Huddersfield & District Canine Association

Breed: Best in Show

Huddersfield & District Canine Association

21st September 2025

My thanks to the committee of the Huddersfield and District Canine Association for the kind invitation to judge at their Premier Open Show, which also celebrated the 125th Anniversary – a fabulous achievement. My best wishes for the associations continued success.

Despite being greeted by glorious autumnal sunshine, there had been heavy downpours in the days prior to the show rending the outside rings inaccessible, all judging to place indoors.

AV Import Register Gundog.

No entries.

Golden Retriever.

Puppy (1)

1. Smith Godmarker Alderbaran Mature gent, in good dene coat, balanced to the fore and rear, good rib, level topline and appealing head, lovely round feet, would prefer a touch less length of loin, moved well if a touch close behind, put on a good show and was well presented. BP.

Junior (2)

1. Smith Goldmarker Luminora Litter sister to the winner of puppy, sadly she was upset by an individual on entering the ring, nonetheless she gathered herself together, liked her outline and feminine head, her happy disposition, clean coming and going and made the most of the good size ring, a pleasure to judge. Could easily swop places with her brother.

Postgraduate (5,2)

1. Robbins & Rowark Brekswood Honey Bee JW A mature 2-year-old in super coat, shown in great condition, I liked her head and expression, well off for type and of correct proportions, moved well going around, could be tidier coming towards. Good neck into well-made shoulders and scores in rib. RBOB.

2. Williams Lamryn Star Of The Sea JW A less mature bitch, with a lot to like, her eye was a touch pronounced for my taste, but appreciated her good straight coat, bend of stiles, lovely neck into well made shoulders, round feet and her disposition.

Open (3,1)

1. Williams Auristela Lady Luck At Lamryn Mature bitch of lovely substance and bone, a little unsettled at the outset but she soon settled, good topline, can look stuffy in the neck but improved, scores in construction to the fore, would prefer less weight to complete and otherwise pleasing picture. BOB.

2. Staniland Bermary Sweet Child of Mine A sweet feminine bitch, out of coat today, which made her appear longer on leg, scores in coat and coat and topline on the move she is relaxed, easy and sound, liked her temperament and attitude.

Irish Setter.

Puppy (1).

1. Lorrimer Gwendariff Yellowhammer (IKC) Upstanding male, lots of enthusiasm and keen to show off all his attributes, lovely long neck, striking head, correct bone for age, in angles he is just right, with a super coat emerging, deep chest and on the move he has a long easy stride, an exciting prospect show showed very well. BP.

Junior (0).

Postgraduate (2,1).

1. Bisby Meadowfoot Wild One A pleasing bitch of good size, with much to like, nothing overdone, good depth of chest, lovely topline, well bent stifles and good coat, pretty head and eye, on the move she was unsettled pulling away from her handler today, which was a shame. BOB.

Junior (3,1)

1. Morrow Ruember’s Remember Me Labrador much to like but a little loose in topline at the moment, scores in forechest and layback of shoulder, well off for rib, could use a little more angulation to the rear but showed very well.

2. Blomfield Teverlarni Who’s That Girl At Woodland Blue A young Bracco with the sweetest nature, but not feeling the most confident this morning, but got better as the class went one. Best Puppy in Show.

Gee Watercroft Time After Time. Norfolk Terrier. What a future this one has, well forward, super in body and coat and best of heads and expressions, moved around the ring with a determination and confidence that others lacked today.

Calvert Elazlan Elle For Leather. English Springer Spaniel This sweet little lady was tiring a touch, regrettably as it cost her higher honours, I have no doubt that like the Norfolk we’ll be seeing more of them, credit to her handler who reminded unflustered despite being tested in true springer style!

Best Veteran in Show.

Heslop Tianola Chasing Shadwows (Re-Imp). Standard Poodle. Caught my eye immediately and the combination commanded the ring, moved so freely with a long stride in a difficult ring, super coat, very well presented, lovely black colour and showing so signs of age whatsoever. Sanderson Sh Ch Owlspoint Trouble Again JW ShCEx OSW A superb Bracco who didn’t appear to tire a jot, despite the long day, correct gait for the breed, lovely outline and in great condition, pushed one all the way today, a lovely, relaxed temperament completed the overall image.
