Critique

Thank you to the Cambuslang Committee for inviting myself and my partner to judge at your open show. As always the hospitality in Scotland was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

AVNSC Hound

Open (4 entries, 1 absent)

1st. Balfour’s Clentry Mango Passion ShCEX (Smooth Haired Dachshund). Red bitch with super head and eye shape giving rash expression, lovely strong neck going into an excellent front with good prominent sternum and excellent feet. Well ribbed up with balanced length of loin and sufficient ground clearance. Nice strong hindquarters which she used well on the move, being very sound and typical. A quality example, happy to award Best AVNSC Hound and Hound Group 4.

2nd. Wilson’s Red Crimson (Miniature Long Haired Dachshund). Young bitch who scores well in head, front and feet. Good sternum and holds her topline well giving overall a balanced outline. Moved generally well, just needs to strengthen in rear movement as still slightly loose.

3rd. Simpson’s Zxylasahlaam Gea’rr VW (Saluki)

Hound Group

Group 1: Legget’s Ch Swanwite Take a Chance on Me ShCEx (Basenji). Quality male basenji giving lovely square outline, balanced head proportions and a strong crested neck. Excellent front with good lay of shoulders and high set tail with good shelf. Lovely coat texture and in great condition. Out moved everything in the group today with super profile action giving the free-swinging gait the breed requires. Delighted to award him the hound group in todays entry.

Group 2: Mulholland and Cunningham’s Wlamadengie Heart Throb (Rhodesian Ridgeback). Quality male with noble head and good expression. Excellent front and feet and overall balance. Lovely sound movement with free houndy action and presented in excellent condition.

Group 3: Dollan’s Scotach Just Chillin (Borzoi). Quality male with fine chiselled head, good strong neck and excellent outline, with good rise over the loin and strong hindquarters. Lovely coat and condition and another who moved well.

Group 4: Balfour’s Clentry Mango Passion ShCEX (Smooth Haired Dachshund)

AV Hound Puppy (12 entries, 4 absent)

1st. Fallon’s Molesend Jackpot (Beagle). Lemon and White Dog with a super head and kind expression, lovely ears and nice wide nostrils. Excellent length of neck going into well laid shoulders with an excellent front, good round bone and nice feet. Good length of rib with strong compact loin and well set on stern. Lovely strong balanced hindquarters and a super sound mover. Quality puppy.

2nd. Forrester’s Hyndsight Like Never Before at Finix (Deerhound). Another quality pup and unlucky to meet the winner today. Feminine 9 month old bitch with super head and eye shape. Good length of neck going into a good fron with nice bladed bone and good feet. Nice depth of chest for age with plenty of room for development and lovely topline with a gentle rise over the loin going into balanced moderate hindquarters. Super light and typical movement, especially in profile.

3rd. Brown’s Vysaris Baccus Dieu Du Vin (Basset Griffon Vendeen Petit)

AV Hound Veteran (8 entries, 3 absent)

1st. Smith’s Lorbri Mistletoe Magic (Whippet). Brindle with lovely feminine head and expression, nice length of neck going into a good front with ok feet. Good depth of chest with nice top and under lines giving gentle rise over the loin. Balanced moderate hindquarters, unexaggerated, and giving a typical, sound movement. Lovely condition for her age.

2nd. Scanlon’s Kinabula’s All About the Bass Jw ShCEx OSW (Rhodesian Ridgeback). Bitch with a lovely head and expression, super strong neck and front and excellent feet and muscle tone. Would like her slightly longer in body as a bit compact for the breed, which resulted in slightly short choppy action today, however sound movement in general.

3rd. Burton’s Cornstalk Parti Girl (Whippet)

Shetland Sheepdog

Junior (5 entries, 4 absent)

1st. Mettan-Ure’s Savendie Meleys. Tri Colour bitch of nice type with a feminine head and good eye shape. Nice length of neck going into a good front with excellent feet. Good length of rib with balanced hindquarters and good tail. Moved away nicely, a touch springy in profile but plenty to like.

