Redditch & District Canine Society

Firstly I’d like to thank the committee of Redditch & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge today. Secondly, a massive thank you to all the exhibitors who entered and supported my judging appointment, especially those who had a long day and waited until the end. Thankyou for the great sportsmanship in my decisions from the majority of the exhibitors. 

Thanks to Mary Grove, my steward who kept proceedings running smoothly and kept me hydrated. Would have liked a larger ring as pointers do need it to show their movement off better. 

I had some tough decisions to make with some beautiful dogs in front of me, I just wish I had more red cards to give out. 

Pointers 

Puppy (Entries: 5, Absent 0) This class was by far my favourite as it was full of beautiful puppy’s, I just wish I could have awarded more first places as my top 2 made it very difficult for me.

1st Sonham Just Because (Ms KJ Beston & Mr MP Smith) 6 month B/W dog. From when he made his entrance into the ring he caught my eye. A very raw puppy full of energy which I love to see in one so young. He has correct eyes & ears with a very kind expression. Shapely with a lovely angulated front, with good feet & pasterns. Just needs to drop into the chest. Lovely top line which was held on the move with good driving action. A very happy boy who’s tail never stopped. I will watch his career with interest. Although he wasn’t placed in the puppy group he clearly had a good time. BP

2nd Teisgol Sweet William (Mr P & Mrs D Stilgoe & Mrs L Fox) 8 ½ month O/W dog. Different to 1, very mature for his age. Lovely head with well defined stop, with kind eyes. Long neck leading to clean shoulders. Pasterns slightly sloping into good feet. Good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. Super top line, again held on the move with a bee sting lashing tail. Another puppy who has a bright future. I preferred the front of my winner.

Junior (Entries: 8, Absent 4)

1st Millpoint Watson (Mrs JM Harrison) 15 ½ month B/W dog. A young dog that made his presence known in the ring. I have been admiring him for a while so I was delighted to get my hands on him today. Very well balanced with a beautiful head with the most kind expression with bright eyes. Well defined stop and occipital bone. Brisket well let down with well sprung ribs. Forelegs straight and firm leading to sloping pasterns. Moved with drive from his back end, holding his top line while lashing his tail. I was delighted to discover that he gained his final JW point today and was a worthy RBOB

2nd Teisgol Rose Champion ((Mr PR Stilgoe, Mrs DE Stilgoe & Mrs L Fox) 8 ½ month O/W bitch litter sister to 2nd Puppy. Not as mature as 1, she has a lovely curvy outline. She is a pretty girl with a good size head with correct eye colour and good ear set. Well laid back shoulders, she just needs to drop into the chest. I liked her front angulation and had a good turn of stifle. She moved well for her age, maintaining her top line. Another happy puppy in the ring. Preferred the movement and front of my winner.

Post Graduate (Entries: 5, Absent 1)

1st Millpoint Golden Pippin JW (Ms A Brooksmith) 2 year 3 months O/W bitch. Really liked this girl when she came into the ring. She had a lovely kind expression and gentle eyes. Good long neck leading to shoulders. Lovely deep brisket and a good forechest. Forelegs straight with sloping pasterns and tight feet. Good muscle tone and moved effortlessly around the ring maintaining her top line. She pushed for my RBIB today. 

2nd Lithespirit Daisy Hamilton (Miss C Lake) 2 years 9 months LIV/W bitch. A very feminine girl with a pleasing head. Very well balanced with good angulation and she moved with drive around the ring. Good clean shoulders and plenty of heart room. Hocks well let down and good muscle tone. Preferred the movement of my winner.

Open (Entries: 6, Absent 4) 

These two stood out for me today in the class line up. It was a very hard choice. 

1st SH CH Teisgol Love Is In The Air (Miss ME Oliver, Mr PR & Mrs DE Stilgo) 4 years 8 months O/W Dog. Another dog I have admired for a while and was pleased to get my hands on. This boy is very well balanced and of good size. He has a good proportioned head, with a kind eye. Neck is muscular leading to well laid back shoulders. Good deep chest and well sprung rib, a super front. Good angulation which helps him power around the ring. This boy is definitely fit for purpose. Proud to award BOB and then see him go Gundog Group 3.

2nd Millpoint Some Like it Hot (Mrs RI Swan) 7 years 4 months B/W Bitch. A very elegant feminine bitch. At 7 years old she still moves with drive and reach while maintaining her top line with a lashing tail. She has a kind expression with correct eyes, and a good ear set. Her shoulders are well placed, with a well let down brisket. She has a lovely front with her forelegs straight and firm leading to slightly sloping pasterns. Well turned stifle and her hocks are well down. Preferred the muscle tone of my winner, but on another day they could have swapped places.

Puppy (Entries: 2, Absent 0)

1st Mariank First Lady Of Suttonpark (Miss D Bray) 8 month yellow bitch. What a young happy girl she was. Head of correct proportions with a defined stop. Good clean neck leading to well placed shoulders. Good forelegs and compact feet, with a good turn of stifle. Tail never stopped. Happy to award BP.

2nd Centenalee Lola at Bearstone (Mrs AJ Edwards) 6 month black bitch. Another happy girl in the ring whose tail never stopped. Kind eyes of correct colour, ears set well back. Well placed shoulders into well boned legs. Preferred the tail carriage of my winner.

