Afghan Hound
Open (2 entries, 1 absent)
1st. Hills and Thornton’s Absolute Afghans Djibouti at Karnak JW ShCEx OSW (Imp Nor). 5-year-old Black Masked Gold male who I have judged before. Lovely breed type with good houndy head, long skull and strong punishing jaws with good expression. Nice length of neck although a touch upright in shoulder. Lovely square outline with good depth of chest strong short loin and low set ring tail. Well angulated rear with good feet and overall presented in lovely coat and condition. Moved well enough although would like to see a bit more extension in front and spring. Overall, a hound of good type with lots of positive qualities. Stood alone today but happy to award best of breed.
Rhodesian Ridgeback
Puppy (2 entries)
1st. Nevison’s Bikquest Envy Blazingstar. 11-month-old bitch with super feminine head and lovely expression. Well laid shoulders with balanced return of upper arm and good bone and feet. Good ridge, coat texture and condition although wouldn’t want her any darker. Balanced moderate hindquarters which she used well on the move being sound and free in all directions. There is nothing exaggerated about this youngster, and she is very together on the move. Delighted to award her best puppy and Hound Puppy Group 1.
2nd. Nevison’s Biquest Helios Sunreacher. Litter brother to winner and very similar in type. Super masculine head although a touch more flew than his sister. Lovely eye shape and expression though and going into a strong neck with a good front and plenty of bone. Still needs to drop into his chest and mature into his frame as not quite as together on the move as his sister, but overall, a masculine hound in super condition for his age.
Post Graduate (6 entries, 2 absent)
1st. Lo Nigro, Rice and Rice’s Nuthouse Shall We Dance. Feminine bitch of lovely breed type with good head and eye shape, strong neck and very good front. Well laid shoulders with balanced return of upper arm, sufficient bone and very good feet. Well ribbed up with enough depth of chest for her age as still a young bitch and has some maturing to do. Good ridge, coat texture and condition. Balanced moderate hindquarters and super movement today. Despite her lack of maturity, I felt she offered the most balanced in todays entry and was delighted to award her Best of Breed.
2nd. Maidment’s Amahle Wolfric the Wanderer. Young male with a good head and shape and nice front and feet. Good depth of chest and overall condition. A touch more angulation at the rear than I’d like which meant he wasn’t as balanced on the move as the winner, however a promising young hound with plenty to like.
3rd. Nevison’s Bikquest Sunshine Ember
Limit (3 entries, 1 absent)
1st. Maidment’s Amahle Behave Yourself. Feminine bitch with lovely head and expression, strong neck and a good front and feet. Balanced return of upper arm and good bone. Nice depth of chest with strong loin and balanced unexaggerated hindquarters. Lovely condition. Moved well but not quite as free as the post grad winner today. Reserve best of breed.
2nd. Geeve’s Kiromol Knight of the Realm. Masculine male who is perhaps a bit heavier in head than I’d like. Nice eye shape however and good strong neck. Front was a touch wide however has good feet and a balanced back end. Moved Ok but not as good in front as the winner.
AVNSC Hound
A really lovely entry of hounds of all shapes and sizes.
Puppy (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st. Leech’s Mochras Mahlord Rupert (Basset Fauve de Bretagne). 11-month-old Fauve male who I felt was the most together of these three puppies. Good houndy head with nice eye shape, domed skull and well-set ears. Good enough front for age although would not want any more crook and may improve as he matures. Well sprung ribs of decent length and balanced hindquarters with good bend of stifle. I wouldn’t want him any taller than he is as top end of standard. Moved well enough today to win this class and best AVNSC Hound Puppy and Puppy Group 4.
2nd. Neasby’s Erinshore Red Robin for Ulani (Mini Long-Haired Dachshund). 7-month-old male with super head and rash expression, good front with well laid shoulders, good forechest and nice feet. Good topline with balanced hindquarters and overall good coat. Would like a touch more ground clearance for preference. Moved well but still very immature in comparison to the fauve.
3rd. Lander’s Songbirdie in the Thistle (Mini Long-Haired Dachshund)
Post Graduate (13 entries, 5 absent)
1st. Lewis’s Olphae Governor (Otterhound). Lovely young otterhound male with super head piece, majestic expression and good ears and nose. Super front with well laid shoulders, plenty of bone and very good feet. Good depth of chest with more to come and excellent coat texture and condition. Balanced hindquarters and super mover with a lovely loose stride. A promising hound who I will look out for in the future as has lots of excellent breed points and a very sound mover. Lacked the maturity of the open winner but very happy to award Reserve Best AVNSC.
2nd. Strong’s Xerxes Omar Ter Dolen (Imp Bel) (Saluki). Shaded red male Saluki of lovely type with elegant head and expression and a very good front and feet. Nice depth of chest with balanced moderate hindquarters. Lovely flowing movement, especially in profile and super type.
