North of England HPR Club Open Show 24th August 2025

Sincerest thanks to the committee of this friendly show for inviting me to judge, and for their hospitality throughout the day. I also extend my thanks to my fabulous steward, Susan, for keeping the ring in order so well and the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs under me and accepting decisions so graciously.

Hungarian Vizsla

Puppy Dog/Bitch 1, 0

1st – Tyson’s Layways Tambourine Man. The most delightful 8mth boy, full of mischief just as a puppy should be. Though he was difficult to assess due to his determination to have a jolly good time, I managed to see and feel enough to conclude that this young chap is full of quality. He has a handsome, noble head which is still developing but should finish very nicely. Correct skull to muzzle proportions and desired square finish, well set V shape ears, moderately long clean neck leading into well laid shoulders. Good front assembly, correct forearm and pasterns over good feet. Held his topline well for age, well ribbed, good angles fore and aft, moved well. BP & RBOB.

Open Dog 1, 0

1st – Sharrocks Visash Hunor. 2 yo all male who is new to showing, sympathetically handled. This lad was very unsettled and difficult to assess. Presented in very fit condition but I would like a little more of him. He has a masculine head with all of the desired breed attributes, correct ear, strong well-muscled neck, high withers, well sprung ribs, slight tuck up and good second thigh. Could do with tighter feet. Moved out well.

Open Bitch 4, 0

1st – Aynsley’s Vizash Heiress of Caorunn. 2 yo bitch, litter sister to winner of OD. Stunning head with everything the breed calls for; muzzle, eyes, ears, skull all correct. Long clean neck into well laid shoulders, prominent breastbone, deep chest, tight elbows, straight foreleg, correct pasterns and the best of feet. Good body proportions, well ribbed, short level back, slight tuck up, well-muscled second thigh. Beautiful russet coat. Moderate hind angles allowing her to cover the ground effortlessly, best mover of the day. BOB

2nd – McCormack’s Sh Ch Roughshoot Onboard. 5 years old, lighter but still correct colour, heavier set and slightly shorter cast than 1. Lovely head, eye and ears, muscular neck, well laid shoulders, deep chest, straight foreleg and correct upright pasterns. Good feet. Good ribbing, short level back, well developed thigh with moderate hind angulation and well let down hocks. Moved well.