Graduate (6 entries, 4 absent)

1st. Saunders Leterikhills River Star over Torriglen JW. 19 month old sable with the better head of the two in this class. Lovely eye shape and good ears. Nice length of neck going into a good enough front and lovely feet. Excellent coat texture with good length of rib and strong moderate hindquarters. Better mover of the two. A sound typey bitch with lots to like.

2nd. Shaw’s Bluequarry the One and Only. 3 year old sable with a nice enough head although a touch more stop than I’d like. OK ears and eye shape and a good enough front. Feet a touch longer than I’d like. Well ribbed up with good coat texture and acceptable hindquarters. Not happy in the hall today and didn’t move as well as the winner.

1st. Shaw’s Bramblecroft Reeba at Bluequarry. Sable bitch with a good head and lovely eye shape and ears. Best front in this class with good feet and super coat. Balanced body and well spring rib with good hindquarters and very sound on the move. Overall a good example of the breed and happy to award Best of breed in this entry.

2nd. Reekie’s Ellenyorn Elixer. Sheltie of lovely type with a super head and eye shape. Not as good in front as the winner but OK feet and nice length of rib with good coat texture and condition. Moved OK.

3rd. Saunders’ Galateus Bohemia Classic at Torriglen (Imp Cze)

Australian Shepherd

Graduate (5 entries, 2 absent)

1st. Simpson’s Lamintone for the Drive at Applecreek. Tri Colour with a super head and eye shape and lovely ears. Excellent front and feet going into a good length of rib and nice strong loin and hindquarters. Bob tailed. Lovely balanced free and easy movement. A quality example of the breed.

2nd. Heggie’s Talard It Wasn’t Me. Another quality example with super head and expression and good ears. Excellent front and feet and good depth of chest and strong loin and hindquarters. Overall a good mover although not quite as together as the winner.

3rd. Bogle’s Shepwood White Rose

Open (3 entries)

1st. Pugh, MacKenzie and McTaggart’s Northbay Xsells Can’t B’Leaf My I’s. Blue Merle of super type and quality. Lovely head and eye shape, nice strong neck going into an excellent front with very good feet. Good depth of chest with well sprung ribs and strong loin. Strong balanced hindquarters and excellent coat and condition. Super mover being free and easy and very sound. Happy to award Best of Breed and Group 3 in today’s entry.

2nd. Heggie’s Winstead a Brave New World Ir Jun Ch (Imp Rumania). Typey bitch with lovely head and expression and another with a very good front. Lovely feet and super depth of chest with well sprung ribs and nice strong loin. Well-muscled and in lovely condition. Not quite the extension of the winner on the move but still very sound.

3rd. Heggie’s Talard Welcome to the Jungle

Bearded Collie

A quality entry of this breed.

1st. Robertson’s Quothquan Aylyth Super puppy bitch with lovely head proportions, nice square muzzle and super strong nek. Excellent front with well laid shoulders and good bone and feet. Nice length of rib with balanced hindquarters. Good puppy coat. Very together on the move for her age and one I really liked. An easy winner of this class.

2nd. Savage and McLean Strufingill Penny Benjamin at Canaich. Bitch of good breed type with super head and front. Good feet and enough depth of chest. Good coat texture and moved well. Lots to like.

3rd. Johnston’s Corimist Glimer of Rye

1st. Handley’s Bargemon Brigadoon at Barkenbear JW ShCEx OSW. Quality four year old male with super head proportions, lovely square muzzle with balanced skull going into a strong neck of good length and excellent front and feet. Lovely length of rib with strong loin and excellent coat texture. Balanced strong rear with low hocks and plenty of daylight underneath. Lovely mover being free and purposeful, could work all day. I really liked this dog and was delighted to award him Best of Breed and Pastoral Group 2 in a quality group.

