Ashfield (Notts) Canine Society

Ashfield CA Open show 20th & 21st September 2025 Held at The Hostess, Sookholme Road, Mansfield.

A venue I have not been to before, and I was pleased when I arrived, the rings were well set out, and the grass was cut short in a triangular pattern. Parking for exhibitors was ring-side. The weather forecast was not too good, which reflected in some absences. Congratulations to the committee for their hard work setting up and the organisation.

Day 1

Borzoi – O. 1. 2 yr brindle male. He projects a good, balanced, although immature. He has a masculine head, which has some clean chiselling, his ears a well placed and neatly folded, holding closely to his neck, which was a good length, his legs have decent bladed bone, slight spring at pasterns, and lovely oval feet. His ribs had a good depth and were slightly oval, reaching almost to his elbows. Gently arched over loin and correct fallaway, his width of thigh was ample and muscular, 2nd thigh and clean, finished with short hocks. On the move, he had a powerful driving action. BoB

Greyhound: PG. 1. Inchydoney Memories Une Virgin Mary Avec Stonelow (impFRA) JW – Sawyer – A striking 2yr old bitch with good flowing lines. This Blue fawn had a lovely head with good chiselling, strong jaw, oval-shaped eye, ample length of neck to very well laid shoulder, good depth, and slightly oval-shaped ribs. Ample muscular loin with quarters in excellent muscular condition. She moved without effort with a low-reaching free stride and powerful driving hind legs. BoB

Special Open Racing & Lure Coursing: 1. Westview Puddles – Prince & Ballentine – Brindle girl of 7yrs, Feminine in head with a dark eye, oval in shape, small rose-shaped ears, fine held neatly to her neck. She had strong white teeth, not really showing any age. Ample length of neck and sufficient chest, her legs were strong, straight, bladed with sufficient muscle, and lovely feet with strong well well-knuckled toes; her topline at times appeared flat. Her hind legs were broad with muscular 2nd thigh and short hocks. She moved at a steady pace with a free, reaching stride. RBoB 2. Heathlawn Darci – Heyman – 4yr girl who was mature, she had a lovely head; her pigmentation was coal black, which framed her eyes, and a gentle expression completed with neat rose ears. Good length of neck flowing into shoulders. Her forechest was not as full, although she had good depth and spring to her ribs. On the move, she was a little untidy in front.

Day 2. A complete contrast to first day. Overnight Storm Gabrielle decided to make an unwelcomed appearance. Unless you had picked up the FB massage you would never have known. Those that were staying on site got out of their warm beds very early cleared away debris, repaired gazebos and tents, ready to start in good time. I take my hat of to them it was a mammoth task and they rose up to the challenge. Congratulations.

Maurice Bellamy Early Bird Veteran Stakes 1. (7-2) 1. Dalmatian - Dallyador Secret Passion for Rovinjdal JW – Wallington -7yr black spotted bitch. She was happy, outgoing, and in super body condition. Pleasing feminine head with a dark eye and complete pigmentation, well-filled chest with ample depth to ribs. She moved very well with a clean, reaching stride and drive from behind. 2. Newfoundland - Northpier’s Non Ducor Duco (Imp USA) – Downing & Seastrom – A very striking Black and white. Broad head with slight arch to crown, good depth to muzzle, large nose with wide open nostrils. Muscular neck, Plenty of bone throughout. He moved out with the greatest of ease on large, rounded feet. It was a close decision 3. Cavelier King Charles Spaniel – Featheralls Double Take – Collier

French Bulldog P. 1. Plominska & Kil – Bestfrenchie Berta – Black brindle of 7 months. Feminine girl with a typical compact cobby shape and plenty of bone. Her head was squarish with an appealing expression from dark, round eyes, high-set bat ears of medium size, wide open, facing forward. Her mouth was slightly undershot with strong, regular teeth. A muscular neck with a slight arch into shoulders, her chest was deep, and her ribs had sufficient spring. She moved very well for her age BP. 2. Hutchinson – Aldhammill’s Checkmate for Oschalben – Slightly older puppy Pied Brindle, slightly longer in body. Well boned with decent width to chest, I would prefer a little more strength in her pasterns. Her underline was clean with sufficient hind angulation. Jr. 1. Plominska & Kil – Narcyz Z Lipkowego Rancza at Bestfrenchie (Imp Pol) – Pied Brindle – Masculine head strong and squarish, well-developed cheeks, high set bat ears clean and open. Muscular neck into shoulder, ample bone and small compact feet, clean tucked-up short loin muscular with a gentle rise. He moved at a steady free free-flowing pace. 2. Wood – Zimblistic Spooky Charm Delightbull – Masculine in appearance with a good overall compact balance. He had a decent head with clean, round eyes; I preferred the length muzzle on the class winner. Good spring of ribs and short loin. He moved well. 3. Commins-Nash & Nash – Oschalben Odette PG. 1. Westmorland – Gailbulls Its Edith – A decent girl not as compact as I would like, strong bone, well-sprung ribs reaching nicely back. 2. Plominska & Kil – Bestfrenchie Amnezja – 4yr Brindle girl. She had a better head than winner although a little too compact. 3. Turner – Boule and One A Kaiser Chief at Valabops O. 1. Hutchinson – Oschalben Olympus – 14 months, he has been very well schooled or possibly the exuberance of the handler. What ever it was it did the trick. He was on his toes showing really well his head was clean and well-defined stop, clean round eyes and wide-open bat ears. Sufficient length of neck strong well boned legs to small round feet. His chest was full with well sprung ribs and a short muscular loin with slight rise. Enough hind angulation to give him a steady gait. BoB 2. Westmorland – Ravenside Indian Summer at Gailbulls – This mature girl had seen it all before and was reluctant to show giving her handler a hard time. Overall compact and nicely boned.
