Best In Show
Many thanks to the committee for the invite to judge the toy group and BIS. There was a lovely selection of quality specimens in the BIS line up, so many thanks to my co-judges. Firstly, I must mention that the winner of the hound group withdrew their beautiful brindle whippet bitch Johnston and Wilson’s Danluke Drag On a Dime from competition due to my close friendship with both owners and handler. This was an honourable thing and the sport is better for people like this. I am sure that if she had not withdrawn then this would have made the decision making harder. After some deliberation BIS went to the young miniature schnauzer Wellingley Won For The Road. Exciting young pepper and salt male. Immediately made his presence felt on entering the ring. He has a very smart outline which is very typical. Correct shaped head with correct head planes. Neat ears which are well set and lovely dark eye. Good length of neck into well-placed shoulders. Correct front. Well-developed keel. An excellent spring of red which is often lacking. Correct top line for a schnauzer. Good hind quarters. In cracking coat which is harsh and wiry as desired, and which is correctly banded. Its movement is a joy to watch, and he has such good drive from his good hind quarters. If I was being really picky, I would prefer a straighter tail. I think this is a smashing young dog who was an easy winner for me today. I hear that he already has three challenge certificates. I wish him well to achieve his title when he is of age. One of the nicest dogs I have judged for some time, was also best puppy in show today. RBIS was the CKCS Ricksbury Elite. I had judged this young Blenheim male earlier in the day and my critique is below. However, he is another exciting young dog. These two males bode well for a good future for the North East dog scene.
Best Puppy In Show
It could be argued that my competition for best puppy in show was a tighter competition than my best in show. Some really cracking puppies today. BPIS was the BIS winner Wellingley Won For The Road. RBPIS was the WHWT Burneze Maid To Measure. This is another nice prospect. WHWT of the highest order. Pleased in head and expression with lovely dark eye. Neat small ear. Correct front assembly and with good bone and feet. Good depth of chest which is lacking in many Westies. Nice and short. Tail on top. Good harsh jacket. Moved well and just needs to muscle up a fraction in the rear which will come with age. I must mention the tan and white beagle bitch that really impressed and pushed the West Highland white terrier very hard indeed. I wish her well.