2nd. Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Looney Tunes. Another quality exhibit with super head and strong skull. Excellent length of neck and front and feet and good length of rib with excellent topline, held well on the move. A touch longer in body than 1st place and not quite the freedom of action in movement, however overall plenty to like and a close decision between the two.

3rd. Savage’s Talraz Comic Relief at Canaich JW VW

Welsh Corgi (Pembroke)

1st. Manson’s Calwinii’s Aqua Bloom JW. 22 month old with lovely breed type. Super foxy head and expression, lovely ears and overall, a nice compact outline. Excellent front and feet with lovely length of rib and nice short loin and strong hindquarters. Super sound mover. Happy to award Best of Breed.

2nd. Crichton’s Cherastayne Real Quiet. 9 month old with a super head and eye shape and excellent front and feet. Lovely length of rib with balanced hindquarters and overall a lovely mover.

3rd. Pike’s Unita Mentale Hollywood Paul at Eivisah (Imp Ukr)

Border Collie

Graduate (4 entries, 1 absent)

1st. Leslie’s Tonkory Spring in your Step among Windwalker. Quality 11 month old puppy of super breed type. Beautiful feminne head and lovely eye shape. Excellent neck going into well laid shoulders and balanced return of upper arm. Super bone and feet. Good length of rib going into a balanced moderate rear with blalance sloping croup. Super muscle for age and lovely typical smooth mover. Delighted to award her best of breed and Group 4 in todays entry.

2nd. Walker’s Ravenskirk Pretty in Pink. Typey workmanlike collie with good head and eye shape. Not as good in front as the winner but overall good body proportions and balanced hindquarters. Moved well.

3rd. Walker’s Ravenskirk Brown Eyed Girl

1st. Heggie’s Locheil A Good Heart Ir Jun Ch CJW23. Lovely bitch of good type with a feminne head and lovely eye shape and expression. Excellent length of neck going into a super front with well laid shoulders and balanced return of upper arm. Lovely balanced outline overall with goof length of rib balanced hindquarters and in super condition. Another free and typical mover and close decisions between her and the puppy for Best of breed.

2nd. Walker’s Miraje Just Because at Ravenskirk. Handsom male with a masculine head of good proportions, nice strong neck and good enough front. Nice length of rib with balanced hindquarters and solid muscle tone. Moved well enough but not as good in front as the winner.

German Shepherd Dog

1st. Gibson’s Droyales Forever Proper at Echosands. Handsome male who stood alone today with lovely head proportions, nice muzzle to skull with parallel planes and excellent ears. Good strong neck with well laid shoulders and balanced upper arm. Good feet and well ribbed up with strong well angulated hindquarters. Still needs to mature and movement yet to settle properly but a young dog with plenty to like.

Finnish Lapphund

Three lovely examples of the breed.

1st. Meikle and Henderson’s Elbreth Etiainen at Lintukoto. Top quality male with superb head and expression, lovely oval eyes and ears of good size and shape. Excellent neck going into a super front and feet. Moderate spring of rib with excellent topline and short strong loin. Excellent tail set and balanced strong, well-muscled hindquarters. Excellent coat texture and condition throughout and a lovely typical mover being sound and effortless. This male really caught my eye and I was delighted to award him best of breed in today’s entry and for him to top a lovely pastoral group. I shall watch his career with interest.

2nd. Clark’s Aateli Koira Vakker Yuna at Lumernico (Imp fra). Feminne bitch puppy with lovely head and eye shape and nice ears. Excellent front and feet and good body proportions with nice strong loin and good tail. Lovely mover, especially in profile.

3rd. Proctor’s Alkantara Talvi Hamara with Cathbri

Collie (Rough)

Graduate (5 entries, 4 absent)

1st. Mitchell and Jordan’s Aaronwell Another Dream for Avonfair. 6 month old tri colour with a nice head and sweet expression and good ears. Good length of neck and good front and feet. Nice length of rib and OK hindquarters, still need to strengthen. Moved soundly enough when settled but not quite together on the move. Better performance than their kennel mate today which tipped them for best of breed.

