East Kent Canine Society

Breed: BIS, Stakes, Terriers & Otterhounds

East Kent Canine Society Open Show, 2nd November 2025

Best In Show 274 - Ch/dk/nor/swe/int Ch Mifcah's The King and I JW, Breed: Shih Tzu (Mrs M & Miss A Flack & Hals), very nice Shih Tzu male at the zenith of maturity. Good head and expression, correct forehand and return of upperarm, firm in topline with good ribbing & he uses and carries his tail well; lots to like on the move and went with a good smooth action both directions and looked particularly good in profile. BIS.

Reserve Best In Show 165 - Ch Nasabe Play The Game JW ShCEx OSW, Breed: English Toy Terrier (Black and Tan) (Mrs H & Mr J Haffenden & Wood), a very nice ETT who I had judged in the breed earlier in the day. Continuing to put up a good show to fight off some good contenders, RBIS.

Best Puppy In Show 563 - Jojavik Bera Brawnyboots, Breed: Dobermann (Mrs J A & Miss V L & Mr R J Ingram & Ingram & Lack), upstanding and commanding Dobermann bitch with a lot going for her. Super head and eye, clean neck into excellent shoulders and topline; very good forehand and she stands on the best of legs and feet. A super, true and powerful mover from any angle; a well deserved BPIS. Her title will, I am sure, be a formality.

Reserve Best Puppy In Show 227 - Metexa Miss World for Lotsmoor NAF TAF, Breed: Boston Terrier (Mr P A Young) a Boston Terrier, conversely the other end of the scale to the Dobermann who I understand was competing in her last puppy class, this precocious little madam was attending her first show aged just over 6 months. Very attractive head and eye, good neck and forehand, she has a lovely body and is very accurate on the move, if at times a little tentative, as is to be expected. Ch quality for sure & we will hear a lot more of her.

A.V.N.S.C. Terrier

Best Of Breed 411 - Holbam Midsummer Knight at Ruffmar (ai) JW ShCEx OSW (Miss M Ruffles), just the one present in AVNSC today and a very nice Irish Terrier. Good head and eye, neat ears & well balanced head and skull. Excellent neck and shoulder, a little soft in topline, carried his tail well & is sound on the move. Good pads and well presented.

Airedale Terrier

Best Of Breed 416 - Est Etiam Novus Angelus mit Wendaire (Imp Ukr) JW (Ms W A & Mr P R Edington - Hall & Ballinger), just the one present & coming from Open, upstanding and masculine dog; excellent head and eye, well made in front, firm topline and carried himself well both directions and in profile. Prefer less curl to his tail. BOB.

Bedlington Terrier

1st) Silverkinn Spice Girl (Mrs S & Mr D Hart), very nice youngster with a good basic shape and outline. Good balance to skull and foreface and ears set well. Very good neck and shoulder, neat feet & pads. Correct topline and underline, with a well set tail. Quite a tidy mover but could just be a little neater both ways. Notwithstanding, she is a useful prospect and was presented perfectly. RBOB.

1st) Ratzwell Jolly Jubilee JW (Mrs C A Harris), the best of the 3 here for basic outline and balance. I liked her head and eye, and her front is well made. Her front legs turn out a little too much which detracted. Firm topline, of the correct mould for the breed. In a good jacket and a free, easy mover with a margin more accuracy up and back than Spice Girl.

2nd) Silverkinn Spice Girl (Mrs S & Mr D Hart), see PG.

3rd) Devleigh True Blue (Mr R A & Mrs J Nind)

Border Terrier

Puppy

1st) Gracezheim Bounce Back to Awbrooksky (Mr R & Miss L & Mrs C Goddard), caught my eye on the first go around and I found nothing to change my mind. Super youngster, excellent head and eye, good front and chest, spans well & has a good pelt, tail used correctly and foot perfect up and back and in profile. Thought he was lovely, BOB, BPIB, TG1 & TPG1. Close up for main awards later in the day, Ch quality no doubt.

2nd) Gracezheim Inspired by Awbrooksky (Mr R & Miss L Goddard), I didn’t realise these two were siblings but thought they were very alike; really with not a lot to split them. The outstanding confidence and self-assuredness of the winner won the day, but this one too has a lot of promise and should do well.

3rd) Digmoor Bluebella (Mrs S Regan)

Yearling

Entries: 3 Absentees: 2

1st) Bostontime Super Lady (Mr O Cox), a very good basic make and shape; correct head and eye, good neck and shoulders and spanned well. Stands on good legs and feet and was quite accurate from all angles, in good jacket.

Limit

Entries: 3 Absentees: 1

1st) Arunmere Nighthawk (Miss J Hughes), I thought the most typical of these three for action in terms of accuracy and carriage on the move. Good head and eye, balanced angulation & and well-muscled all through.

