Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Staffordshire & Birmingham Agricultural Society 28th May 2025 Staffordshire Bull Terrier Georgia Kirk (Kirstaff) I would like to thank the officers and committee of Staffordshire & Birmingham Agricultural Society for inviting me to judge at their open show. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for their entries. I was pleased to find some depth of quality across the entry, including a number of promising youngsters who should go on well with maturity. Dogs were presented in good condition, and I appreciated the time and effort from all who took part. Class 241 – Puppy (5/1) 1st – Martinez, Mr I & Mr J R. BULLBROTHERS TIMELORD. Strong, well-balanced young male showing excellent breed type and promise at just 10 months. Displays a broad, clean head with good depth and a distinct stop, with correct scissor bite and clean lips. Neat rose ears, well set and proportionate to skull size, and dark round eyes enhance his expression, which is full of character. Neck is short, thick and muscular, blending smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Straight front with good bone and tight, well-padded feet. Chest is developing well, showing early depth and width. Compact body with good rib. Rear is well-muscled with correct angulation, strong second thigh and low-set hocks. Topline is level and held well both standing and on the move. Shown in excellent condition, with impressive muscle tone for his age. Movement was steady and true, if a touch close behind, but showing good drive and purpose. A quality young dog who shows maturity beyond his months and held his outline at all times. Stood out for overall type, construction and ring presence. Handled well. In the challenge for Best Puppy, it came down to two promising youngsters, both presenting good breed type and structure for their age. The junior dog showed plenty of style and presence, but I ultimately favoured this boy for his overall balance, depth of quality, and maturity at just 10 months. He held his shape well and demonstrated the better finish on the day. Delighted to award him Best Puppy in Breed. Thank you for bringing him! 2nd – Martinez, Mr I & Mr J R. BULLBROTHERS BLACK OIL. Well-balanced and feminine, 9 month old black/brindle bitch who presents a clean, compact outline and shows much promise at this stage. Head is proportionate with good width of skull, defined stop and correct scissor bite. Expression is typical, enhanced by dark, round eyes and well-set, neat rose ears that frame the skull nicely. Cheek muscle still developing but appropriate for her age. Neck is of moderate length, muscular and blends smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Front is straight with adequate bone, tight elbows and well-padded feet. Chest shows early development with depth and some width visible, though more maturity is still to come. Body is short-coupled with a level topline held steadily throughout. Ribcage is beginning to spring, with enough fill for age. Hindquarters are developing well, though stifle angulation is on the moderate side at this stage. While her movement remains steady and true, a touch more bend would enhance rear drive and follow-through. That said, she tracks accurately and presents a balanced profile, with every sign that strength and reach will come with age and muscle development. Shown in lovely condition with a close, glossy coat. With time to mature she should progress well. Handled well, thank you for bringing her! 3rd – Petts, Mr L & Mrs R. ARKENSTAFF SHES THE ONE. Class 242 – Junior (4/0) 1st – Banner, Mr J L & Mrs N M. GEORDIESTAFF HADAWAY PET. Stylish 13 month old brindle bitch who caught my eye for her balance, expression and breed type. Head is well proportioned, showing good width and depth, with a clean skull and defined stop. Eyes are round, dark, and well set, giving a keen, alert expression. Neat rose ears are correctly placed and of good size, enhancing the overall head shape without exaggeration. Bite is correct, with clean lips and evident strength through the underjaw. Neck is of moderate length, muscular and blends cleanly into the shoulders. Front is straight with enough width through the chest for age. Bone is of good strength without coarseness. Body is compact and well ribbed with close coupling and a level topline, held both stacked and on the move. Hindquarters are well made with adequate bend of stifle, firm second thigh and correct tailset. She moved well, showing good drive and maintaining her outline. Shown in lovely condition with a close, healthy coat and handled to advantage. Feminine throughout but with strength where needed. A well-constructed bitch of pleasing type and outline, just gave way to the BOB winner on overall strength, but it was a close decision, she fully deserved her Reserve placing. Happy to award her Reserve Best of Breed; thank you for bringing her! 2nd – Martinez, Mr I & Mr J R. BULLBROTHERS THE NAVIGATOR. Upstanding 9 month old black/brindle male with white chest and paw, presenting with strength and breed type. Head is well-proportioned and masculine showing good width, a pronounced stop, and strong underjaw. Correct scissor bite. Expression is keen and alert, aided by dark, round eyes and neat, well-set rose ears that sit correctly on the skull. Neck is well-muscled and of moderate length, flowing cleanly into a well-placed shoulder. Chest has good width and depth with front straight and elbows close, bone is of good strength. Topline