J (2,1)

1. Dodd & Struthers-Lake’s Elfrindew Yankee Doodle. A 13 month old dog who appealed greatly in outline, he is almost square and has balanced angulation. Loved his masculine head with nothing overdone, correct planes and flews. His head has a lot of work with a pronounced occiput and a slight stop. Good length of ear and moderately short well muscled neck, which flowed into correct shoulders, he also has a good return of upper arm. Correct topline which he held on the move. He has such fabulous extension and drive, showing his correct angulation. He is still a young lad and needs time to fill his frame, but the best is yet to come. BOB and delighted he was BIS4.

1. Warburton’s Owlspoint Loads Of Trouble at Heberhouse JW. 2 ½ year old dog of good type with a square outline and balanced angulation. Good masculine, and lean head, of correct proportions and correct length of ear. Good depth of chest and ribs well sprung. Correct neck into a good layback of shoulder and he has a good topline. Well muscled rear and good bend of stifle. He moved well but not the extension of the JD today. RBOB.

2. Dodd & Hayes’s Bushwacker Dolly Daydream. 4 year old bitch who is the dam of my BOB. She has a pleasing square outline, and a beautiful head of correct proportions with divergent planes and chiselling. Lovely front assembly with a good layback of shoulder and length to her upper arm. She moved out well with good extension.

GORDON SETTER

P (2) Two very raw puppies and both giving their handlers a hard time, making it difficult to assess them. There were merits that I preferred on both.

1. Bednarska’s Hartenziel Laderach. 6 month old dog once settled on the stack I could see a pleasing outline but at this stage very raw and up on his legs. He has depth to his head and in muzzle but not broad, clearly defined stop and low set ears. He had a good front assembly with correct layback of shoulder and return of upper arm. I preferred the topline of 2. He moved ok and was more co-ordinated than 2 today. BPIB.

2. Crowther’s Ronaldsbill Mystical Fire. 9 month old bitch, again still very raw and up on her legs, and needs time to fill her frame. She did make a pleasing outline once stacked and she has a level topline. She was rather upright in her front angulation, but preferred her rear angulation to 1, as she was long from hip to hock and short from hock to the ground. She moved ok but not as co-ordinated as 1 today.

1. Collins-Pitman’s Amscot She’s No Angel. 14 month old bitch of excellent type with a lovely outline and so balanced. Beautiful feminine head with correct proportions, depth and chiselling, a clearly defined stop and a dark intelligent eye. Correct set and length of ear. Long neck that flows into well laid back shoulders and into an excellent level topline that runs straight through to the tailset. Good return of upper arm, showing a good forechest and depth to brisket. She has correct rear angulation being long from hip to hock and short from hock to ground, with well bent stifles. She didn’t move as well today after being spooked by something in the venue but couldn’t deny her BOB for her overall correct type.

1. Speed’s Ronaldsbill Magic Stars of Niannster. 2 ½ year old bitch with a lovely feminine head of correct proportions with correct stop and depth to flew. She didn’t have the neck or head carriage of my BOB. Correct front angulation and well let down elbows, with a nice forechest and depth to ribs. Moderate length of body and a level topline, but has a slight slope to the croup. She moved well around the ring. RBOB.

1. Mahon-Hunns, Middleton & Haskin’s Susquidilla Yankee Shadow (IMP USA). 8 month old dog who has a very nice outline and correct topline. He has a lovely masculine head with a broad and round skull. Excellent front angulation with a well laid back shoulder blade and corresponding return of upper arm, enabling his legs to be well under his body. Lovely bone and feet. Excellent coat. He moved very well around the ring. BPIB.

1. Boyles’s Sh Ch Pixiesrock Mr Tumnus by Bleyos JW. 3 year old dog of a good type with a correct balanced outline and well muscled. Lovely masculine head with correct broad and round skull, medium stop and thin lips. Correct eye placement and colour giving a kind expression. Strong neck flows into well placed shoulders and a good return of upper arm, with legs well under body. Deep chest and good spring of rib. Correct topline. Effortless movement holding his outline well. BOB and delighted he was BIS3.

2. Rigby’s Sh Ch Chesepi Waco. 7 year old dog who is correct in outline and balanced, with lovely correct front angulation and matching rear angulation with a good width of second thigh. Lovely head of correct proportions with width to skull and high set ears. Correct in topline. Excellent bone and feet. He was a bit softer over all in body and heavy over the shoulders today and not in his best coat.

