Thank you to the Society for the opportunity to officiate again at their lovely show, always a wonderful welcome with a friendly atmosphere. Thanks must also go to the wonderful exhibitors who entrusted my judgment with their loving companions.


English Setters 

Post Graduate (1) 1. Stevens’ – Bumblecorn Mini Minx. At just 10 months and a little nervous this youngster was really more interested in the smells from the ground than paying attention to her handler, saying that she had the sweetest of expressions upon a very typical English Setter head, all with correct proportions, nicely defined in stop and with a nice rise in occiput, nice colour to eye, strong in neck smoothly flowing into a good shoulder set, front assembly still developing but going in the right direction, great depth in chest with a nice amount of sound rib, loins wide and sat above a neat rear muscular set of thighs, moderate bend in stifle, nothing exaggerated, movement was the little blip, head down smells from the ground won today. BOB, BPIB. 

Gordon Setters 

Special Yearling (1,1).

Post Graduate (1) 1. Allen’s – Chiseled in Time Yuki Storm Corner (Imp Pol). Neat in profile, with a kind dark eye, stop to occiput slightly longer than stop to nose as it should be, ears set low and well feathered, good depth to chest with good amount of well sprung rib, loin with width, 1st and 2nd thighs well toned on a good bend to stifle, feet close knit and slightly arched, movement was a little bit of struggle for the handler as playtime was a lot more fun. RBOB.

Open (1) 1. Allen’s – Black Mystery U Got The Look For Hartenziel (Imp Che). Overall good in outline, nice plains to head with correct proportions, good dark eye, strong in neck with no excess, good depth in chest for plenty of heart room, good spring of rib, nice and deep in rear ribs, loin with width and well toned, stifle with well toned muscular thighs, moved smoothly and with a good gait over the uneven ground. BOB.

Cocker Spaniels

Puppy (3) 1. McCabe-Bell – Grandtully Biddy Ford. Nearly 12 months old and perfectly balanced with a good outline, good length to a muscular neck, head of distinctive shape and with a nice dark eye giving lovely expression, well set shoulders to a good front assembly, well boned for a youngster, ribs deep and with a good spring to rib, rear quarters well rounded and with a good bend in stifle, thighs nicely developed, movement was sure straight and true. BPIB. 2. Davey’s – Haradwater Eye of the Tiger (Imp PRT). Clean cut in outline and with a good topline, head with good proportions, nice dark eye, good length to neck, good depth to chest and a good lay to shoulder, front with good bone, feet firm, developing nicely, movement was a little raw but that will come.

Special Yearling. (3,1) 1. Salmon’s – Crimicar Blu Diamond. Looked the business on entering the ring, great in outline , head of true to type proportions showing a nice dark eye, neck of good length and strong to the feel, chest deep and with good width, good spring of rib, shoulders well laid, top line nice and level to a gentle rounding I croup to tail, 1st and 2nd thighs with good muscle , feet tight with good padding, movement was driven from the rear and covered the ground easily. 2. Cowles – Regaltav Valentine to Shenjela. Very close in all aspects to 1st, good outline and nicely rounded skull on a well shaped head, eye dark and with a lovely expression, neck strong and of good length, chest of good depth with a good spring of rib, front with nice straight bone, good rear quarters neat bend to stifle and well toned thighs, just lost it a little to 1st on the move. 

Post Graduate. (3,1) 1. Small’s – Albertean Minerva JW. Compact sturdy bitch with a cracking outline, topline level, good stop to head and with nice shape to skull, eye dark and giving a good intelligent expression, neck firm strong and of good length, front with plenty of bone on straight leg, shoulders well laid, good depth in chest and with a sound spring to rib, loin short and strong, nice angulation in rear, moved with power and drive, showing a good pad on the away. RBOB. 2. Cowles – Shenjela Starlight. Another close call with 1st in class, good overall outline true to type, head of good proportions and a good dark eye, neck strong of good length, front neat and straight and of good bone, chest with depth and width, well sprung in rib, rear well tone and a balanced bend in stifle, moved with a purpose driven from the rear.

Open (1) 1. Salmon’s – Crimicar Indigo Eclipse ShCEx. This dog was full of himself very much to type , merry and full of affection, drew my eye on entering the ring with a great outline, holding his topline as he moved in the ring, good shape to head and with  no coarseness,  bright dark eye with a playful expression, neck of a good length and with muscle, shoulders well laid, front assembly straight and with plenty of bone, feet firm and with good pads, chest deep and with a nice width, well sprung in rib, loin short and well muscled, very strong in the rear quarters with well toned 1st and 2nd thighs on a moderate bend in stifle, great movement driven from the rear covering the ring with ease BOB. 

Welsh Springer Spaniel

Open Dog (2) 1. Nicoll – Benoveor Sail On To Antreth JW. Compact dog with a good outline, nice head with a good stop, eye dark showing a kind gentle expression, neck clean and strong into a well laid shoulder, front with plenty of bone on straight leg, chest deep and with adequate width, strong and well toned in body, loin strong with a nice arch back to well set tail, rear with plenty of toned muscle and on a moderate turn of stifle, moved with a smooth free ground covering gait. RBOB. 2. Attwoods – IR SHCH Klyowen Drym ShCM, ShCEX, IR VET CH, VW. 10 yr old and can still put on the show, albeit a little slower, carrying the to type head with the expression that just wants to please, strong in neck set to a good shoulder, nice depth and width in chest, still with a sound spring of rib, neat bend in stifle not too much, still dives from the rear on the move.

