MORECAMBE & HEYSHAM OPEN SHOW 9TH AUGUST 2025

Thank you to your committee for inviting me to judge Pointers at your Two Day Open Show on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th August 2025.

Puppy (2)

1. Radcliffe’s Sniperay Secret Affair Black & White 10-month-old bitch. Pretty feminine head, which has still to finish on a clean neck. Well laid shoulders on correct oval bone, slightly sloping pasterns as required for shock absorption, finishing on good feet. Good spring of rib. Strong topline with a decent turn of stifle on well let-down hocks. Moved well. Best Puppy in Breed

2. Bush’s Piasharn Anne Bonny. A close second, and I’m sure these two will change places in future. Liver & white bitch, only 6 months old and giving away so much on maturity and ring confidence. Beautiful head and expression, with thin leathers. Her angles are balanced fore and aft, and she held her topline on the move. Shorter coupled that (1). Well-ribbed.  I could quite easily have interchanged these two, but (1) was more settled on the move.

Junior (4)

1. Gates Sharnphilly Dizzy Blonde at Linosa Orange and white with super construction and balance. Definitely as a series of curves as the Breed Standard asks for. She oozes class. Pleasing head with lots of work in it, slightly dished foreface with wide nostrils. Darkest of eyes. Clean neck into well-laid shoulders with correct return of upper arm. Deep brisket ribs, carried well back, with strong topline and correct tail set. It was particularly gratifying to see a Pointer with such an emphasised lashing tail action, and she pushed hard for BOB but had to settle for Reserve BOB today. She has a bright future for sure, and I could have taken her home.

2. Baker & Swans Mattiboo Million Love Songs Black & White male who needs time to mature. Different type of head but nevertheless pleasing. Good skull and length of foreface. Neat leathers. Kind expression. Good topline. Correct oval bone on well-cushioned feet. Correct hard coat texture. He needs to settle into his angles and let his tendons, ligaments and muscles all catch up with each other as his movement was erratic today. I’ve seen him more settled.

Special Yearling (2)

1. Gates Sharnphilly Dizzy Blonde at Linosa see above

Post Graduate (3)

Bush’s Piasharn Breaking The Law orange& White bitch with a lovely head. Would prefer a darker eye. Well set in neck, straight front, good lay & return. Oval bone and tight feet. Moved with confidence and style.

2. Bush’s Rocka Rolla Black & White litter brother to (1), and many of the same comments apply. Another who will benefit from having time to mature – he’ll be at his best when he reaches 4yo. He has balanced angulation fore and aft. Longer cast than his sister. Well-muscled and moved with style. I preferred the tail set of (1) A credit to the owners on two very nice Pointers.

3. Gordon's Hawkfield Lemony Snickett

Open

1 (4)

1 Radcliffe’s Sh Ch Sniperay Edge of Glory – Orange and white bitch who I’ve always admired, so nice to finally get my hands on her. Good head, typical of this kennel. If you know the breed, you’ll realise that there are 2 distinct head types, and this kennel specialises in the more traditional head type. Good eye shape and colour, with defined stop. Thin leathers, set on level to her eye. Super expression when alert. Clean neck without any hint of dewlap. Elbows close to her well-let-down brisket. Good spring of rib and short coupled. Moved out well with a daisy-cutting action and drive. BOB.

2 Gordon’s Hawkfield Audacity – an older boy and one I admired very much in his youth but time has caught up with him. He has the most beautiful of heads, as most do from this well-known kennel, set on a muscular clean neck. He was a bit loaded over the shoulders today which affected his front movement, Excelled in pro-sternum. Strong topline and close coupled. Tail set higher than I would prefer.
