Breed: Siberian Husky
I was elated to be invited back to Boston DCS to judge in the incredibly well-prepared grass rings, whilst the sunny weather was for the most part on our side, a couple of classes were hindered by the sudden downpour, where the marquee was very much appreciated. So, a big thank you to the committee for the invitation and a superb setup and a very smoothly ran show.
The entry was of a very generous number for an Open show, so a big thank you to all those that entered and supported the breed classes at Boston DCS. I very much enjoyed the day, I was spoilt for choice amongst the classes and on any other day exhibitors could have changed places. On the whole most were expectedly out of coat and a tone of muscle was factored in given the time of year, leeway was applied across the board.
Whilst the breed is offering a high level of quality, there were a few things that detracted from the merits of the exhibits;
Pasterns, too much slope and very nearly on all occasions coupled with turning out. Whilst a small degree is tolerable with immaturity, it was sad to see this proliferate into some adults. Hocks, whilst on the whole most were of good length and well let down, it was disappointing to see the Hind structure being spoilt which such a varying degree of cow hocks, presented both on the free stand and post convergence, a far cry from the parallel and straight carriage expected.
These features would hinder any dog in its ‘original’ purpose and environment as a sled dog. That being said the breed presented well with scissor dentition and on the whole the weights of the dog were respective with only a couple of exhibits falling outside of the desired condition.

1st Furnesfjorden’s First Ragnar for Inneska (IMP NOR), Mr J & Mrs D McInnes
Just a week shy of 1 year old, this Black and White Male is a dog I have watched from ringside and was excited to get hands on and he did not disappoint. Keen expression, correct eyes, ears and skull. Pleasing length of neck, well laid shoulder, excellent angulation and good feet. Adequate ribcage depth and spring of rib for age. Balanced through fore and aft. His length of stride showed his topline being held confidently and level with excellent reach and drive. A youngster I will watch with interest as he matures.