1st Frewlings Justin Rose at Bearstone (Mrs AJ Edwards) 16 month black dog. I liked him as soon as he came into the ring. Well balanced with a good head of correct proportions. Neck set on well placed shoulders, with a good forechest and well sprung rib. Held his top line on the move and hocks well let down. RBOB

2nd Rochevale Beal (Mr M Foster) 16 month yellow dog. Another young boy who was well balanced. Masculine head leading to a clean neck. Well sprung rib with a level top line and good turn of stifle. Preferred the front of my winner.

1st Rochevale Palm Reader JW (Miss ZR Davis) 2 years 7 months black bitch. A very well presented bitch with a lovely kind expression. Good clean neck onto well placed shoulders. Loved the front of this girl, well barrelled ribs and tight padded feet. Well set tail and moved well with a good turn of stifle. Pleased to award BOB and delighted she was short listed in the group.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever

I am really pleased with the total number of entries I received in the breed today. I have admired Nova Scotia’s for a while so I was happy to get my hands on so many. It was a very long day and I’m grateful that so many of you stayed until the classes were completed.

Puppy (Entries: 5, Absent 1) 

1st Wakaduze Dotame (Miss P Hunt) 10 month bitch. A pretty girl who has a pleasing wedge shaped head with kind almond shaped eyes. Muscled neck into well laid back shoulders. Level top line with well set tail. Good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. A happy girl on the move with good reach and held her head well. Happy to award BP

2nd Eusanti Redora (Miss PA Rogers) 6 month bitch. A puppy very well balanced for her age. Head of good size and shape with kind almond eyes and well set ears. She has a good forechest and well laid back shoulders into straight forelegs with tight padded feet. Good rear angulation, and carried her top line well on the move. She pushed my winner hard today, just felt she didn’t move as well as my winner. 

Junior (Entries: 5, Absent 0) 

This was a very hard class to judge today. On any other day placings could have been different.

1st Travelda’s Genevieve Pine Avec Eusanit (imp USA) (Mrs T M & Miss S Westwood) 11 month bitch. This young girl has a beautiful outline, and I really liked her pretty face, correctly shaped head with almond eyes and ears set high. A well muscled neck and good top line. She has good front & rear angulation. Well sprung ribs and moved with drive.

2nd Eusanit What The Fuggle Roanjora (Mrs T Westwood Miss S & Miss R McDonald) 14 month bitch. A lovely young girl who pushed my class winner hard today. Lovely head with an alert look in her almond shaped eyes. Slightly sloping pasterns into round tight padded feet. Good tail set and happy on the move. Preferred the front of my class winner.

Post Graduate (Entries: 4, Absent 1)

1st Gingafing Forget Me Not ( Miss R Tester) 4 years 7 months bitch. A feminine bitch with a pleasing outline, correct head shape with kind eyes and good lips. I really liked her front and she had a lovely deep chest with well sprung ribs. Tail set on a slightly sloping croup reaching the hocks. Moved well around the ring with her handler.

1st IR SH CH Eusanit Proper Job JW (Mrs T M & Miss S Westwood) 4 years 5 months Dog. My notes say “excellent example” This dog needs to be gone over to be appreciated. He has a masculine head with kind friendly eyes, ears set high and well back. Superb angulation at front and rear and a good solid top line. His coat is shown in excellent condition. He powered around the ring with reach and drive. Pleased to award him BOB, sorry he couldn’t stay for the group.

2nd Tollisty Moët En Chandon JW (Mrs A Jenkins) 3 years 5 month Dog. This boy was unfortunate to come against my class winner today. He had a very appealing head with kind eyes. Good muscled neck into well laid back shoulders. Good angulation at front and rear and this helped him moved around the ring with ease. He has a good deep chest and ribs are well sprung. Preferred my winners movement today. Happy to award RBOB

Junior (Entries: 3, Absent 1)

1st Cobhay Dashing Dandelion JW (Mrs J Williams & Mrs D & Miss P Toublic) 17 month LIV/W dog. Young boy who had a pleasing masculine head and correct eye colour, with a kind expression. Good length of neck leading to well laid shoulders. Well sprung rib with a deep chest, tail carried correctly and with a lively action on the move. Good angulation. Happy to award BOB and see him short listed in gundog group.

2nd Cobhay Heavenly Hydrangea (Mrs J Williams & Mrs D & Miss P Toublic) 17 month LIV/W bitch. Litter sister to my class winner. Very similar to her brother, and well balanced. A very pretty feminine head with nicely feathered ears. Good clean neck, well sprung ribs and good depth of chest. Good reach on the move and a lively tail. Preferred the confidence of her brother today.

1st Chanangel When You Believe At Sherona (Mrs SDE Frusher & Miss MD Slack) 2 years 9 months LIV/W bitch. A lovely bitch with a well proportioned feminine head with a kind expression. Well laid shoulders, a deep chest with well sprung ribs. Really like how symmetrical she looked on the stack. Hocks driving under her body on the move.

1st Dexbenella Fenella At Shersona (Mrs S Frusher) 5 years 5 months LIV/W Bitch. A lovely bitch with a good symmetrical shape to her. Good angulation front and rear with a deep chest and well sprung rib. Moved with drive around the ring maintaining her top line and a lively tail. Pleased to award her RBOB.

2nd Russell At Cumani (IMP ITA) Mrs L Fugle 3 year old LIV/W dog. Really liked the head on this boy, kind expression with correct eye colour, well set ears. Clean neck into shoulders. Forelegs straight and well boned, flexible pasterns and tight feet. Well muscled thighs and moved with drive. Preferred the more symmetrical shape of my winner.
