English Setters

My thanks to the Club for the invitation to judge, my stewards and to the ESA for sponsoring the classes. Unfortunately, there were some absentees due to the dreaded kennel cough but a lovely quality entry remained.

Puppy (3,1)

Two lovely babies who would easily change place on another day. I understand it was their first show for both of them, so the tension was palpable and this clearly transmitted itself down the lead. We all had to start somewhere - it will only get better from here-on in!

1st Linskey, Miss E L’s Latjeata Pavane 6 month pretty tri bitch. Sweet feminine head and expression, dark eye. Clean neck into well placed shoulders. Good bone and feet. Nice outline when she did stand still. Correct body proportions and tail set. Moved erratically. B.P.

2nd Hull & Moore, Mr J and Miss R’s Dalreavoch Glory Days 9 month o/b boy. Handsome masculine head with dark eye, deep, square muzzle and low set ears. Shoulders well laid back and deep chest. Good bone and feet. An abundance of silky coat which would benefit from a little more trimming and flattening to get it under control. Also moved erratically.

Novice (5, 2)

1st Stronach, Mrs S’s Mariglen Escape to Victory 17 month Very handsome light b/b who has the most appealing head with plenty of work, deep square muzzle and melting expression. So masculine without a trace of coarseness. Nice long neck into well laid shoulders. Elbows well let down. Deep chest. Held his topline well on the move and lovely lashing tail action. Plenty of silky, straight coat. His owner just needs to avoid over stretching him when stacking, as this spoils his topline.

2 Hull& Moore’s D Glory Days as above but much more settled in this class. Stood and moved better than in previous class.

3 Nolan, Mrs E A’s Balvenie Loch Scye. Unfortunate to meet the two boys in full coat.

Graduate (6,3)

1st Kemp-Taylor, Mrs H’s Quensha’s Strawberry Swing 3 yr old Pretty Tri bitch with well defined head and dark eyes. Low set ears. Decent length of neck and well laid shoulders, short coupled, deep chested and well ribbed up. Nicely arched strong loins. Very good bone and feet. Moved soundly with lashing tail action. R.B.O.B

2nd Stronach’s M Escape to Victory.

3rd Forrest, Mrs A M’s Elvistar Private Dancer.

Open (3,1)

Two beautiful bitches who I’m sure will change place on many occasions.

1st Prest, Miss A’s Caleydene Comet sweet 3 yr old o/b bitch who is elegance personified. Very well presented and sympathetically handled. Feminine, well-proportioned head with kind dark eyes. Good long neck and well laid shoulders. Elbows well let down, deep chest. Stifles well bent and well muscled second thighs. Correct body proportions and level topline. An abundance of good quality coat. Good bone and feet. Moved at one with her handler. Had the edge over 2nd on maturity and movement B.O.B

2nd Gardner, Miss T’s Mariglen Midnight Muse of Danwish another sweet 2 yr old bitch who has everything in the right place. Very feminine, correctly proportioned head. Low set ears. Long neck into well laid shoulders. Good depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Short over the loins. Good tailset which she used well on the move. Flashy markings.
