Newton Abbot & South Devon Canine Society

Breed: Junior Handling

I would like to thank Newton Abbot and South Devon Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge. This was my first time officiating for the breeds scheduled as well as the handling classes, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My thanks also go to the committee for their warm hospitality, the venue for an excellent lunch, and to my two efficient stewards who kept the ring running smoothly. I was extremely pleased with the overall quality of both my dog and handling entries and would like to thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. I did not find any major faults in the dogs on the day and was delighted with the standard presented.

Junior Handling: Class A (6–11 years) (5,5) 1 KAYCEE-MAY TURTON. Gave a very polished performance. Always ensured an unobstructed view of the dog. Movement shown at a good pace, with well-executed pattern work, though corners could be a touch tidier. Stacked the dog well and demonstrated awareness of groupwork, making sure others were ready before moving. Showed good rapport and sportsmanship throughout. 2 EVIE-MAY SMART. Another capable young handler who presented the dog clearly with unobstructed view. Moved well with tidy corners, and individual pattern work was confidently carried out. Stacked the dog well, though try not to worry if the dog moves. In groupwork, could have allowed a little more space when returning to the group stack. Good rapport with the dog and pleasing sportsmanship. 3 LUKE SAUNDERS. Showed a steady performance with clear presentation of the dog. Movement would have been improved with the lead lifted slightly on the dog, but otherwise patterns were well carried out. Stacked the dog correctly and managed groupwork efficiently. Sportsmanship and rapport very good, and nice to see appreciation of the award. Class B (12–16 years) (9,1) 1 LULA STOWER. A very polished and confident performance. Always ensured an unobstructed view, with very good movement shown at the correct pace. Excellent stacking and standing, and groupwork was particularly impressive, making sure all exhibitors were ready before moving. Individual pattern work was perfect. Very good sportsmanship and rapport with the dog throughout. 2 LUCAS SMART Another capable handler who presented with clarity and style. Unobstructed view maintained, with good movement and very good stacking. Groupwork was again excellent, showing consideration for others and ensuring readiness before moving. Individual assessment and pattern work carried out without fault. Sportsmanship and rapport were both very good. 3 THOMAS TAYLOR. Displayed excellent awareness of unobstructed view and presented his dog with confidence. Movement was steady, stacking very good, and groupwork conducted at a pleasing pace. Individual assessment and pattern work were very good, showing a clear understanding of how best to present the breed. Lovely rapport with the dog and great sportsmanship.
