Glen of Imaal Terrier

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for the Society for their kind invitation. I am pleased with my overall entry and thank those exhibitors who have entered their dogs. Many thanks to my ring stewards. The Glen is a terrier with some unique characteristics and I urge anyone embarking on judging this breed to read the breed standard. I have the following concerns. They are a rugged no frills terrier, tidied for the Show ring, silky or over processed coats are not breed standard. To quote the standard once again, a scissor bite is required , accepting less is detrimental to the breed.

Temperaments were exceptional.

Junior

1. Hannington Boudivella Dottie, 8 mths wheaten female who is well grown but retains her femininity. Strong head of good width with round eye of correct colour. Correctly shaped ears .Excellent scissor bite.

Ample bone. Body proportions good standing on good feet with correct turn out. Tail carried gaily. Moved soundly. RBOB & BP.

2. Saletti Jojase Bridie True Blue Blue brindle female of 16mths, still quite raw at the moment but she has much promise. Not the largest Glen but she has ample bone for her size. Lovely feminine head with dark eye giving a gentle expression. Neat rose ears. Well balanced throughout with correct rise over her loin. Excellent coat of correct length & texture.

3. Saletti Jojase Blarney Magic Blue

Limit

1. Saletti Jojase Aisling Pixie 4 year old blue girl who I would describe as a honest Glen . Strong feminine head with good muzzle, darkest of eye and correct mouth with good size teeth. Moderate neck into a correct backline. Standing on good compact feet with correct turn out from pastern. Overall body proportions are correct with ample substance. In full glorious coat today . Presenting a good outline as she moved soundly around the small ring. Best of Breed.

2. Hannington Boudivella Love Story. Wheaten male of 19 mths, still very raw as expected at this age. In profile he is of good breed type so I am interested to see how this boy develops as I would like "more". He is well off for bone , he has a pleasing head with good expression. Moved well but lost out to maturity today.

3. Forbes Boudivella Higher Love For Karensbrae

Open.

Both Veteran girls , a credit to their owners.

1. Forbes CH Jeonty Dreams a Dream with Karensbrae JW ShcM OSW VW Veteran wheaten female of eight and half years in fine fettle defying her years. She is very feminine with correct eye and well placed ears. She has a lovely expression. Good bite.Overall body proportions are correct . Tail carried gaily . The ultimate Show girl she is so well schooled and moves effortlessly around the ring.

2. Saletti Bendikes Fidelma, another veteran of ten and half years young. This girl made me smile, happy to have a day out but disappointed it was a trip to a Show ring. She does not enjoy showing and in typical Glen fashion complies under sufferance. It is a shame as she is of good breed type well proportioned and substantial. Many of her traits she has passed to her daughter the BOB winner today.
