Sub Group Open Show

1 August 2025

Pembroke Welsh Corgis

Thank you to the committee for their kind invitation to judge their show in partnership at Paignton. Particular thanks to the exhibitors for their entries and sporting acceptance of my decisions – especially after the longer wait because of the championship show judging. I thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of going over your dogs. My thanks to the stewards for their organisation and good humour. That all helps to ensure everyone can enjoy their day – I know I did!

Baby Puppy D/B .1.0

1 Davies; Coquetmoss Copper Beech At Ermyn. Loved the typical kind head and emerging masculine expression of this baby. Well-made overall, good reach of neck shoulder angles and developing topline. Good bone overall, nicely muscled with hocks nice and straight. Tight feet. Movement was ok, I hesitate to call it erratic because this was his first time out so a developing expectation here as he matures. A lovely gentle start to the show. Thank you for bringing him!

Minor Puppy Dog 2.0

1 Irving; Twinan The Beat Goes On RBD BPD BP. This 9-month quality youngster appealed visually to me immediately and didn’t disappoint. Correct head, nice and wide on top. Great pigment, eye and ears – the latter scoring highly in terms of the standard. Good reach of neck leading to firm, straight topline which tapered nicely. Well angulated front and rear. Plenty of bone supporting a great outline – everything in the right place which ensured that his movement was true. Lots more to come from him I’m sure and although a well-deserved best puppy, also, plenty of quality to award him the reserve best dog.

2 Irving; Twinan Across My Heart. Nice breed example. Appeared slightly heavier than 1 but much to like about this one too. Good head and overall, well balanced body. Broad in chest and well let down in front. Plenty of bone and correct feet. Whilst movement was ok, I just felt that it to be a little looser compared to 1 but it was by no means erratic.

Junior Dog 1.0

1 Miller & Haslam; Monarchcor Chase Your Dream Avec Meitza (AI) Just over 12 months and a nice example of good size, pleasing head of correct proportions, good eye colour, correct ear set. Showed nice, alert responses. Neck of good length, on good shoulders, chest developing nicely. Level top line, held on the move, well boned, with oval feet. In good coat. Moved around the ring confidently too.

Post Graduate Dog 1.0

1 Jones; Ermyn Storm Ahead. Tri with a typical masculine and kindly head, correct eye and ear set. Fair stretch to body supporting a reasonably level topline but this could do with more presentation work. Has a deep and well ribbed chest with good rear angulation. Well off for bone. Movement was ok and kept his topline when moving at the right pace.

Limit Dog 6.1

1 Roper; Cardigan Bay. Mature, masculine and of good size and bone. Really loved the alert expression just waiting for the next move from his handler. Slightly longer in leg but still balanced overall. Typical head eyes and ear set. Good reach of neck and front angles. Level topline leading to strong and flexible hindquarters which enabled him to score strongly on the move – I liked that indication of energy and stamina and that ensured his first place on the day.

2 Hulse & Adams; Twinan Raise The Bar For Fablecroft JW. Good balance of head – skull and muzzle proportions, good front angles and reach of neck – although I felt that was a shade stuffy on the day. Good length of body with level topline and rear angulation. Moved well with a decent free and active stride.

3 Irving; Born To Be C’est La Vie (IMP HUN)

Open Dog 5.2

1 Wyer; Cottivy Fernando BD BOS. Have judged this dog before and maturity just adds to his many qualities. He is masculine with such a smart and appealing look about him and was a pleasure to go over. Handsome head of correct proportions with good eye shape and colour. Good neck on good shoulders, strong back, well boned, with tight feet. Chest is lovely and deep. Good length of body,, strong and well-muscled. Front and rear angulation is great and supports a free and driving movement with lovely strides. Pleased to award him a well-deserved best dog on the day.

2 Hulse & Adams; Babaneira Kensington At Fablecroft. Now I really liked this typical breed example – striking pose on the floor and table. Masculine head and expression good front and length of body overall. Straight front legs and close-fitting elbows. Great reach of neck leading to level topline. Good feet supporting a well-balanced body. Lost out to 1 on movement only – felt that front movement was slightly rolling on the day and this spoilt a free, forward drive.

