Yeovil & District Canine Society

Breed: Alaskan Malamute

Thank to Yeovil & District Canine Society for inviting me to judge their Open Show. Thankfully the weather stayed good, albeit windy, but a lovely location to hold a dog show. Thank you to all the exhibitors who chose to come under me as their judge; this was my first Open show appointment for these breeds, so I appreciate all my entries of lovely dogs. It was a little difficult to judge the movement of the dogs today with the slightly longer grass, but I tried to get the dogs to move as much as possible to give them the best chance.

G (1,0) 1 Smith’s SNOWSHOES LIGHT THE WAY, 9-month-old Wolf Grey & White Bitch. A bitch of good type and substance. The head and skull are in proportion to size, with a pleasing expression. Forequarters are well-developed, and the body has good depth and strength. Hindquarters show promising angulation and reach, showing powerful drive. Tail set correct and carried well. While a little unsettled on the move in the class, this improved in the challenge for Best of Breed. Lacking a little in coat today, but this does not detract from the dog's sound conformation and overall quality. RBOB, BPIB. Really pleased to see this go on and take PG1 and then to take RBPIS!

O (1,0) 1 Smith’s CH CASH THE CHECK SHAMANROCK AT SNOWSHOES (IMP CZE) JW, 2 year old Dark Wolf Grey & White Dog. A truly outstanding example of the breed, which most definitely gave off the wow factor. I last went over this dog around two years ago, as a puppy, and he really has matured amazingly. Heavily boned, powerfully built and the head and skull are excellent, perfectly in proportion. Both fore and hindquarters are strong and well-angulated. Movement was very good, even on the undulated ground, and made its way round the whole ring effortlessly and tirelessly. The coat is lovely, dense and of correct texture. The tail is a little tight but carried correctly on the move. The overall quality of this dog was sufficient to award BOB, and great to see that it also went on to take G2.
