Mansfield & District Canine Society

Breed: Afghan, Beagle, Whippet

Mansfield & District Canine Society open show held at Hillstown Village Hall, Bolsover, Sunday 10th August 2025.

It was a lovely day; the sun was out, and exhibitors had come along with gazebos and space blankets to help shade the dogs. The show was well organised with shelter for the stewards and good-sized rings for exhibits.

Afghan Hounds: P. 1. Cloudside Prince of Light – Mr & Mrs Kidd -A nicely sized boy for his age, although I wouldn’t want him to get much taller. His skull was long with a slight stop, his dark eyes and almost triangular slanting slightly upwards from the outer corner. His expression was aloof and dignified, muscular neck to carry his head proudly and strong, straight legs; his chest needed to develop more and fill out. He had depth to his ribs and a slight spring to them. I liked how he moved out with a smooth, springy action. O. 1. Shimalma Drambuie Isjulees – Mr Drage – A mature boy 4.5yrs. His head was masculine with a well-shaped dark eye, a length of muzzle with some chiselling, a muscular neck to carry his head proudly, which was of enough length into shoulders that had a reasonable lay back. Strong bone to large, round feet covered in hair. His topline was firm and broad, and ample width to hipbones. I found him a little long in loin. He was in pleasing muscle condition and moved at a steady speed.

Beagle. P. 1. Blunderhall Jackson – Hardisty – 8-month Tri colour. He was sturdy and well-grown, his head had almost equal skull to muzzle with a slight stop, his head finished with a black nose and wide-open nostrils. Enough length of neck with arch his shoulders were nicely laid back and straight round bone to legs ending with tight round feet. His topline was strong and short muscular loin. His hind angulation matched his fore. He reached out and drove from behind with a free long stride. Rundle Forever Country – Dawson & Goodall – A very raw puppy at just 6 months. She was very appealing with a soft gentle expression. Her head had suitable proportions and balance. Her chest was appropriately filled with ample depth. Her bone was strong and round although needed some work to strengthen her pasterns. One for the future. Jr. Rundle Gambler – Dawson & Goodall – Litter brother to the bitxh in puppy. Very similar in build and substance equally appealing expression although in masculine form, large dark eyes that were alert and set well apart. He had ample strong bone and strong pasterns. His topline was held well on the move and finished with a high set tail finished with a white tip. 2. Vigor Luscious – Smith – A tri coloured girl of decent proportions, she was finer in bone. Her ears were fine and supple reaching well forward the best ears today, her topline was firm and muscular with strong short loin. On the move she didn’t quite reach as forward which gave her a slightly snappy stride.

Whippet. P.1. Mr Nibbles of the Mistal – Davison - This young boy was 7months and excited to please his handler. He was fine in bone and needed a little time to fill out more. His head was long and lean with a slight stop, bright oval shaped eyes and his ears were small and fine. Enough length to his neck and arch over loin. He moved out on oval feet that had well split up toes BP. Jr. 1. Edenwhip Harvest Moon – Wood – A young girl not long out of puppy. Lovely feminine girl with a clean dark eye oval in shape, she had ample under jaw and a chest with ample fill it it for her age and development. Her loin was strong and muscular; on the move she was steady and true. BoB 2. Flerrow Rydings Romances – Hope – A nice masculine boy of good size. I would like his chest with a little more fill although it had depth to elbows. His legs had bladed bone and his feet were oval. O. 1. Demerlay On a Promise – Hope – A fully mature boy with a head of pleasing proportions with a flat skull, he held his fine ears back in a rose shape close to his neck which was muscular and flowing into his topline which had a slight rise over his loin. His brisket was deep reaching to his elbows and he has ample bladed bone. On the move he was free and driving. Judge Janet Kay
