Coventry & District Gundog Society – Irish Red & White Setters – 07.12.25

My apologies for the lateness of this critique – unfortunately one of my parents was diagnosed with cancer and we have been in a whirlwind of tests, an operation and ongoing treatment. My thanks to Coventry & District Gundog Society for this invitation – my first in this breed. Also thanks to my stewards for their time and assistance.

Class: 30 Junior (1,0)

1st 109 O’Kelly & Hancock’s Coolfin The Ecstasy of Gold at Caradilis 16mth old bitch – Head is in good proportion to their body. Muzzle square and clean would like a little more length. Correct set of ears. Moderate length of neck – slightly arched. Shoulders well laid back. Ribs starting to spring. Adequate bone. Angulation front and rear is ok. Well set on tail. Deep red solid patches on a good white base. Moved ok.

1st 105 Bloxham’s Alanea Emerald – 18 mth old bitch – Just missing the Junior class by one day. This young lady was not helping her handler today and did not show at her best because of this. Head proportions were ok and has a moderate length of neck. Level back, good depth to chest and good spring of rib. Ticking throughout the base coat with solid patches of good red colour. Bone ok moved ok.

Class: 32 Open (4,1)

Strong class with 3 excellent examples of the breed making it a difficult one as each one could easily take 1st place and I am grateful that their owners gave me the honour of being able to go over them today.

1st 106 & BOB - McDonalds’ ShCh Roanjora Cremant D’Alsace JW 2yrs 5mth old bitch – Quality bitch Feminine head with a good length of muzzle which is clean and fairly square. Prominent stop and head is of good proportion. Good shape to dark hazel eyes. Ears set well back and on a level with the eyes. Slightly arched neck leads to well laid shoulders of good length. Good length of upper arm and correct front angulation, level back leading to well set on tail of correct length. Well sprung ribs and good depth of chest. Possibly a little longer that 2 in the body. Good rear angulation and strong rear quarters. Good bone. Moved well. Excellent coat and condition

2nd & RBOB - 104 Barney’s Romaunt Ain’t Misbehaving 3yr 7mth old bitch – Another quality bitch. Feminine head of good proportions. Gentle intelligent expression. Ears well set. Good length on neck leading to well laid shoulders. Deep chest & well sprung ribs. Good bone. Moved well in excellent coat, just a little heavy today but could change places with 1 on another day.

3rd 108 - McDonald, Westwood & Westwood’s 108 Roanjora Creman De Savoie Avec Eusanit JW – Lovely quality boy. Very eye catching, litter brother to my BOB and many qualities of the BOB just not moving as well as the other 2 today.