Open Bitch (1) 1. Attwoods – IR SHCH Kylowen Demelza VW, IR VET CH. Litter sister to 2nd Open dog and still a diva, great in outline and with a sturdy frame, good well balanced head and still with a good dark eye melting you as she gives you the look, strength in neck set a well laid shoulder, deep in brisket and with good width, sound through front, strong through loin and with a moderate bend in stifle, muscled in thigh which gave her the drive to cover the ground with ease on a smooth gait. BOB.

English Springer Spaniels

Post Graduate (2) 1. Hill’s – Teignvalley Rags to Riches JW. Young bitch with a cracking outline, compact and showing strength, well balanced and of good proportions, head typical of breed being nicely chiselled cheek below a good dark eye, neck of a good length strong and muscular fitting into a well laid shoulder, straight in foreleg with good bone, feet tight and compact, good depth to chest with a good spring of rib reaching back to a well toned loin, 1st and 2nd thighs well developed on a moderate bend in stifle, good movement in line on the away and return, on the profile she had good drive covering the ground with ease. BOB. 2. Such’s – Gleadsbury Whataboy at Mujascal. At 10 months old this boy looks promising, great outline and showing an active and driven movement, head of good proportions with a nice dark eye, neck strong and well developed, chest deep and with a good spring to rib, loin strong all through, well set on tail, good muscle through 1st and 2nd thigh on a neat bend in stifle, moved well. BPIB.

Open (1) 1.  Hill’s – Teignvalley New Beginnings JW. Great in outline and with a balanced build, litter brother to previous class winner and you could tell, both showing good quality and to type of breed, his head and expression typical of a male, good dark eye, strong through neck of a good length fitting well into a well laid shoulder, straight in front and of good bone, chest with good depth and well developed, sound spring of rib back to a strong well muscled loin, 1st and 2nd thighs broad and well toned, moderate bend in stifle to set the great outline with no excess, moved with drive from the rear to cover the ground well. RBOB. 

AV Import Register

Post Graduate. (1) 1. Sweet’s – Agualeona’s Brielle (Barbet). At just 8 months old showing plenty of enthusiasm and energy, well defined in stop and with a good width to skull, a good dark eye, short and strong in neck set to well set shoulder, straight in forearm and well boned, level in topline, good depth in chest down to elbow, good feel to feet round and firm, well let down hocks on a moderate bend in stifle, moved with a level topline and with a good driven action from the rear. Best AV Imp Reg and Best AV Imp Reg Puppy.

AVNSC Gundog.

Post Graduate (1) 1. Stirk’s – Nyllaup Akoya Pearl For Grakar (IWS). ( months old and just oozing quality, bit of a hand full but full of character, great in outline looking strong in build and well muscled, head with correct proportions and nicely shaped in skull, good colour of eye, ears set low, neck strong and muscled set through to a good lay of strong shoulders, well boned in straight front assembly, chest deep and full of well sprung rib carried back to well toned coupled hind quarters, the rear in general showed strength and power on a well bent stifle to well let down hocks, the movement was a free sound ground covering gait driven from the strong rear, making short work of the ring, level through the topline, flowed without deviation. Best AVNSC, Best AVNSC Puppy. 

Gundog Group

Group 1. Winsor-Williams & Williams – Aurgentious Mena Dhu (Golden Retriever). Strongly built and full of substance, stood out with a steady faultless movement, good  planes and dimensions to head and a good dark eye, strong neck into well laid shoulders, body well balanced with a good level topline on the move, front assembly good, short coupled and strong in loin, rear also with well toned thighs on a good bend in stifle. 

Group 2. Courtier’s – Maycourt Take Me Top The Top JW (Curly Coated Retriever) Good example of the breed with a presence of distinction in the ring, good parallel planes to head with a good dark eye, neck with slight arch no throatiness and strong, well laid shoulders, straight in foreleg and with strong pasterns, deep in chest with a good spring of rib, very muscular in rear with well let down hocks, really effortless in gait with a good extension.

Group 3. Stirk’s - Nyllaup Akoya Pearl For Grakar (IWS). Seen Dog

Group 4. Thurgood’s – Thurwhitt Lyra Belacqua (Flat Coated Retriever). Enthusiastic and confident dog of good type, nice shape to skull with a nice dark eye, good length to neck set well to a good lay in shoulder, nice and deep in chest with adequate width, forelegs straight, loin of good proportions, hocks well let down, muscular throughout, free flowing ground covering gait.

Gundog Puppy Group

Puppy Group 1. Stirk’s - Nyllaup Akoya Pearl For Grakar (IWS). Seen Dog

Puppy Group 2. McCabe-Bell – Grandtully Biddy Ford (Cocker Spaniel) Seen dog.

Puppy Group 3. Porter’s – Shearstone Hasta La Vista (Ret Golden) Substantial dog for its age with a good well proportioned head, good eye colour, and good through body and strong in rear quarters, well toned muscle throughout, movement was clean and powerful driven from the strong rear.

Puppy Group 4. Hughes – Abacot Heart of the Ocean (NSDTR). Playful youngster that showed well and with a happy temperament yet still confident, very much to type, clean through the head and with a nice colour to eye, still a little raw, boding up nicely in all the right places, got this position with movement which was powerful for so young and had good reach, head carried well.
