Great Harwood Open show 26th May 2025

Thank you to the Committee for the kind invitation to judge at your show. The weather was fine until the last hour when I had to judge Best in Show in the rain. The exhibitors were very sporting and showed in the rain for the final awards. Some quality dogs sent through from the other groups, I had a super day and was spoilt for choice at the end.

Puppy (2)

1st Taylor & Tenn STRETTONHILLS HOITY TOITY

I was really taken with this youngster. She has a very appealing head with good width to skull and dark pigmentation. On the stack she presents a balanced outline with correct shoulder placement and ample rear angulation and strong hocks. Moved out well for her age, should have a bright future. BP, Gundog Puppy Group 1 and please to award her BPIS.

 2nd Forrest ORLAGOLD MAJOR TOM

Another pleasing puppy, he has a masculine head and deep muzzle. Shoulders well laid and good depth to chest. Shown in good coat and condition. Not as together as my winner in front movement.

1st Shaw & Robertshaw AURGENTIOUS MELION AN KI AT AKENSCALES

Presented a very pleasing outline with good balance both fore and aft. Attractive in head and clean through neck leading to correct front assembly. Shoulders well laid and correct level topline. A little unsettled to start but did enough to win the class. Moved with drive and purpose.

2nd Grindley BRAMSTEAD LOVELY JUBBLY

Another promising youngster who has a pleasing feminine head with adequate stop. Symmetrical outline when stacked, with correct angles both in front and behind, not as well developed as my winner.

1st Webster KULAWAND SKIES OF BLUE OVER BENJCROFT

An upstanding powerful male with ring presence in abundance. Masculine head with broad enough skull with correct proportions. Well placed shoulders with correct amount of upperarm He is very well constructed throughout, level topline, nicely angulated behind with good width of thigh. He was well presented in good coat and excellent muscular condition and moved out with drive to win this quality class, just tends to fly his tail on the move. BOB and pleased to award him Group 2.

2nd Robertshaw KENSCALES BEAU BARON JW

Another pleasing dog soundly made throughout. Good front assembly, firm level topline and adequate rear angulation. Preferred the head proportions of my winner. Moved with a powerful true gait, holding his topline with good tail carriage.

1st Bates AKENSCALES WATERLOO

Masculine pleasing head free from coarseness with kind dark eye, strong neck of adequate length. Really liked his outline and correct level topline leading to well turned stifles and stood on strong hocks. Moved out well on a true stride.

2nd Newton’s PENNY YELLOW FOR RALYVILLE

A pretty feminine bitch, with good front assembly, clean over neck and has good depth of chest. Well developed hindquarters and correct tailset. Didn’t do herself any favours today as not co-operating on the stack. Moved out soundly.

1st Hawkins SCHONHUND SHOW AT THE OSCARS (Weimaraner)

Stood alone today, a sound puppy coming together well. Pleasing in head, masculine with correct earset. He has well laid shoulders and good straight front and ample bone. Well proportioned throughout with correct length to height ratio. Just raw with lots of time on his side. BP and Puppy Group 3

Very pleasing in head with good proportions and adequate stop. Ample depth, with correct short back and good spring of ribs. Good coat and colour would prefer her in harder condition.

2nd Barnes LIZZLOG THE JOLLY FRIAR (F/C Ret)

Pleasing in head with flat skull and of good length. Good depth to chest with elbows tight in, adequate rear angulation and correct tailset. An enthusiastic young dog, erratic on the move today. Presented in good coat and condition.

1st Howarth MOORBROOK OWDID THATAPPEN JW (Eng Setter)

I judged this quality blue bitch as a raw youngster and pleased to see she has fulfilled her early promise. She has an elegance about her, correct oval skull and adequate stop. Well laid shoulders and firm short back with well turned stifles. Comes into her own on the move with strong rear drive and lashing tail. Shown in good coat with ample feathering. Best AVNSC. Pleased to award her Gundog Group 1 and Res BIS.

2nd Moore NADAVIN YALING FOR GEMELBET (Field Span)

Very pleasing in head with correct muzzle and kind dark eye, good length to height body ratio with adequate rear angulation and strong hocks. Would prefer her tighter in front movement.

A very well constructed youngster with adequate body length. Correct head proportions, with enough hair coverage. Well sloped shoulders, adequate upperarm and legs well boned developing well in body with good depth to chest and strong hindquarters. Moved very well at one with handler. Best Import.

1st Cunliffe IRISH CH CALVDALE I SAY OF FALLENLEAF (ESS)

Beautiful head of correct proportions, kind eye, ears well set and of good length. She is so well constructed throughout, super forehand and strong hindquarters, shown in great condition for her eight years. What a super Veteran she is, a credit to her owner. A pleasure to award her Res BVIS.

2nd Smith FLYENPYG PORKY PIG JW OSW (Lab Ret)

 A strongly made dog, pleasing head, good width to skull and adequate stop. Clean through neck with well placed shoulders. He is nicely balanced front and rear and short coupled. Stood on strong hocks which he used to advantage on the move.

A super black young male, so very well constructed throughout, great forechest with good angles both front and rear, moved with reach and drive. has all the essentials to do very well. Deserved his place in this pleasing group.

4th Cohen’s LYNWOOD MERRY MAY KING WITH SHUSHANA (Irish Sett)

 A quality male with the best of heads, occiput well defined, dark eye and kind expression. Shoulders well laid, good angulation both front and rear. Went well and presented in tip top coat and condition to take a place in a good group.

A very promising young lady with beautiful head and expression. Well made in front and has ample oval bone. Good length of neck, correct topline, adequate rear angulation and tight feet. Tidy mover for a youngster, should have a bright future.

What a high class youngster, Correct wedged shape head, loved her pigmentation. Super forehand, shoulders well sloped, good rear angulation and strode out well.

A really pretty young lady with a refined head. Firmly made throughout, moved out on a smooth stride off strong hock with correct tail carriage. Coat coming through well.

An attractive youngster, pleasing lean head, with bright expression. Good depth to brisket and firm back. Well handled and moved out freely.

2nd Skawska NORBOO BOBBY DAZZLER OF MAPIMAKASTAR (Shih Tzu)

A pleasing young dog, liked his head and expression with adequate stop. Plenty neck length, strong body and developing nicely in coat. Had a steady smooth gait.

Good head proportions with correct round eye shape. Well placed shoulders and strong body. A confident youngster who excelled on the move.

A strongly built yellow dog, broad skull, intelligent expression. Well constructed throughout with plenty of depth. Moved out on a true stride.

 Good head proportions with good length and kind bright eye. Balanced throughout with an elegance about her. Very sound on the move.

A lively young man who was a little unsettled on the table. Correct head to body ratio and came into his own with his happy sound movement.

An attractive fawn boy, Good head proportions, kind alert expression. Good depth and well angulated behind. Moved with a good free gait.

Bromilow CH WOLIMORB TOP GUN JW (Bichon Frise)

This young dog really caught my eye, he has a super expression, excellent pigmentation with black nose and dark eyes. Has a nicely arched neck and is superbly constructed throughout. He strode out in the rain, a true performer, with ring presence in abundance. He is only a youngster, I am sure he will have a lot more top honours to come. Pleased to award him BIS.

Took reserve in a super line up of youngsters. Loved her head and expression with good width to skull. She has correct height to length ratio and well laid shoulders, with adequate rear angulation. She covered the ground well, shown in lovely coat.

A super veteran, correct head with dark eye, adequate stop. Well of for bone and shown with abundance of coat. So well balanced throughout with strong hindquarters. He never stopped showing even when the rain came down and won BVIS on his superb movement.
