Newton Abbot & South Devon Canine Society

Breed: Retriever (Golden)

I would like to thank Newton Abbot and South Devon Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge. This was my first time officiating for the breeds scheduled as well as the handling classes, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My thanks also go to the committee for their warm hospitality, the venue for an excellent lunch, and to my two efficient stewards who kept the ring running smoothly. I was extremely pleased with the overall quality of both my dog and handling entries and would like to thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. I did not find any major faults in the dogs on the day and was delighted with the standard presented.

Retriever (Golden): P (1,1) 1 Winterburn-Brannick's CHARWILDAN DOLLY DIAMOND. 10-month-old B, still very much a puppy with typical youthful characteristics. Pleasing head and skull with sweet expression. Topline not yet fully settled, but acceptable at this stage of development. Fore and hindquarters coming along nicely. Good coat. A little unsettled on the move today but promising for the future. BPIB. G (9,3) 1 Winsor-Williams & Williams's AURGENTIOUS MENA DHU. 16-month-old D of lovely overall appearance. Broad head with pleasing skull, well set neck and clean forequarters. Level topline, well coated and of good temperament. Movement not his strongest feature today but was sound enough. A very nice youngster with much to like. 2 Hurrell's KADAKA KING OF KLAY. 11-month-old D showing many good breed characteristics. Attractive head and expression with nice forequarters. Would benefit from a little more muscle in the hindquarters to complete the picture. Tail set on well. Moved out steadily and true. 3 Scuffle & Ennis Van Maren's RAMCHAINE A RED RED ROSE. L (8,1) 1 Collis's TILLSUN MISTLETOE PROMISES. 23-month-old B of great quality and presence who really caught my eye. Feminine yet balanced head and skull, excellent forequarters and topline, well set tail and in good coat. Slightly smaller in frame, as expected for a bitch, but very well proportioned throughout. Shown in lovely condition and presented a very pleasing overall picture. RBOB & BB. 2 Winsor-Williams & Williams's AURGENTIOUS MENA DHU. 3 Porter's SHEARSTONE HASTA LA VISTA. O (6,5) 1 Coad's TINKERSROC BON BON. 4-year-old D of pleasing overall appearance. Attractive head and skull, well balanced fore and hindquarters. Tail set a touch higher than preferred, but otherwise well made. Initially unsettled on the move but settled down to show sound movement with a steady stride. Nicely presented. BOB. 2 Winsor-Williams & Williams's AURGENTIOUS ROS AN GWEL. 16-month-old B of lovely type with feminine head and good mouth. Still maturing in body, as expected at this age, but well angulated behind with good topline held on the move. Quality coat. 3 Collis & Tregaskis's RENDEZ VOUS AVEC STEVAL DU BOIS DE LA RAYERE (IMP FRA).