3 Davies; Haresfoot Fates Align JW NBT

Veteran Dog 1.1

Minor Puppy Bitch 1.1

Puppy Bitch 1.0

1 Coates; Durrcor Luna Eclipse BPB. Very feminine 9-month R/W bitch. Was so alert and expressive. Super head on a strong neck leading to well-placed shoulders. Level top line and she holds her tail well. Super front assembly and well angulated front and back. Her chest is still developing. She is nicely boned with good tight oval feet. She was so in tune with her handler – didn’t take her eyes off her! Also moved around the ring so well and confidently.

Junior Bitch 4.1

1 Twigg; Monarchcor Never Ending Dream (AI) At 13 months, nicely made and breed typical in profile. Feminine with good head and keen and alert expression, good reach of neck, correct length of body, well sprung ribs and deep chest, balanced front and back. Moved well using hindquarters to drive forward and she kept her topline.

2 Creech; Monarchcor Sweet Dreams At Zydahayes (AI) Litter sister to 1. Again, nicely compact, clean outline – typically fine in profile. Nice head and a lovely soft expression. Plenty of neck reach, muscular and good shoulder angles. Good depth of rib and level topline. I just felt that her movement was not as free as 1 today but she lost her topline on the move.

3 Logie & Braidwood; Twinan Chase The Ribbons

Post Graduate Bitch 5.1

1 Roper; Twinan Raise Your Game. Picture of quality. Correct size, feminine and a lovely expressive head not overdone at all, skull broad and flat, correct ears, eyes, front and rear placement. Good reach of neck, well laid shoulders and well-muscled. Correct feet. She moved well.

2 Creech; Zydahayes Water Lily. Lovely tri. Smaller overall than 1 but well balanced throughout and a lovely profile. Good reach of neck and a level topline. Good front and rear angulation. Correct shape and tight feet.

3 Rutherford; Unita Mentale Khambatta At Potbelli (IMP UKR)

Limit Bitch 3.0

1 Warner; Monarchcor Lady Love JW Super head with correct proportions. Eyes of good shape and colour. Nice flat skull between ears which are set on well. Ample length of neck on well-placed shoulders. Level top line, deep chest, good length of loin. Well angulated front and back. Enough bone with good oval feet. Sound on the move.

2 Creech; Zydahayes Scarlet Image JW. Again, plenty of quality, super head and ears, good front and rear assembly. Reach of neck and clean outline. Felt that she was carrying a shade too much weight . However, good on the move but 1 really had the edge today.

3 Aylott; Holly Pippin At Barwal

Open Bitch 4.0

1 Irving; CH Born To Be Your Dancing Queen At Twinan (IMP HUN) BB BOB. Captured my eye from the start and kept up her stunning presence right through to the challenge. So well made, smart and balanced with no exaggerated visible aspect to her. Head correctly proportioned and balanced. Correct and absolutely captivating dark eye, good reach of neck, well-placed shoulders. Good front, deep chest, tight elbows. Correct and balanced angulation front and rear, well-bent stifles and low hocks. Stood square and moved out purposefully and true. Delighted to award her best of breed.

2 Wyer; Cottivy Strawberry Moon RBB. Balanced, mature, strong and looking so nicely feminine. Correct head, mouth and ears. Ample depth and forechest. Powerful rear quarters showing good drive on the move. Tight oval feet. Good angulation front and rear. Overall balance and poise were also well confirmed as she presented in the challenge line up and a well-deserved reserve best bitch award.

3 Rees; Stadwen Cinderella

Veteran Bitch 2.1

1 Davies; CH Secret Starlight Express Into Ermyn BVB BV . Standing alone at just over 9 years. Pleasing and biddable feminine expression. Well balanced throughout. Correct head, eye and ear set. Well laid-back shoulders leading to a level topline. Deep chest and well-sprung rib. Good angulation. Moved soundly and although alone, deserved the best veteran award.
