Best In Show

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge Best in Show at the Bridlington & District Canine Society open show, to the exhibitors who entered under me and to my fellow judges on the panel for sending through quality group winners. I had a lovely day and am very pleased with my overall winners.

After careful consideration, I awarded Best In Show to the Border Terrier McPherson Ch Brumberhill Bit O’Blarney JW, this dog oozes quality, he has a beautiful head, moderately broad in skull with a short muzzle, dark eye with a keen expression, neck of moderate length, deep body, ribs carried well back, small feet, coat of correct harsh texture, tail set high, displayed lovely movement in both profile and front and back. Reserve Best In Show I awarded to the young English Springer Spaniel Calvert Elazlan Elle For Leather, this bitch is only really starting her career at 12 months old and has so much more to come as she matures, she has a feminine head with correct proportions, almond shaped dark eye, lobular ears of good length, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, straight forelegs, deep chest, balanced angulation front and rear, tail set low, and moved with an easy free stride.

When it came to Best Puppy In Show, I have to admit that I was very taken by the winner of my Hound puppy group the Dachshund (Miniature Smooth) Teckletowns Power of Love so she was the one to beat, I kept an open mind when judging but I just kept coming back to her and ultimately awarded her Best Puppy In Show. This black and tan 6 month old bitch shows so much promise, I loved her shape and balanced body proportions, dark eye, scissor bite, well rounded high set ears, good length of neck into shoulder, prominent breastbone with correctly placed forelegs, balanced angulation, straight and parallel hind legs, sound on the move showing a free action. Reserve Best In Show went to the Samoyed Collinson Vandreem Imperial Mario At Norjak, this upstanding male is well balanced all through, has that ‘smiling expression’, the required head shape with good pigmentation, erect ears, strong and arched neck into well laid shoulder, balanced angulation, back of medium length, deep chest with well sprung ribs, straight legs, long feet with feathering, profusely coated tail which was carried over his back, he demonstrated free movement.

Breed Judging

Unfortunately, the ring that I was given for breed judging was small and slippy so it was very difficult to assess movement other than a down and back which was only a few steps. This, of course, did affect placings.

Collie (Rough)

Graduate (1)

1. Whitaker Siluto Silvary Blue Moon, 3 year old blue merle bitch, correct head and body proportions, sweet expression, small ears, moderate neck into shoulder, balanced angulation, long tail but held high on the move which could have been due to the ring surface. BOB

1. Whitaker Siluto Blueberry Mist JW, 3 year old blue merle bitch, nice shape, lovely head and ears, moderate amount of neck into shoulder, unfortunately was not moving true which is why she lost out to her kennel mate for BOB.

2. Savage Peblu Gold Reflection at Savatarus JCH, the ring was not for this 8 year old male, which I don’t blame him, he did not want to move. In the stack, he presented a nice picture, good head and medium size eye, moderate length of neck, balanced angulation, would prefer a more parallel rear.

Utility Group

I awarded Best In Group to the Shar Pei Wyldette Lilith Never Eye who pulled out all the stops, pushing the Shar Pei hard was the Shih Tzu Ch Ustoppable Alpiu Slenis to Jaxtzu JW ShCEx OSW (imp Ltu) who I gave Group 2, Group 3 went to the Shiba Inu Burwen Becalm Blue and the Poodle (miniature) Group 4 Holsyi’s Titan In Ice.

The Utility Puppy Group went to the German Spitz Mittle Tispitza’s Damned by Rumour with Nosregor, puppy group 2 to the Poodle (standard) Larune Break The Spell and Group 3 to the French Bulldog Aldhammills Checkmate for Oschalben.

BOB.

2. Thornton Norboo Ya Gotta Have Faith, gold bitch, very close decision, some comments apply as the winner, she is just out of coat and condition at the moment, moved true.

BOB.

2. Skawska Mapimakastar Jasmin Jol Ja JW, gold and white feminine bitch, correct body proportions, pleasing head and dark eye, good neck into well laid shoulder, forelegs straight, deep chest, level back, tail heavily plumed, set on high, carried gaily over the back, sound on the move.

Rogerson Tispitza’s Damned by Rumour with Nosregor (German Spitz Mittle) 7 month old cream male, presented a beautiful shape on the stack, good head with dark oval eye, small triangular ears set on high, clean neck into well laid shoulder, straight forelegs, balanced angulation, level topline, well boned, small round feet, high set tail, curling on the back. RBAVNSC and BPAVNSC.

