Ashfield Canine Society Premier Open Show

Day 1 Saturday 20th September 2025

I would like to thank the Committee of this excellently run show for affording me the honour of judging at this year's show. I would also like to thank my wonderful steward for her work in keeping the ring running so smoothly.

HOUND GROUP

1ST –Skaboullos' Cunninghams Aveline for Trailtracker (imp Deu) Black & Tan Coonhound.

Stunning young lady that took my eye the first time I was her. She has a beautiful clean head, correct low set ear with good length of leather. Strong neck into correctly angulated front. Well sprung ribs and good length of loin. Level top line which was held on the move, correct tail set and carriage. Correctly angulated rear end which gave her such drive on the move. Her movement was a joy to behold with effortless ground covering long strides. I was over the moon when she also went Reserve Best In Show and Reserve Best Import Breeds In Show the following day.

2 Searle & Rawlinsons Refton Tibalt at Whipsearle JW CW25 (Imp Esp) Whippet

Very nice dog with lovely head and expression, Long neck into well laid back shoulders. Correct top line and slope to croup. Good depth of chest. Correct rear angulation. Well muscled throughout. Moved very well considering the terrible weather.

HOUND PUPPY GROUP

1 Hudsons’ Sitana Miss Marvel. Afghan Hound

Beautiful young lady with lovely head, Correctly set ears. Long neck leading into correctly angulated front, Correct top line which was held on the move, good tail set and ring to tail. Well angulated rear. Lovely smooth movement with good ground coverage. Her coat was correct for age and of lovely quality.

2 Melbourn & Murrey’s Diheath Cracker – Basset Hound.

Lovely young man of great quality and soundness. Noble head with lovely expression. Good ear set and length. Correct front and rear angles. Deep chest with prominent breast bone. His topline was held well on the move and it was in moving that you could see his quality – he powered round the ring with purposeful movement.

Nice head and expression. Good neck into correct front. Correct top line, Good rear angulation. Correct tail set and ring. Lovely coat which is at correct stage for age. Moved very well.

Nice male with good coat. Nice head and ear set, long neck into nicely angulated front. Level topline held on the move. Good rear angulation. Well muscled and moved well.

Nice girl with lovely head. Good length to neck. Correct top line and correct angles front and rear. Nice coat. Moved well.

6 month old young girl with lovely head and expression. Well laid shoulders with correct return of upper arm. Level top line and good rear angulation. Tail set correct. Movement is a bit loose as one would expect from a puppy of this age.

2 Dasone & Goodalls Rundle Forever Country

Nice 6 month old young lady with good head and expression, good front end with good bone, nice top line and rear angles. Correct tailset and carriage. Moved well

10 month old male with lovely head. Correct front and rear assembly. Level top line with correct tail set. Well muscled with lovely reach and drive when moving. RBOB

2 Smiths Vigor Luscious

14mth old female. lovely appealing head and expression. Balanced throughout. Good top line and tail set. moved well.

1 Cotes Gladstyle Blue Bell

6 month old female that has such a melting expression. For one so young she is so composed. Very well made throughout and so typical. Her movement was collected and correct. with good ground coverage. BOB & BPIB

Puppy – 3

1 Bell-Ashe Haziannes Knights Crusader

8 month old male – very noble head and carrying great bone. He held a level top line on the move and had good ground coverage when moving due to correct front and rear angles. I was impressed by his overall balance and soundness which I hope he maintains as he matures.

2 Harris Haziannes Knights Templar at Sullyenda.

Litter brother to 1 and the same comments apply. He was just looser on movement due to his larger frame. With time these 2 will be swapping places.

1 Stanton & Latham Bonafortes Golden Voyager from Dainwolf

This 15 month old male was very unsettled due to having a different handler to normal. He has a good head and expression and is well angulated front and back. His coat needs attention however has the correct texture. I saw flashes of good movement but he was not happy with his change of handler.

3 year old majestic hound with lovely head. Good neck into well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. Deep chest. Good topline, Great bone. Moved powerfully round the ring.

2 Dawsons Hydbeck Tyme to Love at Graefyn

19 month old that still needs to mature Nice head and expression, Powerful neck into good front end. Good top line. Free and easy movement.

Very handsome hound with majestic head and very appealing expression. Well made throughout and moved with such ease and grace. BOB

2 Dawsons Hydebeck Heart of Gold at Greafyn

Nice hound with good bone. Good angles fore and aft. Good bone just didn't cover the ground as well as 1.

Nice young hound with lovely head and expression. Ears are set on correctly with good fold. Good neck into well laid back shoulder with good length of upper arm. Level top line with good tail set. Moves well and has good walk to trot transition. RBOB

2 Porters Ottaryx Angel.

Just 12 months and still has a long way to go. She is coming together well and most of the above comments also apply to her. She just needs to mature.

Lovely feminine hound with good head with good furnishings. Correct eye colour and shape, Correct ear set with required fold. Good front and rear angulation. Level top line which was held on the move. Tail is placed on and carried correctly. Nice coat length and texture. Good movement with lovely walk to trot transition. BOB Hound Group 3 and Best AV Veteran Hound.

My star of the day and Hound Group winner who also went on to win Res Best In Show and Res Best Import Register in Show. She is all hound, all grace, all strength and I fell in love with her. She is the first B & T Coonhound in the UK to win the above awards and I am sure that she will only get better as she matures. Huge Congratulations to her owner and breeder.

1 Lloyds U’Desiree De La Chaume a Rate at Ninebark Grand Bleu De Gascogne

This hound was not happy today. She has a nice head and expression with correct ear placement. Her bone structure is correct however she needs more weight on her. I should not have been able to see her ribbing, spine or pin bones but they were quite evident. Her movement was erratic, but she could have been unsettled by the weather. Res Best Import Register Hound.

Very raw 7 month old with nice head and expression. Coat is correct for age with good texture. Moved well

Lovley feminine girl with lovely head and expression. Powerful neck into well laid shoulders. Good bone. Held her top line when moving. Good rear angulation. Moved well.

Good head, Good topline correct slope to croupe. Good depth to chest. Well muscled moved well.

Good head, nice front angulation Good prominent keel, Level top line held on the move. Good rear angulation. Moved well.

AV Hound Open Dog

 1 LloydsU’desiree De La Chaume A Rate At Ninebark Borzoi

Nice shaped head, good neck into well laid shoulders. Good top line. Good rear angulation and moved well. However, whilst sight hounds do not carry as much weight as scent hounds this hound needs more weight on it as I could feel all the spine, all ribs and could quite clearly see the pin bones.

Lovley female with beautiful head, Good neck into well laid shoulders. Correct prominent keel, Well ribbed back, Strong correct rear end. Moved very well.

Very handsome 3 year old with noble head and expression. Good strong neck into well angulated front. Good bone. Firm top line. Correct rear angulation. Very well muscled. Moved with great reach and drive – was very happy to see that he went Best of the Reserve Best of Breeds in Show. He also won the MB Early Bird Open Stakes.
