Thank you to the committee of the Basset Hound Club of Wales for the invitation to judge at their Open Show. Your hospitality was most appreciated, and I had a wonderful day judging your stunning hounds

It was lovely to see such lovely sportsmanship; thank you for accepting my decisions with good grace. Many thanks to Julia for being my most efficient steward. The only negative comment is that there were a few hounds who would benefit from having their nails trimmed.

VETERAN DOG 3

1st Shadbolt Sedonia’s Ambassador To Akura Strongly built 8-year-old tri male, he had a lovely outline when stacked. Noble head of pleasing proportions, with clean bright eyes and long, well-set leathers. His strong, arched neck fits smoothly into a good front assembly. His back is broad with a good length of ribbing and level topline which he held on the move. Rear quarters have width with well bent stifles and low set hocks. He moved purposefully around the ring, with the final run around winning him BD. BV & RBIS

2nd Gwyer Kortebin Dwarf King Almost 11-years-old tri male, who has lost none of his qualities with age. Handsome, breed typical head, with lovely dark eyes and correctly placed leathers. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, he has prominent breastbone with a good depth of brisket. This distinguished gentleman has width to his rear quarters, but he is just losing a little strength in his hocks. He moved soundly around the ring and is a credit to his owners.

1st Beale Malrich Moonwalk Well developed and super confident 8-month-old red and white at his first show. Such an eye-catching youngster who is balanced in angulations fore and aft and has a super depth of chest. I loved his head which is elegantly domed. He has expressive dark eyes and a lovely Roman nose. This boy stands on large, well-padded feet and he is developing nicely in his hindquarters. He moved around the ring with a wonderful effortless action. A promising puppy and one to watch for the future. BP

1st Archer Roamanbay Reddy The Eagle Smart 13-month-old red blanket male. Masculine head of good planes, with dark eyes of good shape and velvety ears. He is ample boned and bodied; his ribcage has depth and extends well back. He is firm in topline and has plenty of ground clearance. He moved steadily around the ring using his strongly muscled rear quarters, I just wish he would use his tail more positively.

1st Beale Woferlow Victorzsasz Lots to like on this stylish 4-year-old tri male. His head is handsome and refined, with clean dark eyes and leathers of good length and texture. His strong, well arched neck flows smoothly into well angulated shoulders with correct return of upper arm. He has an excellent depth of chest with a nicely rounded ribcage and a strong, broad loin. Full and muscular rear quarters with short, parallel hocks. He moved soundly coming and going. RBD

2nd Bailey Longmynd Cedric Smartson By Bromp Sound and classic 4-year-old tri male, who was beautifully presented. Masculine, domed head with strength to his muzzle and lovely length of flews. He is nicely angulated fore and aft, with a strong level back and correct tail set. This boy stands on good bone with well-knuckled and nicely padded feet. He is in fabulous condition and moved with a lovely profile action.

1st Pearson Amazing White Story With A Tail at Armardio (Imp NLD) 6 ½ -month-old red and white, full of quality and promise. She is as pretty as a picture; I could have taken her home with me! Fabulous head with the sweetest of expressions, and lovely long lace ears. Strong neck flows smoothly into a nicely made front assembly. Her breastbone is prominent, with nicely rounded ribs that extend well back. Her long tail is set correctly and carried sabre fashioned on the move. At present she is just standing a little bum high. Another youngster who I will watch with interest.

1st Bailey Bromp Bigbutt Beryl at Longmynd 12-month-old red and white bitch of lovely proportions. She had a super temperament and enjoyed her time in the ring. Feminine, breed typical head with lovely depth to flews and large black nose. Her beautifully arched neck fits nicely into well positioned scapular. Her back is broad and well-muscled, with a level topline. There is plenty of ground clearance under this girl. Presented in super condition, she moved with free, and easy action. Nicely handled.

2nd Archer Roamanbay Reddy To Rock Well grown13-month-old red and white. Feminine head of good proportions, her ears are well set and nicely curled. Sturdy in body, her ribcage has depth and extends well back. Her rear is full and well-muscled with short, parallel hocks. Her movement was true on the out and back, but she wasn’t using her tail today.

2nd Palmer & Deter-Wyatt Dianicdan Ariel 15-month-old tri. Pretty head of nice proportions with soft expression and long leathers correctly set. She is a bit too short in body for my taste, and I would prefer her to have a greater depth of chest, which made her look unbalanced. Shown in smooth, short coat.

1st Pearson Armardio Candle In The Wind JW Impressive 2 ½ -year-old red blanket, this girl is both substantial and elegant in equal measures. I loved her attitude - she possesses a great joie de vivre. Beautiful head of good planes and prominent occiput. She is balanced in angulations front and rear. Her back is broad and is well-ribbed with a level topline and slightly arched, muscular loin. Shown in lovely coat and condition, she moved around the ring with plenty of scope. RBB

1st Pearson Armardio Wind Of Change JW Stunning 2 ½-year-old read blanket. She is full of quality and substance, and oozes breed type. I loved her noble, feminine head and her expression is stunning. Her strong, arched neck flows into a super front assembly. Her breastbone is prominent, she has a lovely depth of chest and plenty of infill. She stands on quality bone with large, tight feet. Her rear quarters are full and well-muscled. She excelled on the move with a smooth, powerful and precise action, she looks as if she could work all day in the field. I was delighted to award her BB & BIS

2nd Archer Roamanbay Rebellious Flame Well developed and balanced 5-year-old red and white. Dignified, feminine head with clean bright eyes and a lovely Roman nose. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders, her back is broad with short loin and width to her pelvis. There is plenty of ground clearance under this girl allowing her to be able move freely over all types of terrain. Her hindquarters are strongly muscled, which she used to her advantage to power around the ring. Stern set and carried correctly.
