Lichfield Canine Society

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this popular Premier Open Show. It was such a disappointment that the bad weather resulted in there being so many absentees. Thankfully, the committee produced a wonderful show. Thank you to my steward Doug, for helping the ring run smoothly and then Joyce and Jean when I was the replacement judge for Borzois. Most of all, thank you to the exhibits for the pleasure of judging your wonderful hounds.

GREYHOUNDS

JUNIOR 3 (2)

1st James, Mrs E & Miss I Sobers Jannik Sinner (Imp Ita) Promising 7-month-old mostly white and brindle male. He is strongly built and nicely made all through, standing on quality bone with neat, tight feet. Masculine head with strength to his muzzle and lovely chiselling detail to his foreface. He has a good reach of neck that blends smoothly into a lovely front assembly, with correct return of upper arm, this enabled his elbows to be placed perfectly under his withers. He has super depth of chest with plenty of infill for his age. His rear quarters are broad with width to his second thigh and parallel hocks. He is just learning the ropes and moved steadily around the ring. I will watch his progress with interest. BOB & BPIB, HPG4

POST GRADUATE 4 (3)

1st Mallen-Wallace, Mrs N A Kellsboro Sasha Substantial almost 8-years-old white and black bitch. Pretty, feminine head with a sweet expression, her ears are nicely rosed. Her muscular neck fits nicely into a well-proportioned body. She has a lovely curvy underline, with good length of ribbing and a strong loin. Positive in her movement, though just a little close in rear. She is a credit to her owner.

OPEN 3 (1)

1st Mallen-Wallace, Mrs N A Droopys Tavern Mature 8-year-old white and brindle male presented in tip top condition. Well proportioned, handsome head with dark, oval eyes and a good ear placement. He is nicely balanced with moderate angulation both front and rear. His chest is deep and well-ribbed, with a broad and powerful loin. Rear quarters are well-muscled with strong, low set hocks. Sound in his movement, he enjoyed his time in the ring. RBOB

2nd Prince & Ballentine, Miss H & Mr G Westview Puddles Shapely, 6-year-old red brindle bitch, presented in good coat and excellent muscular condition. She is built on a small frame and finely made all through. Pretty, feminine head with the softest of expressions and beautifully rosed ears. Balanced front and rear angulations with straight forelegs and neat, well-knuckled feet. She has a curvy underline and shapely topline, though I would prefer more depth of chest. She looked lovely in profile, but just a little untidy coming towards. Well handled.

SALUKI

PUPPY 2 (1)

1st Bryla, Miss A Ravensett La Duquesa Lots to appreciate in this 7-month-old red bitch, who is still wearing her puppy coat. She is shapely in outline and moved with a sound, light flowing gait. Attractive in head, both in shape and proportions, with dark oval eyes and well-placed ears that are starting to get their fringes. She has a reachy neck that fits smoothly into a nicely made front assembly, her forelegs are straight and long with slightly sloping pasterns and correct feet. Balanced in rear, with moderated bend of stifle and low set hocks. She just lost out on maturity, a promising puppy. BP

JUNIOR 2 (2)

POST GRADUATE 2 (1)

1st Harrison, Miss C Zafaraniyeh Sahari Strongly made 18-month-old black and tan male. When he stood naturally, he presented a pleasing outline. Lean and balanced head which is framed by well-set ears that are beautiful fringed. Long, muscular neck flows into a decent shoulder placement with good depth of brisket and infill. His back is well-ribbed, with a strong and muscular loin. He is well developed in his rear, but he is just a tad too long in his second thigh. Sound on the out and back. RBOB

OPEN 7 (6)

1st Harrison, Miss C Khamsin’s Phoenix At Charrioak Elegant and refined 3-year-old smooth tri colour, strongly built with width all through. Masculine, breed typical head that is long and narrow, with strong underjaw and correct dentition. Long, strong neck into a fair front assembly, his chest is deep with a well-ribbed back and broad loin. I liked his sweeping underline and gentle arch over his loin. His tail was set and carried correctly. He looked lovely going around the ring, although he was just slightly loose coming towards. BOB

BORZOI

PUPPY 3 (2)

1st Dawson, Mr A, Mr N & Mrs E Stubbylee at Sunrise Shapely 7-month-old self red, she is well developed in bone and body. Lots to like about this girl, she is a lovely puppy full of quality and type. Feminine head of good length with detailed veining to her foreface. Great depth of brisket and infill for her age. She is nicely angulated in her rear with width to her second thigh and low set hocks. She moved soundly and confidently, her long, well-feathered tail carried low. This girl should have a bright future. BP

JUNIOR

1st Tomkinson, Mr D Rosskaja Jim Beam Tall and handsome13-month-old red, who was immaculately presented. He has a large frame, which he just now needs to spend his time to mature and develop into. Well-proportioned, masculine head with dark eyes and pigmentation, Roman nose and strong dentition. He has a good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, though I would just prefer more depth to his chest. Fair width to his rear with broad, strong hocks. His movement was light and effortless, with his long tail carried in a graceful curve. Nicely handled.

OPEN 4 (2)

1st Dawson, Mr A, Mr N & Mrs E Ch Stubbylee Mood Indigo What a quality, aristocratic 5-year-old white and red bitch! She had everything that I was looking for in a coursing hound. I loved her beautiful, feminine head that just oozes breed type. Her long, slightly arched neck flows seamlessly into a well-angulated front assembly, straight forelegs with slightly sloping pasterns and neat, well-arched oval feet. She has a super depth of brisket giving her plenty of heart and lung room, which would enable her to do the job she was bred for. Her movement was easy and graceful, showing reach and drive. Beautifully presented in a smooth, silky coat. BOB

2nd Turner, Mrs F J Chalksville Katerina 4-year-old white and sable bitch presented in good firm condition. I liked her shape and balance- there is nothing overdone on this hound. Her long, muscular neck flows into a clean, well-laid scapula. Her back is broad and nicely ribbed, with a sweeping underline that compliments her curvy topline. She moved true in all directions, but she was just lacking drive from her well-muscled rear. RBOB
