I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment at this lovely show in a super venue and thank the committee of Annandale Canine Society for inviting me. My two able stewards, Janice and Caroline, were extremely organised and kept things moving. It was a cold and blustery day, and some exhibits were less able to cope with the weather than others however, I was there to judge the dogs on the day and I was pleased with my final line-up. Delighted to see my group winner go on to RBIS and my Best Veteran was RBVIS. AV HOUND IMP REG P (1, 0) 1 Stevenson-Bramley’s Caelestibleu How You Doin, Basset Bleu De Gascogne. What a lovely puppy to start the day off! 8-month-old dog. Gentle expression, correct bite, good length of ear, long neck, straight forelegs, shoulders well-laid back, long back with gentle rise and slight tuck up. Correct length tail which he carried proudly, sickle-like on the move. True coming and going. Moved with purpose around the ring. Best Imp, HPG1 and later RBPIS. AV HOUND IMP REG O (1, 0) 1 Stevenson-Bramley’s Caelestibleu Fever, Basset Bleu De Gascogne. Another from the same stable as the puppy import. 18-month-old bitch, typical head, enough length of neck, well-laid back shoulders and slightly crooked forelegs. Deep chest and strong back. Movement out and back not as tidy as the youngster. BASENJI PG (0,0), BASENJI O (1, 0) 1 Jardine’s Ch Tadrose North Star. 6-year-old red and white bitch. Nice example of the breed. Pleasing head, ears set on well, well-arched neck, dark eye and clean bite. Short level back, ribs well sprung, correct tail, tight feet. Shown in excellent condition. BOB. BEAGLE G (4, 1) 1 Stuart’s Boskenna Bell of the Ball. The first of several from the same litter to be exhibited today. 6-month-old tan and white bitch. Appealing expression, well bodied, level topline and well sprung ribs. Tight feet. True coming and going. Handled well to win the class against a similar littermate. 2 Stuart’s Boskenna Frozen in Time. Another tan and white bitch from the same litter and many of the same comments apply. Not quite the depth of body of 1 and movement a little less tidy. BEAGLE PG (4, 1) 1 Stuart’s Boskenna Prince Charming. Handsome 6-month-old tricolour dog which I liked very much. Well-proportioned throughout. Clean head, dark eye, good length of neck, shoulders well-laid back and level topline. Well bent stifles and strong hocks. Easily the best mover in the class and deserved his win despite being a little unsettled while standing. BPIB. 2 Pocklington-Hall’s Bayard Bee Good. 2-year-old tan and white dog. Another nice male with masculine head, good length of neck, bone and feet. Level topline. Moved true out and back but outmoved by 1 on the go around. BEAGLE O (1, 0) 1 Stuart’s Boskenna’s Wicked Witch. 21-month-old bitch. Nicely put together with good bone and feet. Tail well set on. Moved well when her handler slowed the pace. BOB and BPIB. BASSET FAUVE DE BRETAGNE PG (3, 1) 1 Stevenson-Bramley’s Revenite Madame Edith. Smart youngster of 7 months. Attractive head, good front assembly. Well ribbed although would’ve preferred a little more length of back. Moved well in profile. BOB. 2 Greig’s Beabass Sergio. 4-year-old male with dark eye, moderate stop and complete scissor bite. Level topline with ribs carried well back. BASSET FAUVE DE BRETAGNE O (4, 1) 1 Pocklington-Hall’s Merlin Do Casal Dos Choupos (SHCEX VW)(IMP PRT). 8½-year-old gold-wheaten veteran who withstood the cold well today. Well-defined occiput, slightly arched foreface. Would have preferred skull to be a little more rounded and a flatter topline. Good dense, harsh coat and tight feet. Moved freely. 2 Revens’ Beabass Usha. 21-month-old red-wheaten bitch. Typical head with pleasing expression, correct ears and strong neck. Good bone, well bodied and ribbed well back. Unfortunately felt the cold a little more than 1 today which affected her topline while standing. DACHSHUND MLH PG (2, 1) 1 Kasprowicz’s Daniello Golden Eyes. 9-month-old cream bitch. Beautiful coat and condition. Good head carriage on the go around and true coming and going. Carrying a little too much weight today. BPIB. DACHSHUND MLH O (3, 2) 1 Kasprowicz’s Wishadax’s Blonde Showman Daniello. 15-month-old cream male. Liked his overall shape. Nicely proportioned head with dark eye and pleasing expression. Level topline and ribbed well back. Good ground clearance with free and easy movement. True coming and going. BOB. MSH PG (0, 0), DACHSHUND MSH O (0, 0), DACHSHUND MWH PG (0, 0), DACHSHUND MWH O (0, 0). DACHSHUND LH PG (1, 0) 1 McGavigan & Pettigrew’s Pettigans Chanson D’Amour. 11-month-old red bitch shown in beautiful condition. Nicely proportioned head, dark eye and strong underjaw. Good length of neck running into smooth shoulders and flat topline. Good ground clearance. Moved well in profile once settled. BPIB. DACHSHUND LH O (2, 0) 1 McGavigan & Pettigrew’s Veni, Vidi Vici. Rising 2-year-old black and tan bitch. From the first go around this little lady had my eye. She just floated around the ring. Shown in tip, top condition with abundant feathering. Well- proportioned throughout with good bone and balanced angulation. Proud head carriage and level topline. My BOB, HG1 and later RBIS. 2 Maxwell & Chalmers’ Swansford Padamador at Aintshe. 