Special Awards Critiques

Thursday 3rd July 2025

I would like to thank the committee for this judging opportunity. I would also like to thank my two stewards for keeping things moving effectively. I have enjoyed my day. The entry for the three classes was good. The dogs seemed to be dealing with such a warm day well and it was great to see measures had been taken by owners to help their dogs cope with this.

The quality of the breed has improved significantly over the years, especially around movement. All chests had exceptional depth and none were to narrow. The breed is in good hands moving forward and I look forward to seeing the breed flourish in the future.

Class A- Special Award Junior (5 entries, 2 absent)

1st- Cunnah's COPPERTAILS JUST PEACHY 11 month old girl. Lighter shade of fawn with good pigmentation throughout. Feminine expression and good eye in shape, colour and showing no haw. Good length and depth of body. Moved out well.

2nd- Moran's AIBREAN LIAM 8 month old male. Darker in colour than first Very masculine in appearance. Wrinkle correct when both in repose and when aroused. Eyes very expressive. Moved out soundly.

Class B- Special Award Limit (5 entries, 1 absent)

Tough class to judge. Spoilt for choice and would have made decisions easier with dog and bitch classes. All were harmonious for their ages. The males were masculine and bitches feminine.

1st- Goodman's BOURGEOISIE RAISE THE ROOF AT HENCHBULL 4 year old substantial male of darker colouring. The head has the typical inverted 'v'. Wrinkles were prominent without excess giving the imposing expression. Ribs well sprung. Moved well.

2nd- Black's RYODOGUES YOSHI 2 year old male. A little short on leg but still has the quality expected in the show ring. Strong and athletic with sound movement. Body of correct proportions.

Class C- Special Award Open- (3 entries, 1 absent)

1st- Van- Heerden's VANASUZE TOUCH OF CLASS This 5 year old girl lives up to her name. Her darker colour and correct wrinkle give the correct expression and a feminine one at that. Pigmentation throughout was in contract with her colour. Good eyes, both in shape and colour. Good length of neck and body. Front assembly good and powerful and in harmony with rear angulation. Movement looked like she could go all day.

2nd- Black's RYODOGUES THE MIGHTY BOWSER Another quality 2 year old male. I liked this boys exuberance on the move, especially in today's heat. I would have liked a little more wrinkle but he is still imposing and athletic. Forboding expression which was also alert and keen.
