GOLDEN RETRIEVERS

A huge thank you to the Committee for their kind invitation to judge Golden Retrievers at their well run Premier Open Show. A lovely venue, albeit a little chilly, excellent hospitality and very friendly atmosphere. Thank you to my steward who kept things running efficiently. Lastly, a very big thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing your lovely dogs under me and giving me a chance to go over each of them.

Puppy (6 entries, 1 absent)

1. Dean’s PEARLBARN PINK DIAMOND – Nicely balanced pale gold 9 month old young lady who had a lovely appealing head with dark kind eyes and correct ear carriage. She has the darkest of pigment. Correct scissor bite. Good front and rear angulation. Well off for bone. She moved with reach and drive with her tail extending level with her topline. BPIB.

2. Healey’s MARSABIT CELTIC HARP – Lighter pale 11 month old female with lots to like. Liked her overall balance and substance. Stands foursquare on tight catlike feet. Pretty feminine head, dark eye and pigment. Good length of neck into well placed shoulder. She has depth to brisket, tight in elbows and good spring to ribcage. Unfortunately, she was not as settled on the move with her handler today but improved as she progressed through the classes.

3. Ball’s SHEARSTONE LIVE IN THE DREAM AT FIVELMS

Junior (9 entries, 2 absent)

1. Wheeldon & Hurry’s DEWMIST DOLCE VITA WITH CATNNELS (IMP SWE) JW – I have admired this young lady previously from ringside and was thrilled to have the opportunity to go over her. She did not disappoint. She’s maturing nicely. A lovely example of the breed, nothing overdone, well balanced, sweet feminine head, level topline and moved with ease round the ring. I was delighted to award her BOB. I was pleased to hear she was later shortlisted in the group.

2. Cole’s ROOKSBURY AURORA – Another lovely pale girl with a sweet, dreamy expression. Clean through neck onto well laid shoulders. She has good width and depth to chest, close fitting elbows. Good spring of rib. Level topline with short couplings. Well let down hocks. Moved with purpose. RBOB.

3. Healey’s MARSABIT CELTIC HARP

Special Yearling (8 entries, 3 absent)

Novice (4 entries, 1 absent)

1. Healey’s MARSABIT CELTIC HARP – as before

Most appealing masculine head. Clean, muscular neck leading to correct shoulder placement. Level topline. Strong through rear.

3. Tubb’s PAUTERNAPAWS BY THE SEA WITH ALSUTU

Strong neck and topline. Close fitting elbows. Well off for bone. Good spring of rib. Strong rear quarters with good turn of stifle. Positive front and rear action winning him the class.