is level and firm, held steadily both stacked and on the move. Body is compact and well-developed rib for age. He stands slightly taller on the leg than the class winner, with a more open outline behind that affects how he settles in profile. On the move, he tracked straight and carried himself well, but lacked the same degree of follow-through and drive from the rear, which affected overall fluidity. Still, a quality male with strength, type and style, shown in excellent condition and handled well. Thank you for bringing him! 3rd – Martinez, Mr I & Mr J R. BULLBROTHERS BLACK OIL. Class 243 – Yearling (1/0) 1st – Robinson, Robinson-Cox & Cox, Mr H, Mrs M A, Mrs C L & Mr S C. HAMASON SWEET LITTLE MYSTRY JW. Upstanding brindle and white male of 18 months, who I’ve judged previously as a puppy, pleased to see him developing on track and maturing. Presents a clean, balanced outline with strength throughout and no exaggeration. Head is well-proportioned, showing good width of skull and foreface, with a pronounced stop and strong underjaw. Correct scissor bite and tight lips. Expression is keen and typical, aided by dark, round eyes and neat rose ears, correctly placed and carried. Neck is strong and muscular, of moderate length and blending smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Chest is broad with depth through the brisket, and the front is straight with ample bone and neat feet. Topline is level and firm, held well both stacked and on the move. Ribs are well sprung. Hindquarters are muscular and well developed, showing width through the second thigh and low-set hocks. Movement was clean and unexaggerated, showing true footfall, forward reach and a strong, driving action from behind. He held a firm outline throughout, moving with composure and purpose. Shown in clean condition with evident muscle tone, enough to support his frame without appearing overdone. Coat lies close and is in healthy condition. A dog of honest, typical construction, free from exaggeration and balanced throughout. Handled well. Faced with some quality class winners in the line-up, it was his combination of soundness, strength, and typical breed outline that secured him Best of Breed, the most complete exhibit on the day. Happy to also see him go Terrier Group 2. Thank you for bringing him! Class 244 – Post Graduate (2/0) 1st – Martinez, Mr I & Mr J R. BULLBROTHERS HOWAY THE LADS. 2 and a half year old black/brindle male of pleasing type, presenting a clean, upstanding outline while maintaining typical proportions. Head is broad and well-muscled, showing strength whilst maintaining clean lines. Ears are neat and correctly placed, framing a well-defined skull with a clean stop. Eyes are well shaped and set, though ideally a touch darker to enhance expression. Correct scissor bite with strong underjaw and tidy lips. Neck is strong and of good length, blending smoothly into a well-laid shoulder. Front is straight with good width of chest and enough depth. Front shows sufficient bone and stand on tight, well-padded feet. Topline is level and held well on the move and in profile. Body is compact and firm, with good spring of rib and tuck-up. Hindquarters are balanced with moderate angulation and strength through the second thigh. Moved cleanly and with efficiency, holding a tidy shape throughout. A sound, class-worthy dog who earned his place on overall balance and type. Handled well. Thank you for bringing him! 2nd – Robinson, Robinson-Cox & Cox, Mr H, Mrs M A, Mrs C L & Mr S C. HAMASON A WISH AWAY. 5 year old brindle bitch with white chest and feet, of standard size and feminine proportions. Head is well balanced, with pleasing width and strength without exaggeration. Muzzle is clean, with a distinct stop and strong underjaw. Eyes are round and expressive, framed by neat, well-set rose ears which contribute to her expression. Neck is well-muscled and blends cleanly into the shoulder, showing good strength without bulk. Front is straight with enough width through the chest, and she stands on tidy, well-padded feet. Body is compact with a level topline held both standing and moving, ribs well sprung and waist defined. Hindquarters show moderate angulation, and hocks are well let down and straight when viewed from behind. Moved with ease and purpose, holding her shape and showing a tidy, balanced stride. A well-made and typical bitch who presented a clean, honest picture, just preferred the greater strength and substance of the dog today. Handled well. Thank you for bringing her! Class 245 – Open Dog (0/0) Class 246 – Open Bitch (7/2) 1st – Constant, Mr D. SIKAISTAFF CASK STRENGTH JW. Two and a half year old black/brindle bitch of standard size, compact and balanced, showing typical breed proportions. Head is well-shaped with neat rose ears, dark expressive eyes and correct dentition. Not quite the strength in skull or foreface of the winner, but still balanced and unexaggerated. Neck is of good length and strength, flowing into well-laid shoulders. Front is clean and straight, with enough width through the chest. Rear is well angulated with good muscle tone, allowing for a free and efficient stride. Topline remains level both stacked and on the move, and she carries herself with composure. Covered the ground with freedom and balance. A quality and nicely put-together bitch with much to admire, just preferred the overall substance and head strength of the class winner today. Handled well. Thank you for bringing her! 3rd – Sloka, Mrs V. ALPORT DARK QUEEN OF ARKENSTAFF.