2. Davies Kimetsu Ayuki Kori Go At Kasaishiro (Japanese Akita Inu), bitch, triangular shaped head, broad skull, well developed cheeks, almond shaped eye, triangular ears slightly hooded, moderate length of neck, deep chest, level back, well boned, the ring wasn’t the best to assess movement but she was throwing a foot out when she did.

1. Pettit Rogspa’s Got Yer Back (Tibetan Terrier), male with balanced body proportions, attractive head well furnished, moderate length of neck into shoulder, moderate balanced angulations, correct coat texture, level topline, moved true. BAVNSC.

2. Brook Middanwinter Trojan Horse (Kooikerhondje), male, presented a well balanced shape, dark almond eye with black rims, alert expression, moderate length of neck into well laid shoulder, straight forelegs, level back, correct body proportions, well sprung ribs small feet, didn’t move his best unfortunately.

Hound Group

I was really pleased with the quality of dogs within the hound group and thank you to my fellow hound judge John Stokes for sending through some lovely examples of their breed. My eyes kept being drawn to the Dachshund (Standard Wire) and Dachshund (Miniature Smooth), both dogs of top quality, I eventually awarded the group to the Std Wire McPherson & Patterson Brumberhill Beryl, she presented a nice picture of the stand, good head appearing conical from above, ridges over eyes strongly prominent, correct bite, almond shaped dark eye, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, prominent breastbone with foreleg covering the lowest point of the keel, balanced angulation front and rear, sufficient ground clearance, moved true. Group 2 and I found out later on when I checked my catalogue was Mason Teckeltown The Show Girl who I had judged earlier this year and awarded the CC and BOB, my comments still apply from my critique then, both of these two bitches are quality. Group 3 went to my Best AVNSC Dachshund (Long-haired) Kindeace London’s Calling and Group 4 to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Nolan Priorpark Pearl of Wisdom For Rumialana JW, this bitch has a lovely head and eye, scissor bite, high set ears, fairly long length of neck, deep chest, balanced angulation, deep chest, strong loin, well defined ridge, good turn of stifle, compact well arched toes, low set tail strong at the root, moved true and free.

My Hound puppy group went to the Dachshund (Miniature Smooth) Teckletowns Power of Love, I eventually awarded her BPIS so have covered my critique there. Hound Group 2 was awarded to the Beagle Arden Madika Shine On JW, another really promising puppy, she has a nice head and dark eye, low set long ears, scissor bite, long neck into shoulder, balanced angulation, good substance, level topline, tail set on high, tight feet, true on the move with a free action. Puppy Group 3 was awarded to the Basenji Alchez Live For the Night and Puppy Group 4 to the Dachshund (Min Wire-haired) Wistex Perfect Storm, this male has a good head with dark almond eye, scissor bite, high set ears, good length of neck, prominent breastbone, balanced angulation, forelegs placed at lowest point of keel, just needs to drop at the rear but he is only young.

2. Paskins Cedavoch Its Taboo at Kindeace VW Dachshund (Long-haired), another veteran which shows the longevity of the breed, 8 year old male, this male has a nice head with a dark almond shaped eye, high set ears, good length of neck into shoulder, correctly placed forelegs, back level, balanced angulation, moved well.

McPherson & Paterson Antonius Vertagus The-Ngong-Hills (Imp Fra) (Deerhound), unfortunately the floor was not for this male at all, am just glad that he did not hurt himself as he slipped so much, saying that, he presented a nice shape on the stack, good head and dark eye with correct scissor bite, balanced proportions all through, ears set on high and folded back, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, forelegs straight, deep chest, good underline, loin well arched and dropping to the tail, great length from hip to hock.

From a visual outlook only, she has correct body proportions, nice head with medium sized eyes, ears set on low, moderate length of neck, balanced angulations, moved ok. Best AV Import register.

Phillips Shakina Cotton Candy (Rhodesian Ridgeback), this bitch presented a nice shape on the stack but decided that she had enough for the day, she has a good head, round eyes, high set ears, scissor bite, strong neck into shoulder, forelegs straight, deep chest, moderate balanced angulation, tail strong at the root.

Jordan & Davis Rowanpaws Royal Mint (French Bulldog), this male missed his breed class but am glad the owner stayed and bought him into the stakes class, he is very promising, he has a good head with dark round eye, well defined muzzle and stop, bat ears of medium size, moderate length of neck, moderate angulation, cobby in body, small compact feet, short tail, free flowing movement.