15-month-old red male of good size shown in lovely condition. Masculine head with pleasing expression and dark eye. Long neck leading to strong muscular back. Ribbed well back. Good angulation fore and aft but unfortunately a little unsettled on the move today. DACHSHUND SH PG (1, 0) 1 Balfour & Balfour’s Clentry Steal The Limelight. 1-year-old red bitch. Typical head, clean neck, prominent sternum, level topline and balanced angulation. Good ground clearance. True coming and going. Would’ve preferred elbows more tucked in. DACHSHUND SH O (1, 0) 1 Clentry Mango Passion SHCEX. 3½-year-old red bitch which I have judged before and like very much. It was lovely to see her again today, a little more mature but with the same overall pleasing shape and movement. Only just missed out on a group place today. BOB. DACHSHUND WH PG (0, 0), DACHSHUND WH O (0, 0). HAMILTONSTOVARE PG (1,1), HAMILTONSTOVARE L (0, 0), HAMILTONSTOVARE O (1, 0) 1 Stuart’s Dream Maker From Sufayre. Rising 3-year-old bitch. Well-proportioned head and strong neck leading into a slightly upright shoulder which didn’t seem to detract too much from her free and easy profile movement. A little more body and muscle tone would be to her advantage. BOB. RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK G (3, 1) 1 Hall’s Msingi Fancy That At Cynami. 11-month-old bitch. Typical head of good proportions, strong clean neck leading into nicely angulated shoulders. Strong, broad back but lacking depth of brisket. Powerful rear. Good bone and feet. Won the class on movement. BPIB. 2 Scanlon’s Kinabula’s Beat Of My Heart. 12-month-old bitch. Preferred her overall shape. Pleasing head and strong neck. Nicely sloping shoulder, well-filled in front, good depth of chest and spring of rib. Strong, broad back and well-defined, muscular hindquarters. Just ever so slightly naughty today which unfortunately cost her the class. RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK PG (1, 0) 1 Thomson & Green’s Rottzridge Celtic Legen at Kotamury. Well-constructed 2-year-old male shown in excellent muscular condition. I loved his overall shape. Masculine head, clean neck, well-bodied, balanced angulation fore and aft. Moved freely and well in all directions. My BOB. RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK O (2, 1) 1 Scanlon’s Kinabula’s All About The Bass JW SHCEX OSW VW. Approaching 8 years of age, I have long admired this girl from ringside and under my hand she did not disappoint. Such a handsome and sound bitch. Pleasing head with dark eye and feminine expression, strong neck, good lay back of shoulder, excellent fill in front and depth of brisket, strong bone, balanced angulation, tail well set on, tight feet. Many times I have observed this girl’s free and active movement but unfortunately today, she was unsettled with a new handler and did not show herself to advantage on the move. AVNSC HOUND P (1, 0) 1 Brown & Brown’s Vysaris Baccus Dieu Du Vin. PBGV. Very much still a baby at just under 12 months of age this young man seemed less than happy on the move today. Pleasing head, neck well set in shoulder, prominent sternum, deep brisket, ribbed well back and level topline. Balanced angulation. Nicely packaged in all. Best AVNSC P. AVNSC HOUND PG (3, 1) 1 Clark’s Atiqah Origen Charm of Thiefside (Imp SVK). Eye-catching 14-month-old Sloughi bitch shown in fit condition. Balanced head with slight stop and dark eye. Ears could be set slightly higher. Elegant neck, flat bone with good muscle definition. Ribbed well back with nice underline and short loin. Moderate angulation behind. Effortless movement on the go around. Best AVNSC. 2 Smettem-Minson’s Chywoon Love Story. Rising 2-year-old dog. Head of equal proportions with slightly domed skull. Correct ears. Strong, slightly arched neck leading into well laid-back shoulders. Not the strongest of toplines but deep brisket with plenty of heart room. Powerful hindquarters and low set tail of correct length. AVNSC HOUND O (2, 1) 1 Clark’s Magida Sabiih Al Sahra. 7-year-old bitch. Pleasing head with feminine expression and dark eye. Elegant but capable in appearance. Balanced fore and aft. Her tail flew merrily as she moved effortlessly around the ring. AV HOUND V (8, 1) 1 Turner’s Gilnockie Have Faith. This moderate 7-year-old black bitch with white trim presented a lovely balanced outline. Good for size, she has a pretty head, dark eye and strong jaw. Long neck leading into well-laid-back shoulders. Nicely filled in front, good spring of rib and delicate rise over the loin. Bladed bone, strong pasterns, good turn of stifle with hocks well let down. Neat feet. Moved well in all directions. My Best AVHV and later RBVIS. 2 Jardine’s Woodella Hot Rod VW. 10-year-old red and white male in super condition for his age. Masculine head of correct proportions, fine ears and dark almond eyes. Strong neck of good length, shoulders well-laid-back. Good spring of rib and short, strong loin. Good muscle tone throughout. Correct feet. Moved well. Unlucky to meet 1 today.
