Breed: Pomeranian

South Western Toy Dog Club 16th March 2025 – Pomeranian Critiques

Judge – Emily Moores (Chibaya)

I would like to begin by thanking the South Western Toy Dog Club for the invitation to judge Pomeranians for what was my first appointment in the breed. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for their entries and for allowing me to go over and assess their dogs, with my extended thanks to my wonderful steward who ensured the smooth running of the ring.

Overall, I was pleased with the quality of exhibits and am happy to report that I found no open fontanelles. All the exhibits were presented well and while the ring was small, the exhibitors made good use of the space we had to showcase their dogs to the best of their ability. While bad mouths are common in the breed, I was slightly disappointed with the condition of the mouths in this entry. As breeders, this is something that we need to continue to improve in the breed.

PUPPY (6,0)

1st – Super Glamur Gabriella (Imp UKR) NAF TAF (Mrs L Johnson)

9 month old orange bitch of excellent quality. A stand out for me in this class for her beautiful overall type. Pretty head with dark medium sized eyes, well-set small ears carried high and perfectly erect. Short neck leading into nicely laid back shoulders. Short back, good length of leg and stood on tight cat-like feet. Body well covered in correct double coat, albeit slightly lacking in undercoat today, however I forgave this given her age. High set tail covered in an impressive plume. Moved straight in front and behind and shows off her angulation well in profile. Well presented. Pleased to award her BPIB.

2nd – Baromar Dark Knight (Mrs Z Baigent)

9 month old black dog. Lovely dark medium, oval eye. Slightly larger ear however still creates a foxy expression. Well-barrelled ribcage leading into short coupling. Tail set high and covered in a nice plume. Straight moving in front and pleasing angulation in profile. Good size however wouldn’t want him any bigger. Carries a thick double coat covering the whole body and stands on tight cat-like feet. Would prefer slightly more trimming in front to help enhance his shape.

3rd – Divinity’s Azurite (Miss E Phillips)

JUNIOR (4,0)

1st – Amardica Firefly Of Dreams (Miss L Johnson)

14 month old orange sable bitch of good size with lots to admire. She really scores in type and I particularly liked her head. Beautiful dark medium eye, excellent pigment and small well set ears creating the most captivating foxy expression. Good depth of chest and well barrelled rib cage leading into a level topline which she held on the move. A fraction longer in loin, however this doesn’t spoil her overall shape. The best mover of the day, moving straight in front and behind and so very well angulated. Stands four square every time, with straight hocks. Thick double coat, with a straight tail set on high and covered in a plume that create a fan over her back and reaches her ears. Well trimmed and handled. Pushed hard for BOB in the challenge, and I was very pleased to award her RBOB.

2nd – Rostellars Super Sconic (Mr R Niven-Lewis)

13 month old orange dog whom is another quality exhibit in this class, so compact and true to type. Masculine in expression but not at all coarse. Medium, dark eyes set correct distance apart and tiny ears carried erect and set high, blending into his impressive rough. Well ribbed up and the shortest coupling, with the perfect length of leg. Correct double coat, standing off from the body. Straight tail, set high, covered in a plume reaching his ears. Moves well in profile, just preferred the movement of 1 when coming and going. Well presented.

3rd – Bincombefarm’s The Kneazle (Mrs K, Mr N & Miss K P French)

POST GRADUATE (3,0)

1st – Norvanik Gold Charm (Miss E Phillips)

2 year old orange sable dog. Foxy head and expression, slightly lacking in sweetness but the overall type is there. Medium oval eye and dark pigment. Would prefer slightly smaller ears but they are still set high and erect. Good depth of chest and barrelled rib cage. Short back and level topline which he holds on the move. In full, double coat of correct texture. Tail set high and covered in an impressive plume. On the top end for size, but won this class on his sound, excellent movement – a pleasure to watch.

2nd – Reubicia Topaz At Pawsamy (Miss A Lovell)

14 month old orange bitch. Foxy head and expression, a fraction longer in muzzle. Another with ears ever so slightly too large, but still set high and used to advantage. Pigment slightly lacking on nose but this can be expected given the dreary winter weather. Well barrelled ribs and level topline. Tight cat-like feet. Correct double coat however a bit out of coat today. Slightly longer in frame than preferred. Well angulated front and rear and she shows this off on the move.

3rd – Rostellars Super Scassy (Mr R Niven-Lewis)

LIMIT (2,0)

1st – Mariajon’s Dare Devil (Mrs W M & Mr A Jones)

16 month old orange sable dog. Nice wedge-shaped head and sweet expression. Dark medium eyes and good pigment. Ears set a little low, but this doesn’t spoil the expression too much. Really liked this boy for his compact shape. Short back with level topline and short coupling. Good length of leg, standing on very nice, tight, cat-like feet. He was a little anxious so started dropping his tail towards the end of the class but he did show his well-set tail off for the most part and this enhanced his overall shape.

2nd – Pawsamy’s Rose JW (Miss A Lovell)

2 year old orange sable bitch of good size. Slightly rounder eye, ears set high and erect. Not quite the compactness of 1. Short neck set well into good forequarters. Moves well in front and shows off her angulation in profile. Well-coated however would prefer it to be slightly harsher.

OPEN (3,0)

1st – CH Norvanik Gold Smith at Bincombefarm JW (Mrs K, Mr N & Miss K P French)

2 year old orange dog. Perfect size, ultra compact and full of quality. Well balanced head, foxy in outline and expression. Pleasing dark, medium, oval eyes and tiny ears set high, and nicely hidden in his rough. Excellent pigment. Short neck, set into well laid back shoulders giving him fabulous front action. Super compact with short back and level top-line accompanied by the shortest of couplings. Good length of leg, making him square and well proportioned. Standing on neat, cat-like feet and straight hocks. Straight tail, set high and another with a delightful plume reaching his ears and spread like a fan over his back. Moves very well in front and shows his reach and drive in profile. I noticed he has a slight tendency to tiptoe behind, however this doesn’t detract too much from his overall movement. In full coat with a softer undercoat and harsh outer coat, standing off from the body. Always stands four square and he creates a beautiful overall picture making him very pleasing to look at. Presented in immaculate condition and handled to advantage. Very happy to award BOB

2nd – See 1st Limit - Mariajon’s Dare Devil (Mrs W M & Mr A Jones)

3rd – Pawsamy’s Sweet William JW (Miss A Lovell)
