boy of 14 months is a lovely example all through. Correct dentition good head shape with work and chiselling and depth to his muzzle. He has good bone and feet, well ribbed and short coupled. He has lovely rounded quarters and moves true. He looked a picture in profile striding out at one with his handler who presented him so well. BOB

2nd Robert’s Glantreath Seren Libanus with Sunabil: This male blue has a beautifully proportioned head, dark eyes, and a regal appearance. He could do with some more weight and would benefit from some ringcraft classes to channel his lovely exuberant nature. His profile movement is good and his presentation was impressive.

Class 57 Postgraduate (2/6)

1st Davies’s Manchella Little Mermaid of Annaside – Elegant blue bitch with lots to like. Lovely dark eyes and good shoulder placement, for me she just a touch narrow all through. A lovely exhibit all the same whose presentation was outstanding.

2nd Jennobar Greatest Showman – Such a great name for this Stallion blue roan and tan who wasn’t in his best coat condition due to a recent operation. He moved out so positively and has excellent ribs, bone and width. He was super merry too.

Class 58 Open (2:7)

It was really close up between these two lovely cockers who excel in different ways

1st Davies’s Annaside Star Turn – Lovely black lady of 4 years. Won the class on her neck and shoulders, she was so beautifully turned out and has a stunning outline which she also kept on the move. I just would of liked her a little shorter in the coupling.

2nd Bayliss’s Wilanorah We Wil Rock You- A well-made masculine and exuberant boy who powered around the ring and almost makes you forget he could do with a bit more neck. He excels in the depth of his super well rounded ribs and is so short in the coupling. He must be a joy to own and show.