1st. Mitchell and Jordan’s Avonfair Aloysius JW. Sable dog, aged 18 months with an OK head and ears, a bit to much stop for me. Good enough front and feet and nice length of rib. Moved OK, not really happy in the hall today.

AVNSC Pastoral

Graduate (3 entries)

1st. Maclellan and Isherwood’s Debruix Miss Marple (Belgian Shepherd Dog Groenendael). Beautiful head, super wedge shaped with excellent ears and lovely expression. Excellent front and feet and good depth of chest with balanced hindquarters giving a nice square outline. Lovely free and easy movement. Nothing exaggerated and super breed type. Presented and handled in excellent condition for her age. Delighted to award her Best AV Pastoral Puppy and Best AV Puppy in Show.

2nd. Duffy’s Vittador Jean Lyons (Lancashire Heeler). Heller of lovely type with super head and eye shape, excellent front and feet/ Well spring ribs of good length and balanced strong hindquarters. Well set tail, carried correctly on the move, sound and workmanlike throughout. Lots to like.

3rd. Scott-May Croftdouglas Dileas Anam (Samoyed)

1st. Steel’s Fostebrie Schmitten Noir (Briard). Quality black Briard with good strong head proportions, good length of neck going into a well made front. Nice feet, well sprung ribs of good length and good topline, held well on the move. Strong well muscled hindquarters with double dew claws evident. Nice harsh dry coat of good length. Lovely mover, especially in profile. Best AVNSC Pastoral and Best AV Pastoral Veteran.

Reserve Best Special Puppy in Show: McCluskey’s Tiltser Voulez Vous avec Chadbrook (Jack Russel Terrier). Super male puppy with lovely head, excellent front and super feet. Lovely length of neck going into well sprung ribs and strong short loin with balanced strong hindquarters. Super jacket and super mover. Great attitude in the ring. Loved him and close decision between him and the Belgian for BPIS.

Best Special Veteran in Show: Torbett’s Kirlinjis Made You Look JW ShCM (Cocker Spaniel). Quality Cocker with super head, nice square muzzle and excellent ears of good length. Lovely strong neck going into an excellent front with lovely well sprung ribs and compact body. Super strong hindquarters and shown in super coat and condition. Excellent mover in all directions, Delighted to award BVIS.

Reserve Best Special Veteran in Show: Pringle’s Ch Esgia First and Fairest (Skye Terrier). Skye of excellent breed type being long and low with super coat texture ann strong powerful head with excellent ears. Excellent front and feet, super topline which he held on the move and balanced strong hindquarters. Lovely sound mover. RBVIS.

1st. McCluskey’s Tiltser Voulez Vous avec Chadbrook (Jack Russel Terrier)

2nd. Hogg’s Gailech Wirnpa (Gordon Setter). Quality Gordon puppy who was unlucky to meet the winner. Lovely noble head and expression with excellent length of neck, super front and feet and balanced hindquarters. Still needs to drop in chest but exactly where he should be in a slow maturing breed.

3rd. Coughtrie, Hendry and Paterson’s Jazpiper I am Maximus (Tibetan Spaniel)

1st. Miller’s Cafotaliena Heart of a Hero (Gordon Setter). 16 month old Gordon Setter with super masculine head and excellent expression. Lovely front with good shoulders and nice forechest. Good feet and enough depth of chest for age. Balanced strong hindquarters and super coat and condition. Moved well.

2nd. Prazak Dickson’s Kaallana Jawska Seraphina (Great Dane)14 month old Great Dane with a superb head and eye shape, excellent strong neck going into a super front with plenty of bone. Good length of rib with balanced hindquarters and moved soundly throughout.

1st. Mair’s Glenauld The Chase (Boxer). Red and White male with super masculine head, lovely clean eye and good muzzle to skull proportions. Nice strong neck of good length going into an excellent front with good forechest and nice spring of rib. Balanced square outline with good short loin and strong well angulated hindquarters. Lovely sound mover, especially in profile.