AV SPECIAL VETERAN STAKES DOG (4,1)

1. Holehan’s Loganrish Let’s Go Crazy. 7 year old Irish Setter, liked him for his balanced outline with correct topline. Lovely long and lean head, muscular neck into well placed shoulders. Correct angulation fore and aft. Moved out true on a good stride around the ring and up and down. BVIS.

2. Jakin’s Sh Ch/Int Sh Ch/Multi Ch Terne Des Coris Qalimero at Coolfin (IMP BEL) JW. 7 year old IRWS, another with a balanced outline. Well proportioned head with a good depth of muzzle, kind expression and correct ear. Moved ok but just preferred the movement of 1 today.

3. Rigby’s Sh Ch Chesepi Waco.

AV SPECIAL VETERAN STAKES BITCH (7,3)

1. Byrne’s Sh Ch Aldozovolgyi-Drotos Nyuzsgo at Enyrb JW (IMP HUN). 8 year old HWV of a lovely type. Medium sized with a balanced outline and is so well muscled. Correctly proportioned head, lovely clean neck into a good layback of shoulder which flows into a level topline. She moved very well. RBVIS.

2. Copeland’s Sh Ch Gunalt Wondrous of Stridview (AI) JW. 7 year old Weimaraner. Classic outline being longer than she is tall, good head and body proportions, level topline. Balanced angulation. She moved out well.

3. Turton’s Tanglebrook Goldfinch.

AV MINOR PUPPY STAKES (13,5)

1. Brown & Filby’s Desjiem Rebel Rebel (AI). 8 month old beautiful GSP bitch who has a clean balanced outline, with good head and body proportions. Such a feminine head and good eye colour. Balanced angulation fore and aft, correct topline and she moved very well.

2. Reid’s Diersett Moon Of The Skies. 8 month old English Setter bitch and another lovely girl. Liked her for her clean outline and correct level topline. Correct head proportions and good depth to muzzle but still so feminine. She has good angulation fore and aft, and moved out on a good stride.

3. Byrne’s Enryb Purple People Eater.

AV JUNIOR STAKES (13,6)

1. Buckles’s Brazenbeacon Artemis. 16 month old Golden Retriever bitch. Her lovely outline caught my eye in this class, with level topline. So well balanced with excellent front angulation enabling her legs to be well under her body, and matching rear angulation. She has a kind expression and correctly proportioned head. She moved true from all angles.

2. Samria’s Winterwell The Card Player (AI). 12 ½ month old GSP dog. Beautiful well proportioned head, with lots of work in it. Good depth to muzzle and correct high set ears. Slight arch to neck which flows into a good layback of shoulder. Short in back but standing over plenty of ground. He is so well muscled all over and has a good width to second thigh. Moved well.

3. Kassube & French’s Cararua Spring Pearl.

AV CHAMPION STAKES (8,3)

1. Isherwood’s Sh Ch Gunalt Schweppes at Caleydene JW. Rising 4 year old Weimaraner dog of the correct medium size, moderate and balanced throughout. He has good head and body proportions, clean neck into well placed shoulders and a level topline. Well handled and he moved true and effortlessly around the ring.

2. Byrne’s Sh Ch Aldozovolgyi-Drotos Nyuzsgo at Enyrb JW (IMP HUN). See 1 in AV Veteran Stakes Bitch.

3. Copeland’s Sh Ch Gunalt Wondrous of Stridview (AI) JW. See 2 in AV Veteran Stakes Bitch.

AV OPEN STAKES (10,5)

1. Duncan’s Diggmere Tiger Swallowtail JW ShCEX OSW. Rising 4 year old Italian Spinone dog, and one I have judged before when he was younger, and he has certainly fulfilled his early promise. He is such a lovely type, a well balanced strong and square dog, with correct head proportions and divergent planes. Excellent front assembly, correct in topline and true on the move from any angle.

2. Brown & Filby’s Sh Ch Winterwell Thatlldo for Desjiem JW. 5 year old GSP bitch. Loved her balanced and moderate outline. Beautiful expression and dark eye, well proportioned head with depth to her flew, clean cut neck into well laid back shoulder and a good return of upper arm. Short in back and correct topline. Good bend of stifle and width to second thigh. She moved lovely around the ring.

3. Dummett & Vikhrova’s Nova Story Boogie Woogie (IMP MNE) JW.
