Many thanks to the Lagotto Romagnolo Association, for the invite to judge their Open Show, it was greatly appreciated. I hope that my placings were appreciated and viewed in line with the breed standard.

My concerns on the day were

• coats lacking in full body coverage & not fulfilling all traits of required coat standard

• ratio of length of leg to depth of chest

• energetic movement, as opposed to efficient movement

All of the above are vital breed traits and requirements of keeping the breed fit for function.

1st Sikama Stargazing (Miss Vanessa Wilson)

10 months, white and brown boy, coarser adult guard coat just starting to come through with correct curl. Lovely body proportions for age. Leg to body depth ample to allow for maturity drop of adult male depth of chest, whilst still allowing for correct leg to body ratio, as an adult male. Head to muzzle good proportions & angulations, good stop, but not over pronounced. Prominent nose off a solid muzzle, again of correct length to depth proportions. Tail on stand tendency to show high, topline levelled out on move, with better tail carriage. Little loose in movement, not showing muscle definition of a more mature male, resulting being close on hind. He appears to be a young man who wants to push his owner, which allows for some ‘play time’. On whole a sound puppy , with a future I shall watch.

1ST Bedeslea Prada Paradoxe (Cuddy & Cuddy & Norbury, MrJ, Mrs S, Mrs V.)

15 months Male within height standard. Looked all male with good hind second thigh muscle definition, (one of only a few on the day), moved with effortless ease, no rush or need of speed, to cover ground. Correct lay of shoulder. Strong nose from correct muzzle length to depth, enhancing masculine appearance. Topline also good to set of tail and well balanced underline. Slightly softer coat texture than like, but harsher guard coat just becoming evident. Excellent male nearly best Dog material, just not there yet, but doubt will not be too long to wait. Challenged hard for Res Best Dog, lost out on coat & an already solid male, in his prime.

2nd IR SH CH ValburgLagotto Heaven Devil’s Dance Jt An Ch25,CW25,CJW25 (ATC ATCBB89378HUN) (Mcguire & Mcguire, Ms Grace, Ms Miriam)

1 month left as junior white & brown, finer male. More mature in coat texture, tight ringleted. Good height to length of body ratio, although shorter in leg to body depth , with evident tuck up. Movement has tendency to be stilted and far quicker than I feel comfortable watching for a lagotto.

1st Tigre Di Casa Ghini [ATC BB0924840[ (Webb & Ferguson ,Mrs TA Mrs L)

White/brown roan, with brown mask of good size to standard. Strong in head type, but in correct proportions & not unpleasant for a male. Forelegs dropped straight, from good placement of shoulder, leads into firm topline, although more tuck up for my preference, but not excessively so. Hind muscle, just starting to develop, tail set alert & happy, especially on move.

2nd Arcticbreeze on Vacation (Willot Miss GL)

Brown male, smaller in breed type, with good coat definition, texture, curl and coverage. Head type shorter in muzzle. Square in body shape, but lacking in length of leg to body proportion, with higher tail set. 1st far better front and hind widths and stifle angulations, evident in movement and drive.

3rd Clamerkin Tawney Emperor (Drake, Mrs J)

Coat lacking in full body coverage. Prefer 1&2 front and rear angulations.

1ST Trullalusa November Moon from Mizani [ATC AY06101401] (Ferguson Mrs L)

Solid brown male. Head proportions excellent, with masculine expression. Good shoulder angles with elbows sat tight to ribs, giving correct chest. Firm in top line and tail carriage, to corresponding good hind angulations, set well to floor, with underside leading to an acceptable slight tuck up. Viewed from rear & front all legs set as should be, with tight feet. All this lent to a movement around ring with ease of ground coverage. Presented & handled to perfection.

Best Dog and a comfortable Best In Show

 2ND Arcticbreeze Turbulence at Allsong (Whittick Mr S Mrs L)

White and brown of smaller compact male, typical correct Lagotto proportions & standard. Shorter in muzzle, head type, much enhanced by great eyes and ear carriage. Prominent nose and lips matching on pigmentation. Moved well, happy chap, tail carried well. Presented & handled in excellent condition, coat texture, curl with whole body coverage. My 2nd time judging this dog, and very much same comments shone out in my notes as the 1st time of judging, with exception of attitude - tail never stopped, so happy to be in ring, a pleasure to see.

3rd Mad Max Madiba of Freworth (IMP ITA) JW (Whitworth Mrs.)

Good mover showing good angulation. Head let down with slightly lacking in depth of lower jaw and facial hair. When alert ears carried well and made head more pleasing, but lacking expression, when relaxed.

Moonreed Warbler at Allsong (Whittick Mr S, Mrs B)

Very pretty, young veteran. Ears tad low when relaxed, but when alert enhanced head style. Coat looked a little sparse, as an older bitch, but close up just finer in texture, with sharp distinct tight curls. Slightly longer in loin, with tail set off sloping croup. Sound in profile stance, front angulations complementing that of rear. Moved soundly fore & aft, maybe a little more depth of drive required.

1st Gameglow Toy Story (Cooper Mrs L)

Small white 8 month old, near square in body. Head spoilt by cut/growth over stop. Longer in neck to body proportion, but time yet to fill out. Pleasing set of tail from hind quarters of good angulation. Movement a little jittery, but still a babe.

2nd Il Granaio Dei Malatesta Livia Druusilla (IMP ITA) (Drake Mrs J)

More rangy 7.5 month youngster, coat coming through well, but still very much baby. Longer ears, less alert, takes away laggoto expression. Body type near square, but not yet/stage of growth balanced to neck or rear, giving impression of straighter in stifle. Good tight feet for age, not settled in ring.

1st Bedeslea Pradasphere (Norbury & Adkins-Fry, Mrs V, Mrs C)

15.5 month brown girl, with great coat from afar, with curl definition, if not a tad soft close to. Very pretty face, good head proportions and angles. Pleasing neck and lay of shoulders to firm top line & under line, with shorter tail, set well off croup. Good body shape and proportion, although, prefer slightly longer length of leg to depth of body. Moved sound fore and aft, although just lacking slightly in fitness. Litter sister to my junior dog winner, what a litter to be proud of.

1ST Clamerkin Painted Lady (Drake, Mrs J)

  Finer, pretty bitch, prefer better upper to lower jaw proportion. Coat with good curl, unfortunately thin and not full body coverage. Not so well balanced in body as others today, strong evident underline tuck up.

1ST Made Chianta for Timtaurn (Stephenson, Mrs A)

 Brown roan coat of correct texture and curl detail, pigmentation perfect match. Very pretty, feminine appearance, with correct head proportions. Body square set, showing square to underline, with no excessive tuck up. Maybe prefer ever so slightly longer leg to body proportion (nit picking). Shoulder lay, good into sound front, with tight lay of elbows against chest. Tail set & carriage good, off sound topline. Turn in stifle to hock, good, with straight drop to floor, aiding in a hind movement which effortlessly glided around ring, free from chest through to hind. Attractive in both stand & on move. Presented & shown well.

 2ND Mizani Sebio Iola (Lillicrap, Mrs L)

Brown stronger type of bitch, in body & in head. Good curl over body. Head set well off correct neck and lay of shoulder. With good depth to chest, tad wide in front, thus impression of slightly heavy in chest. Good topline and under line, minimal tuck up. Tail set correct with good stifle angulation, lending to a driving smooth movement, with excellent tail carriage.

3RD 1401 - Allsong Nuova Luna (Whittick Mr S, Mrs B)

  Excelled on move, unfortunately not followed through on stand. Moved free, proud tail carried well, with height, but not excessive.
