Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this popular, well run open show. My two efficient stewards, Richard and Tracey helped to keep the ring running smoothly and worked tirelessly. I was delighted with my entry today. I had the privilege to judge some quality hounds who should have bright futures. One point to note, I found there were some hounds with questionable bites, and these reflected in their placements.
WHIPPETS
PUPPY 3 (1)
What a wonderful start to my day’s judging!
1st Howgate & Hull, Mr M & Ms Y Tervanty Dragon Song at Palmik Quality 7-month-old fawn bitch. An eye-catching, shapely puppy! Even at this young age, she has the desired combination of strength and elegance. Beautiful, feminine head with dark, oval eyes and pigmentation. Her neck is gracefully arched and flows into a super front assembly with correct return of upper arm, her elbows placed perfectly under her withers. She stands on quality bone, with slightly sloping pasterns and neat, well-arched feet. Good depth of chest with a lovely sweeping underline, and complimentary curvy topline. She came into her own on the move, with a long, daisy cutting stride and used her well-made quarters to her advantage. A top draw-puppy. RBOB, BP, PHG1 & BPIS
2nd Smith, Mrs C Cathmick Witches Brew Well grown 11-month-old fawn blue brindle bitch. Her skull is long and lean, with nicely rosed ears. Neck of good length into fair shoulders, straight forelegs and neat feet. Her back is nicely ribbed and broad, but she was a little steep in the croup which caused her to stand with her topline a little roached. Nicely handled.
JUNIOR 7 (2)
1st Howgate & Hull, Mr M & Ms Y Palmik Never Too Late Shapely and balanced 8-month-old fawn male. He is well-bodied and nicely constructed. His long, arched neck blends smoothly into a lovely front. He has depth to his brisket and plenty of infill for his age. Broad rear quarters with width to second thigh and low set parallel hocks. He maintained his topline on the move and was sound coming and going. Another puppy that should give his owners some fun in the ring.
2nd Baley, Mr I & Mrs L Ohoka Top Model at Hengilfach Pretty 12-month-old fawn with black mask bitch. Typical head with good length to muzzle and correct scissor bite. There is nothing exaggerated on this youngster with balanced angulations front and rear. She has a good depth of chest with a broad, well-muscled back. She looked a picture in profile, with her tail caried in a delicate curve.
POST GRADUATE 9 (2)
1ST Brodie & Owen, Miss Z & Miss E Wolfcastle Be Juled Curvy 19-month-old silver brindle bitch who was elegantly balanced. She stood naturally over a lot of ground. I loved her feminine head with dark, oval eyes and pigmentation. Her ears are beautifully rosed. Reachy neck into a well filled forechest with clean, well-positioned shoulders. Her back is broad and firmly muscled with a graceful arch over a strong loin. She looked wonderful in profile, and moved with a long, ground covering stride.
2nd Mulligan, Mr S S & Mrs T L Ashkyem Fisher Jazmyn Smart 2-year-old brindle and white bitch presented in super condition. Typical head with good length of muzzle and strength to underjaw. She stands on good bone with neat, well-padded feet. She is balanced in angulations fore and aft with good depth of brisket and plenty of forechest. She moved soundly around the ring, her long tail carried in a gentle curve.
OPEN 12 (7)
1ST Snelgrove, Mrs A E & Miss R C Palmik Carousel for Huntinghill JW Quality, 5-year-old fawn bitch in her prime. She just oozes breed type. She is spot on for size and nicely made with clean flowing lines all through. I loved her feminine head, with flat skull and the most super rosed ears. Her long, beautifully arched neck flows into well-constructed shoulders. Her chest is deep and capacious providing her with plenty of heart and lung room. She has a curvy underline with her ribs carried well back and a graceful arch over an athletic loin. Presented in good, hard condition, she was accurate in her footfall. BOB & HG3
2nd Brodie & Owen, Miss Z & Miss E Wolfcastle Crown Jules Upstanding 19-month-old fawn and white male, with lots to appreciate. Lovely, breed typical masculine head, with super oval eyes and dark pigmentation. His strong neck flows into a well-positioned scapular with flat muscles. Forelegs are straight and with slightly sloping pasterns and good feet. I loved his rear, that was powerful and well-muscled with low set, parallel hocks. He moved positively at all times. I considered him for top honours.
