Scottish Junior Handler Of The Year 2025 Heat

Judge: Mrs Hailey McKnight

SCOTTISH JUNIOR HANDLER OF THE YEAR 2025 HEAT

6-11 years

1st: Daphne Bryson, handling a Scottish Terrier; a very confident and capable young handler who demonstrated excellent ring presence and a calm, effective rapport with her dog. She spoke to her dog at all times, maintaining a strong connection and keeping her dog focused throughout. Her handling was sympathetic and well-timed, showing a clear understanding of how to present her dog to the best advantage. Movements were controlled, with neat patterns and appropriate pace. Attention to detail and awareness of the judge’s position were commendable throughout. A standout performance on the day and well deserved Best SKC Junior Handler. One to watch for the future.

2nd: Farrah Macdonald, handling a Welsh Corgi (Pembroke); a very promising young handler who presented her dog with care and consideration. She maintained good control throughout and demonstrated a clear understanding of ringcraft for her age. Patterns were completed accurately and she remained attentive and composed at all times. She spoke gently to her dog, offering reassurance and encouragement and was polite and respectful in the ring. A lovely team with great potential, well done.

12-16 years

1st: Finlay McNee, handling a Japanese Shiba Inu; although he stood alone in this class, this young man showed natural ability and a calm and encouraging manner with his dog. He demonstrated a lovely rapport with his dog, handling with patience and kindness throughout, whilst also remaining calm and composed in the ring. One area to develop is remembering the golden rule, never to step between the dog and the judge, but this will come with experience. With time and continued practice, this young man shows real promise as a future handler to watch. I later learned that he is very new to handling, which makes his performance all the more commendable.