3rd. Threadgold’s Laakso Katja (Norwegian Elkhound)
Limit (3 entries, 1 absent)
1st. Townsend’s Overbeck’s Esme Shelby at Roxastan (PBGV). Lovely breed type with a super head and expression, good underjaw and lovely ears. Good enough front and feet with good depth of chest and enough sternum and balanced hindquarters. Lovely coat texture and overall good condition. Moved well enough to win this class although would have liked a little more drive at the rear.
2nd. Church’s Chriskim’s Golden Ticket at Floxie (Mini Long-Haired Dachshund). Unplaced in previous class and not so happy on the move, this gold bitch has a feminine head with good front and feet and a good topline. Lovely coat texture and overall condition, just not happy in the hall today.
Open (8 entries, 3 absent)
1st. Stratton’s Lux Ch Justatee This is Me JW CJW25 Ir/Bel/Nld/DT(VDH)/Luk Jun Ch (Basenji). 2-year-old Basenji bitch who has a typical head with balanced muzzle to skull proportions, lovely almond eye and nice small, hooded ears with good wrinkle. Super crested neck going into a good front with shoulders well laid, nice fine bone and good feet. Very good coat texture with pliant skin and good depth of chest with short strong loin. Lovely tail set with good shelf behind and nice curl. Balanced moderate hindquarters. Perhaps a touch longer in body than ideal but overall balanced and I’ll make an allowance for a bitch. It’s always a challenge judging a breed you own in variety classes as I think you are often harder on them however, I think this is the best I have seen this bitch move with a lovely free, swinging stride, sound up and back and super head carriage and aristocratic air. She is not the style of Basenji I own however has many positive breed specific points and, on her performance, today was an easy winner in this quality entry of AVNSC, taking Best AVNSC hound. I was delighted to award her hound group 2 today as well behind a quality mini smooth dachshund.
2nd. McLoughlin’s Amenediels Eyes on the Prize with Zantescwtch (Bavarian Mountain Hound). Quality Bavarian bitch of super breed type and style. Loved her head and expression, with super colour and markings and excellent front. Balanced hindquarters and a super mover holding her topline as specific to the breed. Just lacked the maturity of the Basenji and Otterhound in the challenges but probably the best example of this breed I have judged to date. I shall watch her career with interest.
3rd. Chapman-Reith and West’s Hayvenhund Hunky dory (Smooth Haired Dacshund)
AV Imported Register Hound
Open (1 entry)
1st. Searle’s Stonemartin Bron (Azawakh). Another I have judged before who didn’t move as well as last time. Lovely type with good overall outline, head and expression. Moderately angulated front with balanced hindquarters and presented in lean condition with good coat texture. Moved OK but not as happy in this sports hall than when I judged her last time. Best AV Imported Register Hound.
AV Hound Veteran (16 entries, 7 Absent)
1st. Rose’s Pennydach Mystique at Rosencrantz (Mini Smooth Haired Dacshund). Quality black and tan mini smooth dachshund with super breed type and proportions. Lovely conical head with super almond eye, correct ears and rash expression. Excellent front with well laid shoulders. Good prominent sternum and excellent feet. Super topline with balanced length of rib to loin proportions, very slight rise over the loin flowing into a correctly set tail with balanced well-muscled hindquarters. Super sound mover with plenty of ground clearance, holding her topline on the move. Real attitude on the move with super carriage and breed type. I judged her as a puppy, and she has more than filled her potential. Delighted to award her Best Hound Veteran and Hound Group 1 as she had also taken best of breed.
2nd. Lewis’s Ch Olphae Charman** (Otterhound). Another quality hound at the other end of the size scale, a beautiful champion otterhound male with majestic head and expression, full of substance and quality, excellent front and feet and super deep chest, Excellent rough coat presented in super condition with balanced hindquarters and another excellent mover. Another I have judged before and a quality example of his breed.
3rd. Leithhart’s Ringmore Hecate (Whippet)
Finnish Lapphund

1st. Jarvi’s Elbereth Nuka. 10 month old male with a super masculine head, short muzzle and medium sized ears well set. Lovely eye shape and expression. Super tail and excellent coat and condition for age. Promising young male with loads to like. Best Puppy in Breed.
2nd. Birks’ Samite Taiga of Sotka (Imp Est). 6 month old feminine bitch with a lovely head and expression and good ears. Good enough front but still immature in comparison to the winner. Balanced hindquarters and overall, nicely proportioned with good tail and moving well.

1st. Fowler’s Whinfoss Kesanlehvisto at Lapinruska (AI). Bitch with feminine head and good eye shape with nice ears. Lovely front and feet with good spring of rib and well-set tail. Good coat and condition and the better mover of the two in this class with the puppy being a bit more unsettled/

Excellent front with moderate lay of shoulder, balanced return of upper arm and very good feet.
