Yeovil & District Canine Society

Breed: French Bulldog

Thank to Yeovil & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge their Open Show. Thankfully the weather stayed good, albeit windy, but a lovely location to hold a dog show. Thank you to all the exhibitors who chose to come under me as their judge; this was my first Open show appointment for these breeds, so I appreciate all my entries of lovely dogs. It was a little difficult to judge the movement of the dogs today with the slightly longer grass, but I tried to get the dogs to move as much as possible to give them the best chance.

P (1,1) 1 Hucker’s OSCHALBEN OLISSA AT BEVANRAY, 7-month-old Brindle Bitch. A very promising puppy of good type, standing alone in the class but certainly worthy of the placement. A compact and solid build with good bone for its age. The head and skull are developing nicely, with a well-defined stop evident. Body is cobby, and showed good angulation. Movement was fairly good considering the uneven terrain. A puppy with many pleasing qualities and one to watch as this bitch matures. Was a tough choice for RBOB, but was just slightly beaten by maturity. BPIB. Great to see this puppy go on to take PG3, well deserved.

J (2,1) 1 Hucker’s BEVANRAY ASPARAGUS, 13-month-old Fawn Bitch. A pleasing example of the breed, with a good head and skull in proportion to size. The body is well-developed, cobby and has a sturdy and compact build. A good proportionate size, although size is not outlined for this breed, but showing good maturity. Good bone and muscle are evident throughout. Movement was okay. RBOB. 2 Hucker’s BESTFRENCHIE HENIA AT BEVANRAY 16-month-old Pied Bitch. Good head and skull, displaying the desired breed characteristics. I preferred the “bat” ears on this one compared to first, and they were well-set. This bitch was well muscled and had a fairly sturdy appearance. However, the feet were not as compact as preferred, and the movement was slightly unsettled today. However, the result could have been easily different on a given day.

G (1,1) Barrett’s FRENCHPRIDE’S DAY DREAMING, 22-month old Dark Bridle Bitch. This bitch exhibits a good head and skull, in proportion to size. While the eyes are set slightly wider apart than preferred, and unfortunately the tongue did protrude today, along with being a touch more undershot than ideal, the dog possesses many positive qualities. Forequarters are good, with a nice rise over the loin. Body is also very well-developed, cobby and compact, sturdy and good bone. Movement was also good and showed soundness on the move.

O (4,2) French’s BINCOMBEFARM SERPENSORTIA JW, 23-month-old Pied Bitch. This bitch is a lovely example of the breed with an excellent general appearance. The head was particularly pleasing, and the ears were well-shaped and correctly set. She is very cobby in body, with a nice rise over the loin, contributing to a lovely outline. Movement was really good, free and flowing. BOB. 2 Hucker’s CH BEVANRAY TERRYPENDRY JW, 2 year old Pied Dog. A nice head and skull, but preferred the overall appearance of first place. However, the dog is very cobby in body, well muscular and presents a lovely outline that is highly desirable for the breed. Movement was okay today, and overall, it is easy to see how this dog gained a champion title. 3 French’s BINCOMBEFARM MORSMORDRE JW.
