Crystal Palace Canine Association

Breed: Hound Breeds and Group

Crystal Palace Canine Association – 13th April 2025

Hound Group

1st) Boggia and Graham’s Greyhound Rubicon’s Songbird by Boughton (IMP USA), very upstanding bitch who presents a good balanced outline both standing and moving. I admired her head, length of neck & front assembly; well laid shoulder and good return of upperarm, firm topline and neat underline, excellent hindquarters full of muscle and she moved with great freedom and ease on good legs and feet. In first class order with so much to like, should have a good summer, HG1 and later RBIS under Dr James.

2nd) Thornton-Margett’s Beagle, Julemark Primrose Avec Maplelayne JW, see breed.

3rd) Holder & Boggia’s Whippet, Boughton Begonia, see breed.

4th) Jarczynska Eastell’s Borzoi Ch Diamond Magnus Borzoj (IMP POL), see AVNSC.

Hound Puppy Group

1st) Phillps’ Miniature Longhaired Dachshund, Summerview Midnight Sky, lovely puppy, beautiful head and expression, very shapely and good to go over; in first class coat and condition and moves with great ease and freedom; can just firm up a touch behind but she has plenty of time and is very, very promising. See I gave her father his first CC. She is very like him.

2nd) Peek’s Miniature Wirehaired Dachshund, Milkwood’s May Ze; lovely puppy, so promising for type and outline, very houndy in expression, good neck and shoulders, firm topline and well-made quarters. Young yet and learning the craft, but lots of promise. I also gave her father a CC!

3rd) Whitton’s Beagle, Alibor Gensis of Haggatty, see breed.

4th) Lahood’s Whippet, Starceylon Spectre, see breed.

Beagle

Puppy (1, 0)

1st) Whitton’s Alibor Genesis of Haggatty, very smart puppy of 11 months, good head and eye, correct expression; well laid shoulders and good topline, held his shape on the move and carried his stern well. Very promising. BP.

Junior (3, 0)

1st) Giles-Wyatt’s Clarismore Crown Prince, good head and eye, correct expression, well made in front and behind and kept his shape on the move. Well-presented and handled. Shows a lot of promise.

2nd) Thornton and Thornton-Margett’s Maplelayne Look It’s Barbara (AI), very smart bitch who I thought would be the winner on first glance as she is very nice; everything is in the right place and she shows a lot of promise, a tad longer than the winner and not so settled on the day; but one for the future.

3rd) Whitton’s Alibor Genesis of Haggaty

Postgraduate (3, 0)

1st) Giles-Wyatt’s Clarismore Crown Prince, see junior.

2nd) Thornton and Thornton-Margett’s Maplelayne Look It’s Barbara (AI), see junior.

3rd) Brownlow’s Rushwater Violet Sky (AI).

Open (2, 0)

1st) Thornton and Thornton-Margett’s Julemark Primrose at Maplelayne JW, lots to like about this lovely bitch who projects herself very well. Excellent head and eye, good forehand and depth to her chest, firm topline and doesn’t need to be any longer in back; stern set and carried well and used herself very well on the move. BOB & G2.

2nd) Whitton’s Haggatty Calisto JW, another smart one turned out in the finest condition. Liked her head and eye, well made in body and good quarters; stood on good legs and feet and used herself well on the move, if not with the freedom of the winner.

Afghan Hound

Junior (2, 0)

1st) Turner, Boydell and Hutton’s Nightwind You’re My Kind of Crazy, presents a good outline both standing and moving. Correct head and eye, well made in front and fairly good depth to her chest, in good muscle tone and condition; she looked good on the move, and this is where she took the class.

2nd) Hirst’s Ayoubkhan Snow Cloud, I thought this one might be the winner on first glance as I really liked her shape and outline. Good to go over and lots to like, correct head and expression, firm topline and she is well made throughout. Not quite the freedom or accuracy as the winner on the move on the day, I thought.

Open (5, 0) Not an easy class to assess.

1st) Boydell’s Nightwind You Can’t Stop The Beat, 8 years old and a little heavier than some, but not impeding his outline or shape on the move. Very shapely, sound and free on the move and I liked him a lot.

2nd) Hills and Thornton’s Absolute Afghans Djibouti at Karnak JW (IMP NOR) another lovely hound, quite different to the winner but very eyecatching and striking. Good head and eye; very well-made body and sound on the move.

Irish Wolfhound

Junior (2, 1)

1st) Pateman’s Hydebeck Endless Love Glydas, very smart hound; good head and eye, correct expression and ears well set. Good to go over, all of a piece and is free and sound on the move, with good hind action.