2nd) Borasco Lady Vengeance (Mrs D Clewlow), very smart with a good shape and outline, liked her head and eye, well balanced with strength; but not coarse. Gained her place here over 3rd on her fluidity and topline. Needs a better jacket at the minute.

3rd) Starmix Candy (Miss J Feeney)

Dandie Dinmont Terrier

Post Graduate

1st) Lenacourt Laird Rannech (Ms Npk & Mr Pe Hoskisson & Hinds), smart chap; good basic shape and outline. Liked his head and eye, with some strength. Good topline for the breed and his quarters were good, but his tail did him no favours on the move being rather curled. Sound and happy, could have been a little better textured in coat. RBOB.

1st) Lairdship Lickety Split (Mrs C & Mr M Mills), pretty bitch with that endearing Dandie expression! Good for breed type, lovely head and large dark eyes. Good neck and well made in front for the breed, correct topline but just a mite short in body for ideal. Sound and free on the move with well carried tail. BOB.

Jack Russell Terrier

Puppy

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0

1st) Tiltser Mint Velvet (Miss A Witmond), beautiful puppy that I edged marginally ahead of the 2nd on her profile action; notwithstanding, they are two most typical Jacks, each boasting an expression that befits their sex, both have very good shapes and outlines standing and moving and are a credit to their owners and the breed. Both in super muscle and the peak of fitness even despite of their relatively young age, and both in super nick. I could easily imagine both carrying titles and no doubt they are going to have very good careers.

2nd Place) Laserna Captain Crash (Mr A & Mrs L Jones), see 1st.

Post Graduate

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0

1st) Tiltser Cherry Blossom (Mrs S & Mr D Hart), very nice overall make and shape, good balance and outline, correct head and eye, super front and well made throughout. Not quite the hind action of the two puppies and so paid the price but another nice one, put down in first class order.

Parson Russell Terrier

Best Of Breed Fetedesmeres Pennsylvania (Miss E Hobbs), just the one present in spite of the decent entry & he was quite a typical and decent chap. Nice head and eye, good forehand and correct shoulders with decent return of upperarm. Well bodied and fairly sound on the move from all directions. Could do with a little more muscle throughout.

Scottish Terrier

Best of Breed Millingford Bluebell (Mrs A & Mr J & Ms D Kenny-Marriott & Marriott & Wilcock), stood alone but a really nice one to judge. Great head and eye, well set ears and whilst there was strength to her head, she did not lose her femininity. Good neck and shoulders, very well bodied and in good muscle. Moved with ease and accuracy and very well presented.

TG1 – Border Terrier

TG2 – Jack Russell Terrier

TG3 – Dandie Dinmont Terrier

TG4 – Bedlington Terrier.

TPG1 – Border Terrier

TPG2 – Jack Russell Terrier

A.V. Junior Stakes

1st) Olphae Governor, Breed: Otterhound (Mrs S Lewis), lovely Otterhound, just right for the breed. Excellent head and eye, good nosepad and excellent ear leathers with good length. Well made in front, super feet & excellent body and topline. In smashing muscle tone and used his stern well. Couldn’t pass him by for a good win here.

2nd) Winsleywood Witchcraft, Breed: Retriever (Labrador) (Ms A Scutcher), liked this Labrador and she gave Governor a run for his money. Lovely shape and size, very good expression and lovely dark eyes. Well bodied and great ribs, firm topline and she stands on good legs and feet. Excellent tail and super jacket. Went well & well deserved her place here.

3rd) Winflash Tom Ford, Breed: Dalmatian (Mr I, Mrs K & Miss C-L Page)

Otterhound

Post Graduate

1st) Olphae Governor (Mrs S Lewis), lovely young hound with a lot going for him, see AV Junior Stakes critique. Ch quality for sure & big winning ahead of him. Very nice to have three generations to judge on the same day. RBOB.

2nd) Olphae Ember (Mrs S & Mrs C Lewis & Wheatley), a very nice bitch, good head and eye, excellent expression and good leathers; firm topline and good quarters, free and easy on the move but had a hard task to match the excellent accuracy of Governor.

Open

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0

1st) Ch Olphae Charman** (Mrs S Lewis), sire of Dawn and grandsire of Governor, a really lovely hound with a lot going for him. Super head and eye, excellent forehand and topline, in peak muscle condition and presented to perfection. Very free and easy moving, with that typical Otterhound gait. Lots to like, a lovely chap. BOB.

2nd) Olphae Dawn * (Mrs C & Miss D Harris), daughter of Charman and mother of Governor, lovely hound, not quite so confident as Charman but when she got into her stride she went with an effortless action. Stands on great legs and feet & carries her stern well.
