Great Yarmouth Gorleston & District Canine Society

Thank you to the Welsh Corgi League (East Anglian Sub-Section) for requesting I judge the Pembroke classes and for Jacky Cutler for adding the Cardigan classes. I really enjoyed my day, finding some lovely dogs that ‘did us proud’ in the Pastoral group. A special thank you to my stewards, who worked tirelessly all day. One also assisted in getting dogs on the table and actually handling them for some of the exhibitors.

WELSH CORGI (CARDIGAN)

LIMIT (1)

1. Hayward’s Elessar Secondstaronright with Pemshore. She stood alone, was a sturdy tough good type of Cardigan, of overall good balance. but decided not to co-operate with her handler. She had the required ‘foxy’ head, of correct proportions, wide skull, good ear carriage and strong under-jaw. Her correctly shaped eyes matched her lovely red coloured coat. Well laid shoulders, with elbows close to her side. Forearms moulded around the chest and feet turned slightly outwards. Good topline. Well-muscled thighs, with strong well angulated stifles. Tail set correct but tended to carry her tail rather high at times. Presented in good coat. Hard weather-proof, hard topcoat and good undercoat. BEST OF BREED.

WELSH CORGI (PEMBROKE)

Classes kindly supported by the Welsh Corgi League (East Anglian Sub-Section). Various Trophies on offer.

PUPPY (1)

1. Coates’ Durrcor Luna Eclipse. What a super 11-month-old feminine bitch puppy, with more maturing to do. I will watch her with great interest, as she should have a great future. Low set, strong and sturdily built. Outgoing with a super temperament. Foxy shaped head with well set round eyes of good dark colour. Well set slightly rounded ears, creating the correct shaped head. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulders with forearms beginning to mould around her developing chest. Correct length of body and level strong topline. Good hindquarters with well angulated stifles and straight parallel hocks. A natural bobtail, nicely boned with good tight oval feet. Moves well with wonderful side action with very little lift of feet. Presented in excellent condition and coat. I was delighted to see her go Best Pastoral Puppy. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

GRADUATE (3)

1. Mann’s Barwal Alice Pippin. An attractive 4-year-old bitch, black and tan colour with white markings, who does not like being shown, which is a great pity. Correct foxy head with round eyes. Nice level topline and body of good length. Nice tail set with long tail, carried well. Lighter in body than some but OK. Moved freely with very little lift of feet.

2. Hayward’s Pemslife Eternal Dream Affair with Pemshore (NBT) (Imp Ita). A nice 18-month-old dog who was not showing himself off to his best potential. Pulling on the lead and not using his ears. He had well set round eyes with colour blending with his coat colour. His ears had too much white on them for me. His body was of the correct length but thicker built and had a nice level topline. Good hindquarters and angulated stifles.

OPEN DOG (3)

1. Hulse & Adams’ Babaneira Kensington at Fablecroft. Caught my eye as soon as he walked into the ring, I hoped he was not going to disappoint me when I went over him. He certainly didn’t. He fitted my interpretation of the standard very well. 3 years old, mature, sturdily built, giving impression of substance, bold in outlook. Very smart and he knows it, a real showoff! Presented and shown to perfection. Well boned and masculine, but certainly not course. He has a super head of correct proportions. The true intelligent expression – ‘look at me’. Skull fairly wide and flat between the ears, round eyes and well-set ears. Good reach of neck leading to excellent shoulder placement. Straight front legs and close-fitting elbows. Correct length of body with level topline. Strong hindquarters with well angulated stifles and long tail carried well. Oval feet with well arched toes supporting a well-balanced body. Super coat, being a deep rich red colour. He moved very well with reach in front and thrust from the rear. Fit for purpose, I could see him working the cattle. I was very pleased to see he went Pastoral Group Four in a very strong group. BEST DOG & BEST OF BREED.

2. Aylott’s Barwal Badger Boy (NBT). Quite a different type with a natural ‘bob’ tail. He was in super condition and coat with plenty of substance. A good foxy shaped head and appearance. Skull fairly wide, flat between the ears and moderate stop. Well set round brown eyes and good ears.

OPEN BITCH (3)

1. Blake’s Elmsmere Magic Gift. A 7-year-old red and white bitch of good quality with lovely shape, balance and size. Well boned but still feminine. Lovely head proportions, well set round eyes with black pigment around them, giving a super kind expression. Correct skull shape and good ear set. Missing a front tooth, but she has a perfect regular scissor bite and is 7 years old. Fairly long neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Level topline. Strong hindquarters and well angulated stifles. Moved very well. Correct oval feet with well arched toes. Presented in good coat.

2. Aylott’s Holly Pippin at Barwal. A tricolour bitch with lots to like. Will be 7 years old in 3 months. Not quite the strength of head, bone and substance as the bitch above, but OK. She has the correct foxy head with good round eyes. Well laid shoulders and good chest. Well angulated stifles. Moved out well on tight oval feet with well arched toes. A happy bitch with a lovely friendly temperament.

3. Mann’s Barwal Alice Pippin.

VETERAN (2)

1. Blake’s Elmsmere Magic Gift. AS ABOVE. BEST VETERAN.

2. Hayward’s Pemslife Live to Tell with Penshore (Imp Ita). An 8-year-old bitch, who has obviously been well looked after. Strongly made with good ground clearance and carrying just the right amount of weight. In excellent coat. She would insist on pulling and not working with her handler, making it hard to assess her movement. Correct round eyes, white on her ears detracted from her head appearance. Topline strong and level over a good length of body. Well angulated stifles. Good oval feet with well arched toes.