Open (2, 0)

1st) Wilkinson’s Rainster Eilex Among Hunacres, good head and eye, correct strength to head, firm quarters and a free, easy and accurate mover. Put down in first class order and in great condition throughout.

2nd) Addington’s Wolfhouse Herbie Hancock of Wolvebrigg (IMP DNK), I thought this one would be the winner on first glance as there is so much to like about him, liked his head and eye and he is a sound mover, just not quite putting it all in on the day. Lovely hound though.

Whippet

Puppy (5, 0)

1st) Griffith’s Pelyma Certainly Snazzy, and she is – lots to like about this puppy, good head and eye, ears okay & her forequarters are good; holds her shape on the move and goes so well. Could open up a little more but she is young yet and gaining in confidence. Most promising I thought.

2nd) Smith’s Collooney Jim Beam, close up to the winner and will change places often, very smart hound, shapely and holds his outline standing and moving. Liked his head and expression, clean lines but just thought the winner put that tiny bit more in on the day when moving.

Junior (5, 1)

1st) Boggia’s Boughton Buddleia, a really lovely bitch presenting a super shape and outline both standing and moving. Correct head and eye, good expression and well made in front, firm topline and neat underline; lots to like about her on the move too where she goes with such a free and easy stride. BOB and G3.

2nd) Naunton and Robinson’s Starceylon Under The Sea at Trenzalore; quite a different make and shape to the winner but nonetheless a lovely type. Goes so well, free and easy, if not quite as accurate in footfall as the winner.

Postgraduate (11, 3)

1st) Earnshaw’s Palmik I Know What I Like at Moonshadow JW, very smart hound, good head and eye, correct expression and well angulated at both ends; firm and accurate on the move.

2nd) Smith’s Collooney Fred Astaire (AI), lovely shape and type, a little different to the winner in outline but lots to like. Very good to go over, free and easy on the move and quite close up to the winner on the day; but not quite the length of stride in profile.

Open (6, 2)

1st) Longhurst’s Abbeyhurst Dancing Queen, 1 and 2 here both very nice, Dancing Queen just put that little more in on the move; two nice hounds with good heads, very expressive; lots to like in terms of body and condition and both moved with freedom and ease.

AVNSC Hound

Puppy (3, 1)

1st) Jarczynska Eastell’s Bajadera Doozy, a nice Borzoi who is very much at the legs and wings stage. A little forward in shoulder and can firm in front, but otherwise a nice type and moves well in profile, if a little restricted in front. Well presented.

2nd) Wilson’s Delsaux Happy Ever After, generally a decent S/L but carrying far too much weight today. With some of this gone she would have a nice outline and be a little fitter on the move. Very nice otherwise.

Junior (1, 0)

1st) Jarczynska Eastell’s Bajadera Doozy, repeat of puppy.

Post Graduate (5, 4)

1st) Allchorne’s Nelgus Lucky Charm, lovely Basset Hound with the shape and makings of a good one. Nice to go over with a lot to lucky, sound and free on the move but does just need to gain a little in confidence to go even further.

Open (6, 2)

1st) Jarczyska Eastell’s Ch Diamond Magnus Borzoj (IMP POL), super Borzoi, liked his head and eye, firm topline and quite balanced both ends. Presented in first class order and so sound and free on the move, lovely; BOB & G4.

2nd) Allchorne’s Nelgus Thyme Flies, loved this Basset Hound dog too, such a typical, correct and functional hound with so much to like. Excellent head and eye, good skin if perhaps a little looser than ideal on parts of his body, but overall a very nice, free moving and perfectly presented hound.

AV Imported Breed Register Hound

Postgraduate (1, 0)

1st) Searl’s Stoneparton Bron, beauty Azawakh who really was something to go over and study on the move. Much to admire, lovely head type and well made in body, sound and accurate on the move & went with a very considered action. BIR.

AV Hound Veteran (12, 2)

1st) Gray’s Ch Jisgard Daydream Believer VW, I could not believe this bitch was 12 – she looks still capable of winning CCs! Every inch a champion Basenji, so lovely to go over, sound and free moving and looks about 3 years old. One I will remember – lovely.

2nd) Shepherd’s Ch Citycroft Sundae with Ozana JW ShCM ShCEX VW, lovely Whippet and one I have judged before, so it was lovely to see him again. Sound and free moving and not looking his age at all. Another lovely one.
